It's time to kick the tires and light the fires, Big Bird.

Yeah I'm really disappointed that they didn't find another cool artstyle for their unit cards like Shogun or Rome or Thrones did. I would have preferred if 3K had done something more creative too like ink wash or gongbi or whatever, but I kinda like what they ended up on anyway. Having the weapons, armor and/or horse highlight while leaving the person themselves as just a silhouette really made it easy to instantly tell exactly what their role was and how heavy they were.

That always bugged me in Attila. Rome 2 had these really great unit cards and then Attila was just like "gently caress it, screenshot of the in-game model I guess?"

Which also had a detrimental impact on gameplay because a lot of units were very similar looking.

I hated the style units they looked so ugly and I had trouble telling units apart

A screen cap of the unit portraits is all I need

Should be a togglable option, I way preferred the stylized cards. It's just more interesting.

Also from watching various videos, Hector will beat Achilles comfortably with around 50% hp remaining every time. Just to repeat that, in a one on one Hector beats Achilles

What are you, compared to my magnificence?

Stylized cards are best. The UI looks like a mobile game when it's just a cheap screenshot of the unit.

So from the blurb about further differentiating light, medium, and heavy infantry, as well as the new terrain types, it sounds like they're trying to recreate the combat dynamics of Total War Arena combat in Troy. I might actually loving buy this.

0.000% of Communism has been built.
Evil, child-murdering billionaires still rule the world with a shit eating grin.

All he has managed to do is make himself *sad*.

Instead of building communism, he now builds a precise model of this grotesque, duplicitous world.

Presumably if its remotely optimised we might get some fun overhauls out of it.

Does Achilles get to come back and say that Hector only beat a fake-rear end Achilles

Hector was a true hero fighting against that invincible cheater Achilles.

I think Troy was a pretty bad movie. But honestly, the casting was mostly on point.

drat, those previews are disappointing as hell. I just assumed they would use 3K as a base and was pretty excited for 3K in Ancient Greece. I don't think I can go back to a TW2 reskin after 3K.

Zerkovic takes a closer look at the units here. I like the visual style but I feel that the unit blocks look a bit too uniform for cultures that glorified the warrior-hero archetype.

If you slap together all the fight scenes in Troy, it's a great experience. I assume the rest of the movie also exists somewhere.

Honestly if they don't use the "Take it, it's yours!" line in marketing the free game on August 13th, then why even make the game about Troy?

why did ToB suck so much? I've tried playing it a few times and even finished a campaign but it just wasn't ever very fun but I can't put my finger on why.

Agean90

imo it's because the setting is loving Boring, which is a shame because I actually like the recruitment system and enjoy the fact that you have a lot of battles between small to medium sized armies and not just 20v20 brawls

it also really showed the difference between unit tiers since your elite units are actually rare and accordingly powerful. like in a siege a unit of elite swordman's will carve through levies really quickly if they can't get flanked.

Man the early 2000s were a great time if you liked watching armies of CGI dudes in various historical settings beat the poo poo out of each other. Everyone was trying to be Gladiator or Lord of the Rings and almost all of them (Troy, Alexander, King Arthur, Last Samurai, Kingdom of Heaven) were varying degrees of middling to bad, with the rare gem shining through (Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut)

Everyone wanted that sweet, sweet LotRs cash. But Troy at least has good 1v1 fight scenes. Simon Crane and Richard Ryan are really good for western fight choreographers.
