Not really. An anime has a higher chance of being localized than a game these days because Funimation licenses practically anything they can get their hands on. Unless the show is somehow aired on Adult Swim and becomes a success, I don't see it being localized.

I wonder if they're actually going to dub it or just translate the dialogue. God knows with Funimation having the rights to the anime they're going to have their own voice cast and not do anything involving the game, but I don't really know if Danganronpa's well known enough in Japan or not to warrant English voices over here. ONLY TIME WILL TELL, I SUPPOSE. Also I like that the title "Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc" it sounds a lot more innocent than "Hope's Peak and Despair Students."

EDIT: Also, is this one a rerelease of the PSP game onto the PSN store or are they actually putting the game on the Vita?

I don't think there's going to be any way NISA is going to get a cartoon VA everyone recognizes for this game, it would probably take up all of the money NISA is planning to use on the voice acting provided they actually hire an ADR Director. I think the closest anyone could get would be like Sean Schemmel or Chris Sabat since most of the people in the West who will probably even play this game are kids who grew up with Dragon Ball Z and those are two influential voices from a popular cartoon, I guess. I'm really spitballing on that one, but it's not like Monobear absolutely has to sound like he does in the Japanese version. There's a lot of ways this could go really and I don't see any of them being what people are hoping for.

Some voice actors are confirming their roles on Twitter for Dangan Ronpa in the West. People who have confirmed their characters so far.

Makoto Naegi - Bryce Pappenbrook (Zidane in Dissidia, The Protagonist & Isaachar in SMTIV, and Henry in FE Awakening)
Kyoko Kirigiri - Erika Harlacher (She's actually a pretty new voice actor, not any big credits people would know)
Hifumi Yamada - Lucien Dodoge (He's a new voice actor on the Cali scene too, but he's been in commercials before and voiced Waver Velvet in the Fate/Zero dub)
Yasuhiro Hagakure - Kaiji Tang (Violet in Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Kenshiro in FOTNS: Ken's Rage, and Owain in FE Awakening)

Voice cast is looking nice so far. Gotta say, I'm pretty happy to see some new blood finally, if there's a game in the west to do this with it's probably this game. Also I did not expect them to choose Bryce Pappenbrook, but hey that's another good voice for Naegi.

For a game series that tried to toss you up from being able to figure out the game from just the demo, they really have a hard time not spoiling stuff in the Vita trailer, huh? Although it's probably at that point where I'm perfectly fine on being spoiled on these games.

The main reason I'm asking that question, is because I just want to know the general opinion. It's nice to hear that the actual gameplay part has been massively improved, on the story part though I've only read in-depth spoilers on what happens and I'm curious as to how most people feel about a lot of the stuff. DR2 Stuff: I personally, from all the stuff I read, feel like the game seems like it kind of gets dumb in a not-good way at Chapter 3. Now, I'm not being fair to the game at all by saying that, I haven't played the game nor am I probably going to until NISA gets it out here, but I dunno, I'm skeptical.

Captain Baal

To be fair, if the respond to SDR2's really dumb plot twists at the end of the game is seriously, "Where else could they have gone?" That's a good indication your story has gotten out of control even for a story of a series that's already pretty nuts. Now from what I've read, I have to say, Komaeda really seems like one of the most original villains in a while. He takes his own spin on a commonly positive feeling such as hope and manages to twist it in a demented way, his Ultimate Good Luck also works in a really interesting way to the point where it even seems like he can manipulate a concept, and at the end of the day he even manages to use his own death as a gambit, which was pretty fuckin' rad.

I said this in the first case of the LP thread and it's more than likely just thematic similarities. There's no real big mystery behind it. In a game where literally everything is explained, I'm happy that is not.

So apparently Jason Wishnov has been confirmed to be voicing Byakuya Togami. I'm really happy they're using new voice actors, but this is more than likely a cost cutting thing than an actual "Give new guys a chance" thing. I'm hoping that since they're testing the waters with the first game they won't just try to cut costs and get more new VAs for the second game, but decide to mix it up. Although who really knows?

So far, I've not seen anything that makes this any less likely. Either way, though, the variety'll be nice I suppose. Certainly better than Yuri Lowenthal and Laura Bailey for the umpteenbillionth time at least.

Oh no, I completely agree, I'm probably just a bit bitter, because none of my predictions have been right so far, but that's good. It shows that it's a lot less predictable than I was originally guessing. Also, Jim Cummings as Monobear would be loving amazing and it's unfortunately not going to happen.

Anyway, I think they're doing the reverse of what they did with the original Japanese cast. Bunch of high-profile people, so it's hard to tell what character they'll kill off from that alone. Here they've chosen a bunch of people nobody has ever heard of it, gives the same effect.

The problem with this is that most English VAs in general are nobodies even to people in the West who DanganRonpa would appeal to. Chances are most of the people who buy DR are going to end up just putting it on Japanese voices anyways and even then most of the ones who don't probably wouldn't recognize some of the VAs they'd typically use because they don't care enough. This is more than likely a cost cutting measure, they know this game's not going to sell a lot so they're getting a lot of new name nobodies who aren't able to negotiate a higher paycheck like most of the other ones, not like that's be much higher anyways.

