I doubt they'd spend the extra money on moving all the assets to PS4 even if they did get around to localizing Y5. There just aren't enough consoles in the wild for it to make sense, especially since 4 did really poorly despite the ps3 being pretty decently rooted when it finally came out. As much as I love Yakuza, I don't think I'd be willing to spend $400 just to play a slightly-better looking version of a 2+ year old game.

Going back to Yakuza 1 after playing 3 and 4 is really weird. Not only is the gameplay different but even hearing english dialog is throwing me a bit. Who are you people? Why can I understand everything you're saying? Why do I keep missing the people I want to punch?

Yakuza 4 was my first Yakuza game and I thought it was a touch easy on easy, but I don't remember how difficult it is compared to 3.

Don't bother getting all the coin locker keys off the bat, they're not shared between characters until the last couple chapters. I don't know how much is missable but that's what new game + is for. I don't think that anything on the third character's story is missable and I'd reccomend powering through the story because having to sneak around town all the time suuuucks

Holy poo poo the back half of yakuza 1 is loving TERRIBLE. It's just every poor gameplay decision wrapped up into one. The car chase was borderline unplayable and the bossfight with Arase was the absolute worst since one mistake and you get shot 18 times, and since your combos don't actually correct towards an enemy if you miss you just keep whiffing until you get knocked down with bullets.

The only Yakuza game in the numbered series that I haven't played and beaten is Yakuza 1. But I have heard so much about it just from playing the other games in the series that I think it would probably be pointless.

I replayed it recently and the plot is a lot better and more in depth than the recaps make out, but the gameplay is not friendly in the slightest. If the HD collection ever gets localized it would be worth going through with that, but on the PS2 it's kind of a mess, although that just goes to show how much the sequels have improved on the base formula.

The big thing is that your combos in the original don't track an enemy as they move, so if you're misaligned even a small amount it's easy to end up whiffing. If that was fixed then all the other stuff is bearable, but if it's not it's just not really worth playing imo.

Sega does own the rights to Crazy Taxi, and they did put A Car in a fighting game before. You could make a super interesting Yakuza game without taking him out from behind the wheel.

More spawns can be annoying if you're low on health or trying to go somewhere, but you can also get drunken combos (or maybe that's a character specific thing in 4) that make it worth it.

Unless your ps+ is running out soon you can just claim y4 and then play it whenever e ready, they don't get removed when the month is over

I'd play 3 first, but if it gets boring just move on to 4, 3 starts out slow as hell.

Which reminds me, was Millennium Tower around in the 80's? Will it explode in Yakuza 0?

It was brand new in 1, and Saejima has a throwaway thing about how it's new, so it shouldnt be there, but what was there before can still explode.

Defeating Amon at the end unlocks tiny model prototype mockups of the Tower, which you can throw at opponents to create a giant explosion, obviously.

There's a bomb hidden inside of the mockup of the towers and it's going to be used in some kind of assassination, so you have to take it and throw it into the sea before it blows up and kills your boss

It's pretty trivial to get an item that reduces random encounters, I managed to get a smelly scarf or whatever out of a locker pretty early on, and I want to say there's a place you can buy them, but I don't remember where.

My favourite Yakuza casino thing was exploiting the RNG (and savestates) to rack up 100 billion yen worth of chips as soon as purgatory opened up. Knowing that you're only 100 hours of dragging plates back and forth from solving all of the Tojo clan's problems breaks the narrative just a little bit.

Question about playing as Saejima in Yakuza 4. A few of the moves say to press triangle when the enemy bounces off the ground when you have heat, does anyone have advice on how to do these moves? I'm having a hard time pulling them off.

I've found them really tricky myself, but I've found that cutting my combo short by a hit or two helps, and it takes a bit longer than you'd think it should for the prompt to show up.

I'm kind of assuming you need some upgrades. On that note, what unlocks additional upgrades for your taxi, just driver level?

How much are you drifting? The Spangled Meteor is difficult to pass, but doesn't rubberband quite as much as the other racers, I felt, so once you get ahead, you should be able to keep it that way with some drift boosts. My taxi was level 3 when I did it and I made sure to save my proper boost for the final stretch just in case.

The braking is probably most of your issue, you should be able to take em all without letting off on the gas. Drifting just gives you a little boost which is handy now and then, but it's super weird to control.

Saejima just takes practice to get used to. In 4 there were a lot of pretty low stakes fights early on to let you catch on to his fighting style (and it let you do two hit finishes right off the bat, I think?) but 5 you're kinda thrown into the deep end pretty quick. I find holding triangle right after hitting square the third time gets the charge off, but once you get to the city and start beating up hosts and poo poo constantly it'll come to you. I think the big things to remember is that he's super powerful and drat near impossible to knock down when his heat is charged, so try not to use too many item finishers so you can always be smashing
