The only actually good minigame addition in the sequels was Scrum Debate (and that was 80% because of the music). Or was the minigame actually called Split Opinion and everyone just called it Scrum because that's what the soundtrack called it?

Psyche Taxi wasn't the worst, I guess. And they did improve PTA a bit.

It was Debate Scrum iirc, that's what the little icon said. Personally on top of the music I liked it for actually having all the characters contributing to the game rather than just being the protagonists' internal thoughts.

He'll live through the first chapter but then die unceremoniously in the second.

Honestly I think this is the best way to go. He was already the intended target of original case 1 before Ultimate Imposter sacrificed himself, so Komaeda actually dying there would be sort of anticlimactic, I think. And as Bifauxnen talked about earlier, if he survives till the end he either won't live up to his own legacy or he will and it'll overshadow everybody else. But dying in case 2 after revealing his true nature? That I think gives just the right mix of people being glad that he's not around to be insane anymore, but also realizing that they probably shouldn't be feeling glad that somebody's dead. So far that kind of dichotomy of feelings about Komaeda dying is about the only way I can see to thread the needle.

I think there are a bunch of people who can create trailing images. I know some who could do this as if they were just going out for a stroll.
Doesn't look like they touched the text at all which is a bit of a shame, the script could have used another pass.

drat does it look beautiful though

I hope Mr. JYB sounds a little bit more enthused as Hajime in the new scenario, though...

Silent Protagonist
The thing that gets me about doing an alternate scenario for DR2 specifically is that unless they completely change the premise, I don’t think who lives and who dies actually affects much of anything? Unless they get really ballsy and kill off Hajime or something, I think Chapter 6 plays out the exact same way even if the survivors are completely different, since they mostly just spend the whole trial standing around making shocked expressions anyway, and Monokuma/Junko doesn’t really care who dies as long as enough of them do; their plan works the same either way. I keep telling myself that it’s journey not destination and the fun part is the murder trials, not the endgame loredump, but still. Not sure I wouldn’t have rather had a new game with a new cast.

The other thing is that there are only a few characters in DR2’s cast who I think still have gas in the tank. I like Ibuki and Gundham well enough as characters, but I don’t think there’s a whole lot left for them to do that they haven’t already done. This is in contrast to both 1 and V3, where I felt there were quite a few characters who could shine with more screentime, or who would be interesting to see in circumstances other than the ones they ultimately ended up in.

Ah well. We must all bow to the whims of popularity, I guess.

I think there's no way the game doesn't set us up for some kind of V3 esque timeline subversion. Might even go the exact same route as HNDR with the time loop reveal

Ooh, I kinda knee-jerk thought that having him die around chapter 2-4 would just be a letdown, but when you put it this way I really like the idea.

He could even finally get his wish to directly help out his own murderer, to make things way more convoluted! And it'd make a nice rough parallel to DR1's chapter 2, when Togami hosed with the crime scene for kicks. But who'd take him up on it... maybe Souda.

You'll get to chapter 6 and instead of Byakuya and Kyoko showing up to explain you're all in a simulation, Shuichi and Maki show up to start yelling at everyone to stop beating a dead horse.

Given what happened to Kaede's VA, I don't think they're going to use that character ever again, at least in a speaking role.

Okay, so I was wrong on this! There's already a patch out fixing at least some of the issues in one of the routes (Ministry of Health), but it sounds like they're going to keep working on it. Good to hear.

Oh, yeah I suppose so. Actually on that point, isn’t Usami’s Japanese VA dead? I wonder if they’ll recast her for the new scenario or just use the recorded lines in different contexts.

She is, though that death was from old age rather than suicide so more acceptable for a replacement. If they want to be clever they can even hire Takako Sasuga's successor of her Sazae-san role (which she performed up to her death at age 87).
