Rumor is that the HTC EVO 3D is coming to virgin mobile... is it a good phone?

Ooo. Not sure if it's a good phone, but it made me stop and look twice. I wonder if it will get upgraded to ICS. Through, it's like an inch bigger than the Optimus V and I've grown to really like the small size.

HTC One V review. Seems like a nice step up from the Optimus V. I'm pretty interested in the phone, assuming the price is right ($250 or less) and it gets a decent community behind it for rooting. Personally, I like the <4" screen size...

Is there a decent T-Mobile phone out there (at least rootable and capable of running cm9 with decent xda support) that has an under 4" screen? I'm debating getting the One V on Virgin Mobile* versus something nicer on T-Mobile, but I don't know if I would want to carry around a phone with a 4.7" screen like the One X or Galaxy Nexus. I'm just curious if there's something good with a smaller screen out there than I'm not aware of.

*I have weird network issues whenever I'm in the Chicagoland area with my Optimus V. Sometimes the phone likes to lock up, sometimes the battery drains super fast, sometimes I can't hook onto mobile data. It all goes away when I'm back in Peoria.

My Optimus V always has weird issues in the Chicagoland area. Random reboots, or it slows to a crawl, or it fails to lock into the data networks. It's always something different and novel and goes away when I come back to Peoria. My sister and her husband always complain about their Sprint service up there (they have nicer Samsungs, not crappy free discount phones), mostly with crappy data services and mms taking hours to go through.

TMobile would cost about $5/month more (I use ~200 minutes/month), but buying a new phone also has to be factored in. And I kinda like the OV and not having to give a gently caress when I (ab)use it.

Looks like you save about $400 $500 ($1880 vs $1490 $1370) after two years getting the iPhone 4S on Virgin Mobile (with 300 minutes/month) instead of a post paid Sprint plan (with 450 minutes/month and roaming).

EDIT: It's $1120 getting the Google Nexus on the $30 TMobile prepaid plan (with 100 minutes/month) for two years.

EDIT: Updated the prices to reflect the $5/month discount with the auto-pay discount.

What would be the process of going from TMobile prepaid to StraightTalk TMobile? Just like switching companies (get SIM, create account, port number) or would you have to port your number to a 3rd carrier first?

TMobile prepaid seems slightly cheaper for me (I seem to be using between 150-200 minutes/month), but if keeping track of minutes gets too annoying or I start going over 250/month, I'd switch to StraightTalk.

1) That's how it works in theory. I bought the SIM kit, and attempted online activation. Should've been simple, the steps aren't difficult or anything, but for some reason the page would just refresh rather than proceed when I clicked to submit the info. Anyway, I called up T-Mobile and described the problem to the phone support guys, and still managed to get on the "online only" 5GB+100min+∞text plan (probably because it was a new activation - ported the old number to T-Mobile later, after comparing coverage).

This is a month old, but I tried activating online, got a bad activation code error, called up TMobile, and they activated the phone with the $30/month plan no problem. They butchered my last name, but I updated it myself on the website.

I was a bit surprised to find Web Guard turned on for my phone by default, though. I randomly saw it while playing with the account settings. Be sure to turn that off unless you hate porn!

If you are monthly, then Verizon ought to refund the portion of the month you haven't used (eg. if you're one week in, they should be giving you 3/4 of your monthly bill back).

Is there a known problem with the My T-Mobile site for pre-paid plans? I tried to login, couldn't remember my password, did the password reset, waited 20 minutes to get the text (at which point it was expired), did another password reset, got the text, changed the password, logged out, can't log back in ("Oops — that phone number/password combination isn’t valid. Please try again.").

And just because I'm probably going to forget this number and not find it again when I need it: to port a number, you need to call 877-778-2106 and say "representative" three or four times (ignore the computer telling you it doesn't know WTF) to talk to a live operator.

Alright, I'm down to under $2.50 right now. I'm trying to see how far $35/month takes me; maybe I'll up it to $40/month next month.

I ended up installing Prepaid Widget and it's pretty neat. You set it up to send #BAL#, #MIN#, and #WEB# to get your balance, minutes, and data used (respectively) from TMobile and set up widgets to display that info. It was a little confusing setting up at first, but seems to work nicely. I ended up paying the $2 for the pro version so it automatically updates every 24 hours and after every call that I make.

Try leaving it on the charger for a little bit. Get the battery some time to top up a little.

You should be able to run a phone with no battery, but if you are doing a lot of things, you may be using more power than the charger provides. Not sure how much power booting up takes, but that may be an issue, especially with an under powered charger...

I want to put my parents on the $30/month 1500 Talk & Text plan from T-Mobile. They currently have a monthly plan from T-Mobile. To keep the same number, they would have to first port it to another carrier, right? I'm thinking swapping to VM for a couple of days, switching back, and returning the VM phone.

Can I use my old VM phone for this? It was deactivated when I ported my VM number over to T-Mobile.

I might go to radioshack or Best buy and get a phone to see how the reception/speed is in my area. Are they lenient with returns?

I had to call twice 'cause they hosed up taking down my info the first time, then had to do something different since Virgin isn't a monthly plan (?). Basically, calling TMobile sucked, especially trying to get to the right department for PrePaid customers. Doing it over the internet would have been better, but I wanted to check reception first.

Also, I thought porting from TMobile monthly to TMobile PrePaid was impossible? Because my dad somehow managed to do just that instead of just canceling his old monthly plan. Of course he did it after everyone was already updated with the new number and they now have to call everyone back with the old number. Old people mess things up!

I had problems getting auto-pay working, but that was user error.

It took about 48 hours to port my number, though. I did it after using the phone for a month and a) customer service said it would take a while coming from a pre-paid service (Virgin Mobile) and b) took down the info wrong, so I had to call them twice.

There is something wrong with my account on the website, though: it never lets me log in. I will do a password change and can get in just fine, but as soon as I log out, the password doesn't work again. It's pretty annoying, but I hardly ever have to log in.
