gnarlyhotep posted:I'm trying hard to see it like that but I can't. I think your brain has problems. It's more like three-quarters view, the big suction-cup fish mouth pointing to the upper left. The smaller eye is behind it, looking kind of shell-shocked. (So I guess it works if you see it as a face or as a fish.) The mouth could be a neck-wrinkle or even some delineation of the tail. glub \

gnarlyhotep posted:You people are nuts. That does not look like a fish. If the big eye is the mouth, then the mouth is on his butt. This poo poo is hosed up. Hell, I only saw the fish when Groghammer mentioned the possibility, but I can see it, easy.

This is pretty much the first time I've seen a national attitude from a NZ native (apart from my husband; he's cool) that wasn't blatant and aggressive chauvinism. It's refreshing; thank you. My inlaws are batshit. What "country" is from, anyway?

Picture it as a refined graphical version of this horizontal smiley: O_o (The "fish" misconception was covered here before in some detail.)

As Google transitions to Chat from Hangouts, it's discontinuing support for third-party chat apps like Pidgin--which I've been clinging hard to pretty much only because of its support for custom SA smilies. Technology and modding and poo poo has come a long way since that resource hit, though; is there a way to incorporate our smilies into some kind of custom emoji keyboard for Windows or Android? (I think there's one for iOS.) Hell, I'll make sure the people I use smilies with have the same software on their end so nothing gets tofu'd. Not being able to garnish my messages with a choice smartass smiley will suck.

Yeah, it's just my immediate family--folks, husband, kid--so Discord or Slack feels like overkill, especially if we don't use them for anything else. Oh, well. Thanks for the suggestions!
