Didn't see it mentioned, but it looks like Comixology now has the collected version of Vol. 7 up to buy now. I don't have much space, so I prefer getting what few comics I do get (and Robo is always a must-have) digitally whenever possible so I'm glad to see it up there.

That was basically my response, I just didn't want to sound ungrateful for more Robo in the thread. I was, in fact, just about to order up a copy from Amazon when my paycheck came in today since Comixology seemed to have abandoned me. Instead they, and you, get more of my money for the good things you do.

The more backers we have, the more funds we have to put into fulfilling orders as a total, but at the same time the individual cost of each item goes down. So, it's a balancing act. We're sure we won't lose money on the campaign, but we aren't entirely sure if we'll make a profit.

Or, more accurately, we're pretty sure we'll make a profit, but it might be such a thin slice of the $100,000+, and then split between us, that we may as well have broken even. If that makes sense.

But, hey, fans have been asking for this kind of stuff for years, so let's give it to 'em. Profits be damned.

I'm still extremely excited for my hardcover book and coffee mug, seriously. And I'm really excited that it managed to top $100,000. I was actually getting a little worried that it'd die off towards the end and fall just short, but now we all get bigger books!

Seriously though, I really appreciate you guys doing this. It's really cool and I hope that you can either do it again in the future, or spawn a Robo merchandising empire out of it.

Fairly early on I had a sense that we could break $100,000 but that it would be close. Everything from $110k+ has been a delightful surprise.

The other big surprise, for me, is the relative lack of success for the Dr. Dinosaur tiers. I suppose there's a limit to what most people will spend on total frivolous novelty. Lesson learned!

I have a biology class starting in a couple weeks, and I've been really tempted to buy one of the two tiers with a lab coat entirely to wear it to class, eventually. I'm pretty sure they won't fit me, though (I'm a typical fat goon) and it'd be fairly late into the semester to start something like that.

That said, I keep looking at that $600 "get all the things" level and mentally poking at my budget to see if it won't cough up extra money.

Oh yeah, I know. That doesn't mean I don't wish a few grand would magically plop out of my budget when I strike it about the face and ears. I'm perfectly content with the things I'm getting, honestly.

A few Robo things:

1. Apparently I didn't mention it before, but I got my Kickstarter stuff a couple months ago and it is all absolutely fantastic. I'm looking forward to being able to buy more Robo merch in the future.

2. How does Patreon work? If, say, I was to back it now would I be charged immediately or does it only start taking effect the first of the following month? They have a few FAQs on billing but I'm not very smart and figured I'd ask people who might have experience.

3. The $50 and $100 levels, those are one time only rewards, right? You're not going to force Scott to do a new commission for up to ten people every month, right?

There's also a, I believe, five to seven day period after the campaign ends to change your billing information! That's come in handy for me in the past, where I knew I would be broke right when a campaign ended but would get paid a couple days later.

My problem with this one is I want all 9 as hardcover but would have to sell bodily fluids to afford it, and I haven't been able to convince myself just yet that I'm willing to settle for a partial collection.

There's still a lot that could happen with Robo before this point, if you wanted to go back and tell those stories. You think you got it bad, we plan these things years before you even hear of them!

So, The Ring of Fire will be followed by The Temple of Od and that's followed by, uh, poo poo, I don't think we have a name for the one after that yet. We should figure that one out.

After that we have a toss up. We're doing all of these eventually, we just don't know in what order. Definitely not chronological though, 'cause that's boring. Also it behooves us to cut back to the present day for every second or third story to see how things are progressing in The Weird Future.

There's our big '60s spy escapade with The Spear of Destiny. This would be the Sparrow II story. Probably Sparrow I too. She still hates Robo.

Or our big '70s blaxploitation (botsploitation?) opus with Diamonds are for Never. Heroes for Hire crossed with Leverage in the 1970s. Also, I appreciate the irony that we're not using the Bond-like title for the Bond-like story.

Or our big '80s cyberpunk foray with The Mirrorshade Overdrive. Wargames by way of Project Daedalus.

Or our big '90s action movie romp with The Soldiers of Fortune. A bunch of old school Cold War science agents get dragged out of retirement for one last big mission to save the world.

These things. All of them. They all sound amazing. Is there any way to just do, like, all of them at once?

SOLID ADVICE

This is all really good stuff, I think for running any game set in a universe where there's one or two characters who everyone might want to play. The other thing I'd note is that, despite expectations, you'd be surprised how often nobody wants to play as that Obvious Character. Settings like Atomic Robo are fertile enough ground for new characters that a lot of players aren't going to want to stick to the "easy" option of playing Robo.

That said, Hyperactive, how weird is it to play your own comic book character in a game based on said comic book character?

Something I think people forget, and I'm not pointing fingers at anyone here, it's just something I've noticed in general discussion of Atomic Robo, is that humor isn't the main element of the book. Ghostbusters is comedy with some action. Indiana Jones is action with some comedy. We spend most of our time closer to the Indy end of that spectrum.

This is pretty much how I've always sold Atomic Robo to other people. "It's Indiana Jones with more SCIENCE and also he's a robot." Typically if that doesn't immediately sexually arouse them I can safely assume they're alien imposters and not real humans and react accordingly.
