MadScientistWorking posted:I thought the intention and theme of the Cloud cuckoo land was the fact that it was a mish mosh of discarded garbage that the father just gave to placate the kid. Even the main character from that land evoked the fact that she was just two separate Lego sets thrown together. Yeah, I was never personally satisfied with the others' opinions that "Cloudcuckooland was Fin's box of toys, so why did he have to mess up his Dad's stuff?" so I definitely see where you're coming from. At the same time, if part of the message of the movie is that you can do whatever crazy idea that comes to mind with LEGO, what is the problem with Unikitty being two separate sets thrown together? It's this kind of plurality (which, in the case of this movie, I don't necessarily see as contradictory) that is interesting to talk about in the movie.

Jared's point that the film is anti-business isn't quite right, it's against an 8-year-old's idea of what business is. Commerce is what takes his dad away and gets him frustrated, which is why Lord Business says all those grumpy old man things about trophies and whatnot. And the support of commercialism is because buying LEGO means happy playtime, hopefully with his dad. A lot of the alleged muddled-ness of movie is really straightened out when you look at it through Finn's eyes. (though it can also be a cop-out for criticism) And the punishment shots have gotten far more punishing over the course of this show. Nothing more American than this: http://imgur.com/a/GBr1K The air fresheners are the worst thing I've ever smelled, and a utensil kit for the grill I don't own is the perfect compliment to that movie I'll never see. As you can see there are 3 corncob holders, for your one-and-a-half ears of corn. Contests are fun!

Any chance you'll ever do Spring Breakers? I can't get enough of hearing people talk about that movie. I know you like it but I'm kind of curious what Jared would think of it. I can't remember if I've ever made an official request on the website or not.

Man, I'd really love to do Spring Breakers, and I'm curious what he would think of it too. Anymore, I really try to stop hyping up movies because Jared can get curmudgeonly when people do that, but I definitely wouldn't mind trying it. Usually, it takes a pretty good reason to get us to do a movie I've already done a writeup for (and Spring Breakers was my very first Fresh Pour). SCHEDULE UPDATE: We might replace Sleuth with a different movie if we get to do a live episode at Wizard World Chicago, and Nathan Rabin (the author of Weird Al: The Book) is definitely good to go for our UHF episode.

I unabashedly love Dune to the fact that I remember staying up really, really late a couple times while spending the night at a friend's house to catch the 3+ hour version of the film. I know I've seen a version with the sandworm drowning. Hewlett, I haven't forgotten about my promise to write up a rebuttal to your "negative" review of The Black Hole. I've just been pretty swamped with work. Once it is done, you can laugh on air about my sperging out over that film.

I do still have an unabashed love for the crazy risks the movie takes, I just still think it's pretty boring until the big red robot kills Norman Bates. I'm also contemplating a Twitter poll to see which version of Dune people want us to see - we'll just watch the theatrical cut unless we get enough votes/RTs to justify watching the extended cut.

Oh wow, really looking forward to Dune (I hope you're going for the hyper-long extended edition, with the ten-minute "how to ride the worm" scene!), War Games and UHF. Horror October is going to be a wild ride, though I am slightly disappointed you're not going to be covering Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth, aka one of the goofiest, most 90s horror movies ever made.

Slice of life: So we're a no-go for the CFCA . Basically, by virtue of the drinking games gimmick, they can't really let us join, as it's "not the kind of serious-minded film criticism we're looking for." Apart from that, he just had a couple notes about editing my writeups a bit/cutting out redundancies in my writing (feedback I was genuinely thankful for), and just said we cover a lot of older titles (which is the podcast in general, but doesn't apply to my new releases writing). He heavily encouraged me to apply again, but I got the impression that Alcohollywood, by sheer virtue of its concept, would never make it into the CFCA.

You fuckers, I watched Clifford before listening to your podcast about it. That Dinosaur World scene is gonna give me some nightmares. Also I was expecting that the camera was going to pan out, and the world would have some smoking craters with Clifford's name in them or something, because that was the only thing that would have felt like it followed from what happened before.

Take a listen for some dramatic readings off the top by yours truly, some discussion as to the thought process behind the naming of evil corporations, and the idea that LL Cook J knows he's in a killer shark movie.

Nathan Rabin joins us again to talk UHF, since he literally wrote the book on Weird Al. Another casual conversation, as usual, but we get into a tangent involving George Newman plagiarizing Weird Al Yankovic that one commenter has already called "Flop House-worthy," so I'll take it as a compliment. Sidenote: It's a really weird (read: awesome) feeling to have someone you're a big fan of be a big fan of yours as well.

Apparently Copycat is an "LGBT" movie, or at least Google says so. I'm not sure how, seeing as there's just one random gay best friend in it who doesn't do anything gay and he gets killed in a way that isn't properly Dahmeresque. That episode on Halloween III was excellent. I was chortling and snortling and all the rest of it at the ludicrousness of the halloween masks and that bloody silver shamrock jingle, as well as the reappearance of Some Kind of Goblin.

You should make the guy who does Some Kind of Goblin a permanent member of the cast and never do anything with the guy who does Some Manner of Detective again.
