I've been logging in on the rare occasion within the last 3 weeks.

Figured out how to fear/kite in the permafrost pits. The exp is ok, but no loot and the killing is slow.

I wonder what it would take to duo or trio an Icy Terror (I fuckn need my prickly pear). I imagine it's a bitch, but if I got the right partner(s) I could do it.

I tried to talk a level 59 necro into doing it with me, but he wasn't having it.

I'd be happy to give it a shot with you, just would need to move some gear back onto Bugen. I'll probably be semi AFK on Berak most of today, just shoot me a tell and we can get stuff shuffled and try if you want.

I don't think I can duo it with you on my 52 mage, but he's bound outside perma for Vox usage if you get another volunteer and just want some more DPS.

The info I'm looking puts the Icy Terror at around 8000 hp. The issue is if I could pull a single, I think they like to come in pairs. I may experiment with this first.

Would be fun to do a quest for once.

Definitely sounds duoable if that is correct info regarding HP. I don't remember them hitting harder than 120 or so. Between a monk and an SK I don't think getting a single will be an issue, just will take a little patience.

I've got my monk parked at perma now and I was able to get one single and have just enough HP to solo it (needed to start with 90% rather than 70% health to finish one). Splitting it out to the king room without clearing any giants was kinda annoying but it worked eventually. Will be much easier with you there to snare etc. and fighting one down in the pits.

Cool... I may have time tomorrow night.

There is one or two at the top of the ladders from the wolf/bear/spider pit, that may be a good spot to pull from. Dunno.

This. When I quit my job last February, I got some twink gear up and started playing a bard. About 10 days later, he was level 45. It's all about the solo aoe kiting if you want easy bard exp. It probably took me 50+ deaths to figure out what I was doing, which is why you want to start at a low level. But once ou master the technique, levels start flying by.

At one point, I logged into the OT really erly in the morning, pulled drat near the entire zone, and dinged 34 & 35.

That was February, my bard is still level 45. Gotta love employment!

Here's an OT bard pull screenshot. Lots of mobs, but each pull takes quite a while to kill. Casters Mobs and SOW mobs suck, but bards can eventually dispell.

EQ goes to a whole new level of fun when you toss 2 or 3 good bards together (in an empty zone).

Many item prices are on their way back up, so get in while the getting is good! There are at least 2 people trying to artificially push fungi prices back up now that the server-quitter-liquidation supply has tapered off.

Getting a CoF for a twink right away might be out of reach, but the lower end haste belts are quite cheap. RBGs are ~40k, SotDBs are ~8k, FBSSs are ~6k. I don't know that these will ever go back up as more RBBs and CoFs continue to pour into a pretty low population every week.

Had a minor panic attack because my main character didnt have any plat on him, and thought maybe I had been hacked or something. I had forgotten that I had moved it to a mule account because I thought I would have to sell my main character to afford good stuff.

Question I asked on the p1999 boards and got some strange answers. If you had to pick a weapon setup for a twink monk what would you use: T-staff or Stave of Shielding/Adamantite Club? Im kinda leaning towards the T-staff because tracking down one rare item is easier and probably a little cheaper than the other two. And traditionally I liked using 2hb because you get hit with fewer ripostes.

I already have a FBSS, which of course I had bought when prices were higher :argh:

TouchToneDialing
Jul 21, 2006

The biggest advantage for the T-staff is you attack less and will eat less ripostes. The damage can be all over the place though but it ends up evening out.

Stave of Shielding/Adamantite Club is much more consistent damage but faster attacks mean more ripostes. This combo is a caster killer though. The stun along with the two weapon push makes casters much easier.

SoS/AC makes more sense to me. Tstaff is replaced anyways once you get your epic and its not like picking one or the other is going to slow down leveling. They are both very good.

Well, it's kind of a complicated situation early on because of level based damage caps. Once the caps are gone, TStaff is better DPS than AC/SoS and certainly cheaper than that combo as SoS goes for more than a TStaff at this point.

From 1-10, a Jade Mace is actually the best weapon easily available because it doesn't get capped (weapon base damage contribution is limited to 10). From 10-20, it's 14 (AC/SoS is not too heavily penalized but TStaff is still hit pretty hard). 20-30 I'm not sure as I haven't had a character in that level range since they added that cap, but I would guess it's high enough that a TStaff is no longer too bad. At 30, a TStaff will start to be better than AC/SoS.

Here's some other considerations...
1. Monk epic is pretty easy. You can do it as early as 46 on this server right now, and there's a patch in the works that will make it MQable sooner than that. For most monks, epic fist mainhand + SoS offhand is the best DPS setup available in Kunark (Wu's Fist of Mastery from Sky are upgrades in either slot). It is definitely a (small) improvement on TStaff DPS and is the biggest reason that SoS has held its value despite all the other monk weapons dropping like a rock.

2. TStaff is a weapon that all monks should have available for both the proc as well as when fighting stuff with damage shields. Epic mainhand against a high level mage or druid damage shield will destroy you.

So...yeah. Lots of things to consider.

If you had unlimited cash, here's the best Dual Wield and 2H weapon configs at each level range (excluding Sky/VP):
1-10 Jade Mace/Jade Mace > RFS
10-20 AC/Jade Mace (or SoS) > RFS
20-30 RFS > AC/SoS
30-46 TStaff > AC/SoS
46-60 Epic/SoS > TStaff

If you want decent weapons at all levels, don't want to do a lot of ECing, and want to play for eventually having your epic, I'd go Jade Mace/SoS (can pick up an AC later if you don't get your epic right away).

If you're strapped for cash and don't have an interest in doing epic anytime soon, I'd get a Jade Mace to use early on with another cheapish 1HB (KD or another JM) and a TStaff for later.