Also I'm agreeing on them hiring either Sam Riegel or Dave Wittenburg for Monobear just because they voiced Teddie, that's lame. However the problem is NISA doesn't exactly have the dollar bills to really drop on a cartoon VA like Jim Cummings and even union VAs who were in some 90s anime like Steve Blum that would have a similar effect. This was one of th big problems with DR getting a western release, the effect of voice actors can't realistically be recreated over here unless it got picked up by like Viz Media, which it had no chance of.

Yes, voice actors in Japan are basically celebrities. Nobuyo Oyama herself is massively well known for voicing Doraemon and her involvement with Dangan Ronpa generated quite a bit of attention to the game over there. Meanwhile, our equivalents to her are not really options to a game like Dangan Ronpa. Basically anyone like, Tex Avery (Dead), Frank Welker (Union), Jim Cummings (Union), and even then the closest thing to a well known VA to everyone who plays games, watches cartoons, or anime, Steve Blum, would have no chance because he's union too.

No, this is completely fine. I have enough confidence in the new VAs to do a good job despite this more than likely being a cost cutting measure. I don't really see much of anyone reacting to these things beyond "OH hey, new VAs, neat."

Eh, that's just a few short voice clips taken out of the context of what voice relates to which character, can't really garner much of anything off of that. That being said, I think Monobear's voice sounds about as goofy as I was expecting it to sound and from what little I could hear of Bryce Pappenbrook, he sounded fine.

EDIT: I'm still really annoyed his name is Monokuma.

Captain Baal

Most of Monobear's sinister nature comes from the fact he's voiced by Doraemon, but instead of the character being a goofy loveable cat thing he's just a murderous bear. If you never grew up with Doraemon, then basically you have no reason to think that bear sounds anything other than goofy as hell, which he always does. He has very few moments where he's outright evil sounding, for the most part his delivery is through him talking in a calm/goofy demeanor about terrible things. Danganronpa likes to do casting gags much like a lot of other stuff which bases itself in Japanese pop culture.

That's a pretty harmless translation and sort of confirms my suspicions that NISA is appropriating the localization so Westerners will get it. I just worry that some people are going to get mad about the translation changing the Japanese cultural stuff, although chances are that's more likely to happen with the Tumblr crowd than anyone else.

What criticism is there really to listen to? Most of these VAs are relatively new (Some exceptions being Erin Fitzgerald, Lani Manella, Bryce Pappenbrook, and Kaiji Tang), but have done better work in other stuff. Jason Wishnov doing such a bad job as Togami is baffling me, I've heard him do voice work before and sound fine, how is his delivery this flat? I'm assuming NISA got like a B-Team of theirs to work on the game, but it is still ridiculous how he sounds so mediocre. Everyone else sounds okay, even though the delivery from Monobear in that trailer isn't stellar, but drat Togami is just baffling to me. I have to imagine their ADR Director that handled the voice work either gave him bad directions or they really just did not care about the dub that much.

I guess it's nice to hear they've already got plans, but it seems strange to me they'd even say "We'll see how it does" in relation to the game getting the sequel localized and then they just do it. Then again NISA doesn't localize half of the games they do for fear of sales, lest we forget Time and Eternity or really anything they do that's not Disgaea.

I watched the first case trial on Youtube. I liked most of the voice acting, with the exception of Sakura (sorry, this is just my opinion, but she sounds like a wizened, delicate, aged sage). I'm not really enamored with Monokuma either, but as stated earlier, NISA decided to go with their own take on Monokuma's voice. I do appreciate that they realised they weren't going to quite match Monokuma in Japanese, and went in a different direction instead. Byakuya's voice seemed slightly odd to start with, but I got used to it as the trial went on. Makoto is pretty good, but I do have to wonder, if DR2 is really being released in English, and assuming NISA does the same as Spike-Chunsoft in regards to voice actors, how well Makoto's voice actor will do with Komaeda?

Bryce Pappenbrook has a history of mostly voicing scrappy young protgaonists, he doesn't do villains very much and if he does they're never like... off their loving rocker like Komaeda is. So if they do decide to recast him as Komaeda instead of just doing a different voice, I'd like to think it could be a role that would really show off his chops. Also I think Sakura's fine, she's meant to sound like some antiquated sage, it's sort of the same way the Japanese did it.

I gotta say though I'm really loving Ishimaru's voice, it's just perfect for him. It's the right amount of bass while also acknowledging he's a noodly teenager. About the only voice I can say I really have problems with is maybe... Leon's? Like it's not bad, but I was expecting something a bit deeper and more intense, it works for him though.

It's insane to me they acknowledge that Jack is a case of DID then the loving Hangman Game's word is Schizo. Like come on dude, you could've at least used Schizophrenia before this if you were gonna do that. I had to just shoot random letters because I had no idea what could've related to DID that was six letters with H and I as the middle letters.

EDIT: Oh and Jack's voice actor is definitely Erin Fitzgerald which sort of confirms to me that her twitter was right about another character she's voicing so that makes me pretty drat happy. This is probably the best voice in the dub so far, I can only think of one other character in the game who might top this, so I can't wait for that one too.

Giving Celeste that lovely French accent was one of the best decisions they made for the dub.
