That Argo trailer is fantastic. It made me check out some of the trailers for another '70 true story, the German movie The Baader Meinhof Complex about the RAF terror group. As the story is far more widely known in Europe then in America the trailers are also very different depending on the audience.

The German trailer shows some shots from the scenes roughly in chronological order. Riots, the first generation getting into terror and being arrested while the second generation carries on. Everyone knows the story already. About half the trailer is used to showcase the actors likeness to the actual subjects whose faces will be known to just about everyone in Germany. It's sold as a sort of documentary where the effort in recreating 1970's Germany and the people involved in the RAF as realistically as possible is the main selling point.

Another German trailer which is basically a recap of the whole movie.

In this English language version the movie is introduced as "from the director of Downfall" and the protests against the Vietnam war are prominently featured, much more then in the movie itself. Scenes are kind of randomly presented with "a true story" added for those unaware of the subject matter. At the end some typical trailer music is added over explosions to get some action movie feeling going. The lack of subtitles and clear use of the word 'loving' in German makes me think this is not an American trailer.

Now here things get really crazy for this American trailer. This massive trailer presents the movie with comic book subtitles and even some speech balloons. Except for an intro the whole political background is tossed out for showing young sexy people doing cool poo poo before The Man cracks down and throws them in jail. Review quotes and terms are thrown on the screen with '60 music on the background.

The big problem with that trailer is "Gimme Shelter". I mean, it's a classic song, but it should probably just be retired from trailers, because it seems like it's been in HUNDREDS OF THEM. Grraaaaah! :argh:

Why ? Because it's a great song. John Goodman enters the scene and the Stones kick in, that's how you sell a movie.

Flight looks really interesting as it seems on a real crash minus the lawsuit. The actual pilot who put down a crippled plane and saved part of the people on board in a way no one could reproduce in a simulator passed away a month ago. Errol Morris did an intervew session with him and it's fantastic.

Let's get some new Arnold up in here. Last Stand trailer:

I'm curious to see how Arnold's particular brand of talent holds up these days. So much of his charm came from just being weird in a way that really meshed with 80s and 90s sensibilities I'm curious to see if it still comes across in our overly gritty times.

It's made by by the directory of The Good, The Bad and The Weird which is crazy good over the top action.

Is it just me or does every line spoken in the trailer sound like it was pieced together from different bits of dialogue ? Or are they just cutting out pauses between words to save a little time for the trailer ?
