Oh, how I love ambient music (when the time is right.) As has been mentioned, Eno's Music for Airports and Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works are wonderful. Picture a very stoned man twisting knobs in a trance and poking and prodding a washing machine, mic'd up and sent to a homemade reverb chamber.
