I've had very small issues with AMD cards over the past 3-4 years, and they were mostly resolved very quickly. I'm currently running a HD6990 and it's perfectly fine and performs exceptionally well in almost every game I own. While AMD does get a lot of flak, their cards are still quite good. The frame latency issue is a bit of a poo poo problem with the 7000 series though, which hopefully gets resolved soon.
