I'll have to sit down and listen when the game is actually released, but I didn't like Monokuma's voice. It just didn't sound right, but I'll have to see how it actually is in-game matched to the character. Some of the students sounded hit and miss too... Edit: I think that clip for Monokuma didn't sit well with me because it didn't sound sinister enough. It was playful, but not sinister at the same time. Did he? I don't have the firmest grasp of Japanese, so I'm not the most qualified to judge this, but he always sounded like he had some sort of... I don't know the word. I don't want to say "gruffness," but that's the only thing coming to mind at the moment. I'll have to listen to his Japanese voice again. It could just be the actor's age I'm hearing.

I know of Doraemon, but I certainly didn't grow up with it. I guess not sounding sinister enough isn't what's off to me. Maybe it's the acting quality, or just because I'm too used to his Japanese voice.

Yeah, Naegi's voice was really weird too. Again, I'll have to listen to it in context. I don't want to be that guy, but I may end up playing this game with the Japanese voices on.

Is it just me, or is the sound quality in this game really low? Like watching a video at 240p or something? Maybe it's just my earbuds, but they seem fine with everything else. edit: The button sensitivity is pretty annoying too. I keep accidentally double-tapping through text boxes. :/ edit2: at least the dub is much better than the trailers let on. But I am really disappointed with Ogami's voice. I was expecting Kenshiro, not what sounds like some guy who just swallowed helium... Butt Ghost fucked around with this message at 02:20 on Feb 15, 2014 |

There's something about Togami's English voice I really can't stand. It fits him, but it just annoys me, I guess. It's too... monotone, maybe?

Chapter 2 was bad for, like, everyone. Well, I suppose that's always the case, but drat. Monokuma and the rest of whoever he's with can go gently caress themselves especially hard after then end of chapter 2. This game might be more hosed up than 999, despite its wacky high-school shenanigans.

Funny you say that, because Tara Platt voiced Mitsuru and Tron Bonne.

I haven't seen the credits, but that wouldn't be surprising, considering a lot of dubs for these games involve Union shenanigans. People in Atlus don't even know who Naoto's voice actress is.

Well, I beat it, and now I have that empty feeling of despair. I know well ahead of time that Junko was the mastermind, but I had no idea she was so eccentric. She made for a great over the top villain. That ending was pretty bittersweet. I was hoping maybe some "virtual-reality, they aren't actually dead" nonsense was going on, but nah. Everyone aside the surviving six is dead, and the memories everyone had of each other before things went to hell are gone. The ending was happy, well, as happy as it could be, but I can't help but feel bad. Either way, Dangan Ronpa ended up proving to be one of my favorite games. Hopefully I'll be able to recover from the trauma of despair soon enough to sit down and learn how to manage school mode. As of now, I'm burned out.

It's impossible to max out everyone's social link thing in one playthrough. Don't worry about it, you get an easy way to do so post-game anyway.

The LE was really lackluster in general. The best thing about it was the boxart. Of all the great tracks in the game, the only tracks on the cd were two version of the opening, and the music for everyone's execution. The execution music isn't bad, but it's not really something I want to listen to by itself. The art book is just all character art you see in the game's opening. That's really disappointing considering how sweet that art book that featured the concepts of every character's execution was.

Oh wow, I thought Another Story was gonna turn out garbage, but this looks alright. I wonder if those silhouettes at the end where all the playable characters, or if maybe they were bosses. The one on the very left might have been Genocider Jill, pointing towards characters, but I couldn't really tell.

My copy of DR2 just arrived today. The collector's edition is better this time around. The box is bigger, but mine came in a little crushed on the front-middle. The music selection on the soundtrack is much better, including more than just the opening and the execution theme. The artbook is still small, but it includes some rough sketches of the characters, and some item artwork in the back or something. Two Monokuma stickers are included, if that's your jam. The coin is nice, and it comes in a little case. My favorite thing, however, are the sunglasses. They're rad as gently caress and bet your rear end I'm wearing them in public.

I think I remember that being a problem, or at least a problem I had, with Dangan Ronpa 1.

|
|

Branching story? The story is almost completely linear, with the exception of a decision in a trial near the very end. Dangan Ronpa's prototype, on the other hand, was very non-linear. Maybe you're thinking of that?

Just beat the second chapter in DR2. Is it just a Dangan Ronpa tradition at this point for the second case to be super sad. Also "resurrect the Ultimate Despair?" That can't mean... ![]() This also probably means nothing at all, but The victims have killed in similar ways in both DR1&2 so far. Both first cases were stabbings, and both second cases were bludgeonings. It's prolly just a coincidence, unless case 3 is a double murder, and case 4 is a suicide. Then either some MGS2 poo poo is going on, or Spike ran out of ideas. Butt Ghost fucked around with this message at 02:35 on Sep 28, 2014 |

I picked DR2 up again. I'm on chapter 3. Why the gently caress doesn't Hajime think anything of finding Sonia locked in Hiyoko's room? I mean, this is the series where ONE PERSON thought to look at bloodied numbers upside down, but finding someone in the room of someone who just died with the door locked behind them isn't the least bit suspicious? I really wish there wasn't that locked door error earlier, because that colored my perception of the case. The entire time I was thinking Sonia told Ibuki to wait at Titty Typhoon for Hiyoko, kill her, then off herself. Then she went to Hiyoko's room and told her to go check out TT's mirror. But there's nothing in Hiyoko's room that Sonia would have needed to go back for, so I guess I shouldn't have assumed anything.

Mikan committing murder by not being in her right mind seems a bit cheap to me. What's the point of providing motives if you can just make someone believe they're Junko or some poo poo, then let them go hog wild? Also the murder time confusion and imitation murder bullshit seemed really pointless and made things needlessly complicated. Why did Mikan even need to hide Hiyoko? Hell, why even film the "live suicide?" Was that all just to create a motive? Am I just not wrapping my head around this correctly? Oh it's because the disease let her remember she's Junko's groupie or whatever. Better than just getting a murder disease I guess. Still, this all feels a bit convoluted. Holy poo poo Robomaru is fantastic, everything is forgiven. Butt Ghost fucked around with this message at 04:16 on Feb 1, 2015 |

So I finally beat DR2. I thought if payed off pretty well after not really getting hooked for the first three chapters. The ridiculousness just goes higher and higher until a giant digital Junko appears, revealing her plot to create Junkoland. Oh yeah, and there was the bit where Hajime hoped so hard he went super saiyan and deus ex machina'd the ending. Though I don't really understand why the future foundation would make their VR machine so dangerous to use. I'd go on about the logistics of it, but I could just say it's kinda dumb. Also did the thing about the killings here mirroring the killings at Hope's Peak go anywhere? Was that just a red herring?
