Phyrrus was the Frederick the Great of the age. He was a skilled general who took a backwater nation and gave it an advanced military and was able to play on the main stage with all the other powers. The Romans had to beat him by grinding him down with their superior economy and manpower as they could never achieve a conclusive battle against him.

Heavy armour was exceedingly rare among Germanic and Arab tribes at 200 CE. The Roman legions themselves were equipped from huge industrial centres and mining complexes that would mostly be abandoned through the 3rd century crisis and during the volkerwanderung.

They could do a lot more to make the battles interesting. Even ignoring the non-Han cultures, historically they were using chariots, elephants and camels during the 3K period.

Captain Beans posted:This will be very interesting to see how they go about accomplishing that. I think the only way is to give infantry more spell like abilities, things like smoke, formations and caltrops from 3k. Otherwise it is pretty boring to differentiate units just based on stats. They should also take a page out of TW:Area and steal that game's system for hoplite phalanx formations where they had a special fatigue bar in formation that decreased as they killed dudes and moved forwards, and recovered as they scooted backward. They've given us a few details so far: https://www.totalwar.com/blog/bartering-bronze-and-battles-troy-and-the-bronze-age/ quote:In TROY, we have tried to represent the full variety of weapons that we know existed at the time as well as make some unique functionality for units armed with the large Bronze Age shields. This allows them to sling the shields onto their backs and use their spears two-handed or to just move faster without those huge shields getting in the way.

Some new artwork has popped up on the TW forums: Left to right it's: Agamemnon (???), Odysseus (Archer), Menelaus (???), Achilles (Fighter) -> Hector (Defender), Sarpedon (???), Paris (Archer), Aeneas (???). The four classes are fighter, defender, archer and warlord. So I'm guessing Agamemnon and Aeneas are warlords, Menelaus is a defender and Sarpedon is a fighter.

https://twitch.tv/666878555 The new siege looks good coming from the Warhammer engine. The multiple layers of choke points look like they might just exacerbate the issue of actually defending the outer wall being a trap choice. The devs also mentioned that the seige tower horses are a unique thing for assaulting Troy and it sounds like you have to do missions on the campaign to be able to use them.
