Which makes me wonder how many of their other mid-to-low range cards will be rebranded 7000 series GPUs, maybe just cherry-picked ones that are guaranteed to run at higher clocks with better stability. Like, will the 270x be a rebranded 7950 or perhaps a 7870 GHz edition?

It's been confirmed since like day one that that is in fact the case. I don't really care though, last AMD generation's fastest single GPU that cost like $500 or something when it was new is now only a chunk more expensive than Nvidia's entry level enthusiast GPU. It's filling in the huge price gap Nvidia's got going on between the 760 and 770, but matching the performance of the higher tier while being much closer in price to the lower tier.

Edit: I guess what I'm saying is I'm super hyped about the 280x but don't really give a poo poo about the rest. Especially the 290x, everyone is so pumped about a titan killer but why? How many people are actually buying either of those things?

As an aside if you're willing to tinker with Afterburner, most 7850 based off the 7870 pcb tend to hit 1100 with little to no voltage once the software clock limit comes off with the best ones hitting up to 1250 once overvolted.

My 7850 can hit 1.2ghz with no problem, but when I tried to OC the memory poo poo crashed, I hope that doesn't prevent any worthwhile performance gains.

What games are you people playing to justify high end GPUs? Stop making me feel bad about my 560ti. :(

Reading the GPU and monitor threads makes me feel like an impoverished mofo, but keep in mind a lot of the people here have way more money than they do patience/tolerance for slightly lower quality games.

What are folks' experience with fan rattle? I've gone without for about a week now. It was only giving funny noises some of the time for a short while. Should I assume the worst or what?

Can't you just do "com_maxfps 120"?

I am wondering why triple buffering is never mentioned? The extra 1 frame of latency?

I turned triple buffering on in counter strike the other day because the insanely high FPS was causing some tearing, and it was like aiming a gun with a cinder block hanging off the front. I didn't think I'd really notice a teensy bit of input lag considering how long I used a TV instead of a monitor, but it made it really hard to play.

It was the same way in DE:HR for me, but if I didn't have vsync on it would tear so bad I could barely see anything when I was turning. I haven't played it in a couple months though so maybe some drivers have fixed it since then.

My Radeon 6950's fans are messed up and I am going to need to RMA it. MSI says up to 20 days on the turnaround and being a giant nerd I don't want to go that long without my gaming needs (plus I don't have a laptop so just in general I'd rather not go 3 weeks without a PC).

What is the cheapest card that could play Counter-Strike Global Offensive at a decent clip that I could buy and sell used when I get my card back. I play at 1920x1080.

If you don't end up putting a new cooler on yourself, CS:GO/any source game can run on anything. Try taking your card out and seeing how it goes on your integrated graphics and whether you can put up with that for two weeks. Before my functioning GPU arrived I played CS:GO on my 3570k's integrated hd4000 at 50-60 fps (low settings though, but I doubt a CS junkie would mind that much if it means good framerates.)
