With 24 hours to go, the creator of Earthworm Jim and The Neverhood is getting a sketchbook archive published. You should support it right now.

mr. mephistopheles posted:

So the musical artist Whitey launched a kickstarter today. You are probably wondering, "Who the gently caress is Whitey and why should I care?"

Well, chances are you've heard Whitey before.

You may remember this song from Grand Theft Auto 4 and a House TV promo (probably other places too):

Or this song from an awesome Breaking Bad montage:

Dude writes, records, and distributes all of his work by himself. One single man. There was a point in time where he had a record deal and then his second album got leaked on the Internet a few months before its release, which led to the deal being dropped and the album never seeing an actual release in its original form (it was later released with some songs added and some removed).

I remember a post on Whitey's myspace (remember myspace?) a couple years ago where he posted that his next album was delayed indefinitely due to a lack of something like "food, money, and interest." Things seem to be looking up from that point, and he claims to be living entirely on his income off of album sales, but the majority of his music does not even exist in physical form and I don't know when the last time he did an actual tour was, but it was a long time ago if ever.

So he's basically trying to get his work printed so people can own physical copies and also go on a tour. I have been a fan for years and I have never seen a musician with such limited resources make such an effort to get his work to as many people as affordably as possible. Aside from making great music, he seems like a really cool person and it would be nice if he could afford to play some live shows outside of his native country.
