I love the rare moment when you see certain trailers and you're just, "Yep. I'm there. That was made for me."

I just really hope the overall theme isn't in support of Scientology and rather shows L. Ron Hubbard's stand-in to be a psychotic, drug-addled lunatic. The fact that Tom Cruise had issues with this film seems to bode well however.

There is a 0% chance of that.

So, these are a series of videos made by Kees van Dijkhuizen, who every year since 2008 has made what amounts to a single extended trailer for all the movies released that year. I was impressed with the editing and the musical cues and I came out the other end of these thinking "I want to watch every single one of these movies" so I thought they were good enough to be worth sharing.

These are god damned amazing. Also great was his [the films of] series, a Cinema-style supercut of all of the movies of 12 filmmakers (well, 11 filmmakers and Pixar):

There are three other variations of the teaser out, but the only differences are the jokes that Mike makes when he's asleep.

Well, considering they are full blown working adults in the first one, it's not much of a stretch to say they were in college in the 70s.

Making Mike a Disco ball is amazing, and I am psyched for this.

Given the Spandau Ballet song, more likely the mid-80s, but still... looks cool by me.

I liked Pete Travis's Vantage Point, I thought it was a fun little action / espionage movie that took itself a little too seriously at times. Dredd doesn't look like it'll have that problem at all.

Wow that looks poo poo. Of all the story lines they could have picked why invent a totally bland premise involving OMG evil drug kingpins? It looks like its going even further down the fascist fantasy route rather than the dark satire route.

Just watched DREDD...guess i'm not the only one who thought it looked like The Raid with laser guns.

My contribution:

Jerry Goldsmiths Score (Re-Orchestrated by John Beal) for the 1995 Judge Dredd Trailer

http://youtu.be/43-BefmjMFg

Between the two they both have their own merits. The John Beal version was the one in the actual trailer, but the Goldsmith original is still amazing.

Here's a compilation of the two pieces:

I loved trailers as a kid (still do) which is how I got into film production.

Denial isn't just a river in Egypt, huh? Nah, get fucked mate.
Paul Thomas Anderson is, to my knowledge, the only living director who cuts his own trailers. Anderson was very dissatisfied with the trailer for his second feature, "Boogie Nights", and took creative control over the marketing of his films. With "Magnolia" in 1999, Paul Thomas Anderson made a teaser and a rather long trailer for the film, utilizing 'special shoot' footage of the characters in their respective locations introducing themselves to the camera.

"Punch-Drunk Love" has a rather ordinary trailer by companion, but it still gets the mood of the film across perfectly. "There Will Be Blood" on the other hand, changed things up by leaking its first teaser online-only, then playing a full trailer in theaters.

I've heard that the Dredd script has been floating around for about five years, so its likely that any similarities to The Raid are purely coincidental. It steam engines when its steam engine time and all that.

Apparently the director of the Raid was asked about this

quote:

Dredd also began filming in 2010 before the Raid Redemption, here are a few words from The director of the Raid Garth Evans himself in a recent interview:

Q. Do you know that the new Judge Dredd film has essentially the same plot as The Raid?
Gareth Evans: Yes, while we were in post-production on The Raid I was telling a friend of mine that we’d just finished shooting and told him what the story was about and how this unit of cops had to fight their way out of a building after their raid comes down on them, he replied: “That’s like the new Judge Dredd movie.” I said: “What?” So, he sent me this thing where I could read the synopsis for it and I thought: “Oh God, we’ve got to get released very, very soon!” [Laughs]
