I ended up increasing my pledge, which I think might be a first for me, 'cause that Study of Gliese sounds really cool

Glare Seethe posted:This does look really nice, but it's just the slightest bit over my 'insta-back' threshold. I feel cheap as gently caress saying that but my finances are trash and I wish the base tier was just a couple of bucks lower. I might still do it if the campaign needs me, though. Actually maybe it'd be better to back now and cancel if the campaign doesn't need me, just to help get its momentum going, but then I'll feel like an rear end in a top hat canceling a pledge. Don't feel bad about being frugal, there's definitely been a lot of neat projects that I haven't been in a good place to pledge either. Just bad timing I do hope some bigger outlet like RockPaperShotgun gives it some coverage though, since it's moving pretty slowly Or should the Kickstarter fall through, that the developer is still able to find a way to work on it. It's a really charming visual and it's always nice to see more Australian games https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_lyPc9fiac

RockPaperShotgun posted an article showing off Tala, talking all about the dev and the project ....a day after the Kickstarter fell through by ~3k For goodness' sake The dev says they're not giving up or anything so I'm glad that we might see more of the game eventually but man it's a bummer

I feel like people are being weirdly obtuse over something pretty obvious... 'narrative adventure' isn't some inscrutable or new genre https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBkQ_7ssZC0 Fangz posted:Stuff like this sound like a poorly thought out game mechanic. More games should experiment with characters being dishonest in various degrees imo

Sounds like it's going more for a narrative experience rather than exposed mechanical depth and they don't want to spoil anything, dunno what more you want

Wicked Them Beats posted:Reading their posts it sounds like they're shoving a grab-bag of mechanics in as "twists" but they don't want to cop to that so they're being coy. They're mentioning card games, puzzles, fights, people lying to you, and a bunch of other stuff that will only work if the mechanics are there to make it work. If by mentioning card games, you mean this part quote:Like a card game changing its rules along the way and adding a surprising mechanism to a unique moment. All this said, I'd love for them to put up a short demo or something to actually see what some encounters look like and if the writing matches the mood of the art/music

Sure, if it ends up being as simplistic as that in-game then that one trait would be kinda dumb

Even with well-thought-out budgeting and time management, working on a long term project with a team small enough that a bad cold could completely halt development is always going to hit pretty unique hurdles

I think you should just not back anything if the risk of troubled developments is too much for you. Just, don't spend anything more, financially or emotionally, on Kickstarters, if this is what it makes you think

Wha? Isn't that one of the few ways to actually substantially spread word about your project if you're an indie?
