There clearly wasn't any timing. And I wasn't really going fast down the straights. So I guess I did poorly? (Like I care.)

Are you all using gloves on leather wheels? I've never felt the need to use them on anything other than alcantara. But I'm listening.

Maaaan. 255. I think I'm lucky if I can get 245 square without rolling. I only just got the car. So I'm running with what it has. Unknown pads (which held up well) and staggered PSSs. Most of the bushings are newish but OEM. And they feel a bit squidgy. I'm quite impressed with the performance/balance. It's really easy to drive. Considering this is as close as it gets to a 'new' E36 M3, I get why they're renowned. If it's this good bone freakin' stock, they're definitely a really nice platform. I have my eyes on some K1s and RS3s/Dunlop Z2s. Did you find your diff was holding you back at all that day? Thinking of an LSD? What city?

Ok, got no answers in the questions thread. What do people do when they want to monitor vitals (oil temp, oil press, water temp) on the track? I want cheap, easy to install, and mostely reliable. This is a civic track car. It can't be expensive.

BraveUlysses posted:awwwww yissssss Is there such thing as a non HANS compatible harness? I know some harnesses have thinner shoulder belts to make it more HANS friendly, but I've had no problem with normal sized belts with my HANS. I almost prefer them. Because I'm not wearing a HANS at autocross damnit.

I took the dumb Civic I bought last year to the Mosport DDT on the weekend. And holy hell is this brake bias fun. And this track is small enough that 120hp is not really an issue. RaceChrono said this was my fastest lap. Not perfect. But it was my first time there. And I was busy instructing most of the day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEThL3x_pZ4

TrueChaos posted:I'm getting a new helmet this year, and debating a HANS device. Going to reevaluate after the first track day. If you have a harness (which I think I remember you do) why not? 3pt + CG Lock or 5/6pt + HANS for me. I've never been in a 4pt that I liked more than the above two options. I'll take a 3pt + CG Lock over a 4pt every time.

Me dicking around a local-ish track with a dumb Civic with dumb brake bias. 1:47.91 and 1:48.27 on reallllly old street tires that were dug out of my basement the day before. (OG Rivals above the wear bars on the rear, and near slick Z1 star specs that sat for so long they were shiny in the front.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqCp-4dmQO4

Thanks guys. Foot camera is a really old Sony Cybershot P93 or something. Decent low light, low profile, and 480p recording. I stick it as close to the steering column as I can. There's usually some way using the contours of the under dash I can get it angled the right way. You can get an idea of it's shape here: I have a pedal box mount in all my cars using a DriftHD adhesive mount. Low profile tripod screw mount. https://www.amazon.com/Drift-30-003...S8TKS8AMRXQ2A88 Examples of my other layouts stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmdFf1pR_Mc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2baFdhb5Cg4 While data is useful, I find that watching where I'm looking, where I'm putting my hands, and what I'm doing with my feet very important. Hand discipline on the wheel is very important to me.

Gigi Galli posted:It's a lot less exciting in my opinion. I dunno if I agree with that. At autocross, no one really knows the layout. And you are generally improvising each run to get the car through things as fast as possible. Very transition heavy. Different elements coming at you all the time. You better know how to wheel your car and be insanely accurate right out of the gate if you want to be at the pointy end. I relate track driving to a choreography. Since after the 2nd track day, you're going to be making really small changes to your line and your inputs. Brake here, turn here, track out here, etc. Whereas autocross rewards more improvising and lots of fast movements. I feel like someone will learn more about car control from 10 autocrosses than they might from 2 track days. Which might cost the same. At autocross gently caress ups happen constantly. And everyone is experimenting and learning both the course and/or the car. Spins are fine, demolishing cones are fine, off courses are fine. But at the track, offs are pretty discouraged, spins will sometimes have you pulled off. Not to mention the speed at which you can have the offs/spins. So I feel like people stay within the safety envelope a bit more at track days. I average about 20 autocrosses a year and lately have averaged about 4-8 track days a year. These are my opinions. You might disagree with them. Larrymer posted:With autocross you get to bullshit with more car folk in a parking lot and get sunburned. And that.

I'm going to assume that the offtrack cut a tire on the left side. Probably the left rear. Hard to know what to do in that situation. Car wants to spin. Driver didn't want to spin.

Aw sheeit. I ignore SA for a few months and all of a sudden there are goons at my home track. (As lovely a home track as it is) I marshal and instruct there on and off during the summer. A good friend of mine works there mostly full time now as well. Drives a red Alfa. I recently had some free private time there recently and decided to practice a thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mH4ZncDy5-Y I haven't done that much lapping this year. Mostely co-driving other people's autocross cars and doing chumpcar. I'll probably be lapping way more once the E36 is done. Is hotlinking from Discord allowed? I've never preferred 4pts over CGLocked 3pts. Every time I try to do up a 4pt my waist belt is not as tight as I want to be since your shoulder belts will pull up on your waist belt. It doesn't help that most 4pts have pull down waist adjustment. And that just sucks to get tight. My CGLock gets so tight can bruise my hip bones. I'm not moving in my seat with one of those. I gain over an inch of headroom too lol.