If you've got the cash, grabbing and keeping a TStaff around regardless of what else you decide on isn't a bad idea, though I suspect they won't go back up in price for while, and may even continue to drop.

Actually saw someone selling a Cloak of Flames in EC tunnel today, dont remember ever see that before. Anyone got an extra 50k plat they dont want?

Im thinking at this point id just buy a fungi, maybe a lower end weapon (like a jade mace) and save every other copper for higher end haste.

They must have tweaked npc aggro, or Solusek A because the normally docile goblins nearly killed me when I cruised through there. Before they were so green they wouldnt aggro unless I like sat down near them. That would have been embarassing.

My twink set is nearly complete. I bought a knuckle duster (hope 900 wasnt too much to pay) and im looking to pay 1800-2000 for a jade mace. Got the chest item I wanted :black101:. Ive still got a decent amount of plat left over I could possibly buy a RBB, but maybe thats overkill. That would also preclude me from buying higher end monk weapons like a T-staff.

Oh and for the person who needed a Prickly Pear ive been seeing someone selling them for 1k. A little steep to be sure but could beat the alternative.

Server population is down, way down. Rumor from the leveling people is that 30-50 is a pretty big hole. Not to say there's no groups, it's just hard to find.

Several nights I've only seen like 200 people on. The exp bonus this past weekend boosted things back up though, I saw 400-500.

No news on Velious. It's definitely being worked on, there's just no transparency on progress.

Pretty much. It's not like the content was ever new to begin with, and now most of the high-end raiders are tired of the content and tired of raising alts. When Velious comes out, all the raid guilds will find themselves with 2-3 times as many active players as people come back. We've all had to do a lot of recruiting to keep being able to do stuff because attrition is so bad.

In raid news, for those who didn't know, TMO got a two week raid suspension. That's allowing the other guilds access to raid mobs. My guild, BDA, is currently the biggest force for the casual guilds, so we took first spawn of some mobs, but now we're leaving up every-other-spawn for a few hours to let the other casual guilds get a shot at it. Some mobs we're just not contesting at all.

Divinity got Trak down to 20% with only 30 people last night but wiped :(. We were all rooting them on. We killed him with an open raid afterwards with us, Div, and Acryid. Divinity won the roll on a BP hehe.

So yeah, this and next week will be more fun, as the other smaller guilds get shots at mobs, and hopefully they do some teaming up. We're hoping when TMO returns they'll continue the attitude of leaving mobs up and joint raids. Right now though, it's a lot of posturing from them about how noone will ever get another mob ever (they're a bit sore).

I'm kinda of the mind that the hardcore contingent has ran the server for a few years now, and the server is in it's death throes as far as population goes. Make it casual friendly, since that's what's left (aka, rotations). When Velious comes out, I'd be fine with it not having rotations for some time.

Raid mobs up for grabs, patch, and double XP weekend? Of course I'm off camping. Grats to BDA goons and others on your kills - nice to see the casual folks have a shot even if it took yet another TMO suspension to make it happen. I came back to several text messages on the old VD batphone to come help in VP if interested so I guess someone is trying to get that going also.

BDA actually got our first Trak kill shortly before TMO got suspended. They said they were in Hate, although we did see a lot of people camp out on poop mountain. Either way, we were pretty excited to get a Trak kill while TMO was still suspended.

Did you know that large portion of VD came to BDA? We took a big group application, and we did kick a few people, and just had to kick two more (and it hurt, but they forced our hand), but most people have been fitting in great. If you ever want to join the door is open.

Regarding VP - since TMO is forbidden from there for these two weeks, some of the old-VD-but-now-BDA guys who had keys have been playing around in there. They haven't managed to kill anything yet, but got Silverwing down to 3% one night. It's kinda awkward though, as only one BDA officer has his actual toon keyed (I hope to finish mine tonight though), and they've been having a few IB toons join them. Sloan has been putting them together. I heard them talking about batphoning the old VD line the other day, heh. I think they're planning on going every night that BDA doesn't have anything going on. It's cool to check it out without train city.

Spoiler alert: VP sucks, and not really worth the effort for a while, it seems. I thought Sky was designed to be a cock-blocking pain in the rear end, but VP makes it look like easy street (although cheaper since you don't have to buy port stones).

Ha! Yeah right. The only chance of a catass guild dialing back its bullshit is if a decent number quit, or otherwise have the poopsock spell broken, during their ban.

I've never seen a high-end raid guild be anything other than complete twats when it came to server relations and contested content... but I guess that's what you have to do if you want to be a high-end raid guild.

Yeah, I've been active the whole time since VD split up, there's just been a number of reasons I've held off. The biggest of these were the grading clusterfuck that is the end of the college semester and my wife and I having our first kid. I'm also really not a fan of mass applications - I prefer to get to know and be known on my own. I knew some of the people going over in the mass app were going to be problems so I'm glad to see they got sorted. I've been chatting with Skullmonkey a lot and will probably end up throwing an app your way in July after I get done with my last bit of summer traveling, though the recent crusade that some of the former-VD guys have been pursuing on the old VD boards to get people to join has been kind of obnoxious and off-putting.

VP is crazy yeah but it will be a lot better than it was the few times I went in with IB or VD (I won't have to constantly be ducking trains and dragging the bodies of people who couldn't). Doing stuff with small numbers is more fun too! I could totally have been 3%+ DPS on Silverwing, sorry I missed that. :(

Agreed and it's pretty sad. It's to the point where it can even infect well meaning guilds when they're exposed to the environment for long enough. Something that really pissed me off when I was in VD was when TMO and IB both got suspended and the VD leadership decided to take that as an opportunity to kill everything (ostensibly to show to TMO and whoever else that we were capable of doing so) despite mine and others' protests to do what BDA is doing now. Really happy to see that the folks at BDA aren't falling into that trap.
