:tem: Temmie. From Undertale, that game everyone's talking about. Probably won't see much use outside the game's thread and LPs.

Well, it's a combination of the rowdy trout thing with the ancient IRC command/joke /slap where a user is slapped with a trout. And that command was a reference to a Monty Python sketch because nerds.

Goons had all the top 10 spots at one point but half of them were disqualified for using copyrighted material without permission. In the end goon Detroit_Dogg's design 'Snowboot' came third in the people's choice vote:

... but because the first two winning designs were DQed for copyright violation it was eventually deemed the People's Choice winner and according to the thread it was definitely manufactured and sold

And after some googling I found this:

Edit: I updated the SAclopedia listing

That's actually a really good snowboot design.

I'm just thinking of stuff like the time goons raided an ingame funeral (for someone who died irl) in WoW that was taking place in a pvp zone. You can justify it with saying it's in bounds of the game and mechanics, but it does seem kinda uncool in retrospect. (Last it came up in the WoW thread it was a pretty divisive subject) Also, second life raids, which admittedly I don't know a ton about, but sounded like it was kinda more of a thing of loving with people who were just trying to do their own (however cringey) thing. That's sorta why the phrase 'taking the game too seriously" makes me a bit uncomfortable, it can be really dismissive of something that people might be getting some fun out of?

Both those things own and modern goons really need to step up their game.

while eve brought me to this here forum I remember age of wushu being absolutely bonkers for the antics goons got up to.

Wushu was great. Turning the hubs into an all-out brawl. Planting fields of lemon so our characters wouldn't load for people trying to deliver carts. Learning how to vomit wine onto people, getting them drunk, then using it to snipe streamers. Getting people thrown in jail for hours and offering to play Go with them. Getting school leaders thrown in jail so they couldn't defend their positions at the weekly tournament. Farming cheap skillbooks that had the same icon as rare ones, then using them to cheat rubes in trades. Injecting scripts into the horribly unsecure game chat, causing pictures from the game files to show up in the chat window.

My high school had an 'active shooter' incident before school shootings were all the rage (and before I went there, though I had a class in the room he held hostages in.) That guy wore a trenchcoat. I think it's just something about the image of the dark stranger in the leather duster that makes it a thing for disaffected youth.

Yeah, it was cool until the disaffected youth started wearing it.

Marvel Heroes. When you hit max level with a character you could reset back to level one and do it again, your name would be a different color as a reward. The final reset, yellow username text, was called cosmic and was way slower to level. The grind led to it becoming something of an in-joke in the thread, people grinding it up and advocating that others do the same. It's basically a vanity emote of the OP.

On a related note, the doom toot avatar's name comes from the name of the company that made the game. :gaz:
