Branch of Service: USN Career Field: SPECOPS/SPECWAR (Diver) Additional Duties: None I'm still pretty green as far as actually being in the Navy, but if you are interested in any of the Navy special operations or special warfare programs, especially if you aren't actually in the Navy yet, I can provide guidance on recruiting, training in DEP, and what your pipeline will be like. Contact: PM vv I'll try to be more clear as to what areas I can be useful to somebody as a sponsor. There is no shortage of information on the internet about any of the Navy Challenge Programs (Air Rescue, EOD, Diver, SEAL, SWCC), but much of it is contradictory. What I was being told by my recruiters wasn't any more reliable (the Navy doesn't even have the right minimums for the Physical Screening Test on their website). My recruiter, and once I started testing/training for my contract, my Special Programs mentor (they do consider Diver and Air Rescue special operations, but that is misleading; that designation has to do with physical requirements, monetary investment in training, and the level at which the commands are funded) steered me towards training for the PST, but the high attrition rates of all those programs don't really manifest themselves there. I can help people, whether they are currently in the navy and looking to crossrate, or are looking at these programs as civilians, focus their training on the kinds of things that cause people to DOR or get performance dropped. I can also answer questions about the various stops on all the pipelines (I know less about the post-BUDS SEAL stuff than anything else, but I know people I can ask). Specifically for people looking to go right from bootcamp into one of the pipelines, I can help you figure out if what you're hearing from your recruiter is valid. It is mostly in these areas that I wish I had had someone to come to with questions when I was looking into joining the Navy; once you are actually in any of these communities, there is no shortage of people with excellent advice for anyone smart enough to seek it out. I am fairly new to the Navy, but in the areas I mentioned, I'm pretty reliable. I can also talk about the kinds of jobs that EOD Techs/Divers do, but anything about the actual communities at EOD commands/Dive Lockers would be second hand, other than to say that all the Instructors I've had with any of these Rates (and I have had instructors with each of those rates) have been great. Not making GBS threads up the thread but isn't that guy a complete boot? I thought I remembered his name from a few months ago, also like no diver I ever met refers to themselves as anything but diver...certainly not special operations or w/e(though I guess they technically fall under that umbrella)

I guess cleaning out ovbd discharge and suction prolly a special operation though.

Branch of Service: Air Force Career Field: 3M0X1 - Services. Primary duties are working in the chow hall, lodging, and the base fitness centers. Additional Duties: This is the career field for people who are too stupid to be special forces or work on jets, or are naive enough to let the recruiter send you in "open general". Services is now part of the "Force Support Squadron" and you could find yourself doing one or several jobs. I've got 17 years of service, and between 6 duty stations and 8 deployments, I've done all of the following... Chow Hall: Cooking, accounting, quality assurance, storeroom receiving, VIP meals, flight kitchen, shift manager, facility manager Fitness: Front desk customer service, sports field maintenance, fitness equipment repair, league sports scheduling, budgeting & accounting Lodging: Front desk customer service (checking guests in and out, taking room reservations) I've also done work as a Unit Deployment Manager, Honor Guard Member, Rec Facility Manager, USO/MWR tour organizer, mortuary affairs assistant, search and recovery team member (looking for body parts in an airplane crash), library manager, and life guard at the base pool. If you don't know what you want to do, this actually isn't a bad job. We take a lot of heat from the more combat oriented people, but our job skills transfer well to the civilian sector when we separate or retire.
