Also, we dropped some Mad Hintz on the new game. Somebody put up a fairly comprehensive set of information rounding up all the Hintz we have distributed so far.

The last public beta we ran over here for Dredmor went very, *very*, well, so we will probably end up running a combined public beta for Odin here and on our own forums. But that's a ways away.

Thanks! We appreciate it - and it's nice to know we're actually improving things instead of just dumping more bullshit in. :-)

Yes, the Lutefisk exploit has been closed off for about nine months or something now.

Is Digglelands going to add a lot to the main game or will most of the new content be in the new areas?

Most of the Wizardlands content is in the main game. You get six new monster types threaded throughout the game, some new items, six new skill lines (there were originally going to be eight, but we put two back in the core game as freebies), the new Encrusting system, and the pocket dimension (now still also in the core game as a freebie.) Oh, and minibosses.

There seem to have been some backwards compatibility problems with save games and mods with this patch. I'm looking into this now to see if we can do anything, but the huge save-game rewrite that we did makes the conversion process really quite iffy.

TL;DR: It's a good time to buy the expansion (once it goes up) and start a new game. :D

Also what is the funny blue spiky icon in the encrusting menu meant to represent? It is -5 of it for blister pack encrustation if I remember right.

There are actually fewer daggers and polearms than other weapons in the game right now; I think this is just reflective of the fact that we're playing catch-up. I'm sure a few more will sneak in, and possibly crafting recipes with them.

That said, I don't mind that particular mechanic: those two weapons leaning towards being purchases or something. Humm.

The funny blue spiky icon is "instability." The more instability a crusted weapon has, the worse your life will get.

The tourist tree should be a national treasure.

Oh, whatever, we basically stole it from Nethack. (Yes, even the camera.)

For the guy who asked if we're basically eating our own legs at this point: no, we're fine. Gaslamp's basically doubled in size - we have a total of 14 partners, employees, and contractors working for us right now in various capacities, including a full time 3D Art Squad. We've very nearly outgrown our office again, which is annoying and I have no idea what we'll do about that. Project Odin is getting announced very, VERY soon - at which point we can stop running under the radar like some sort of spy sub and start talking about the next game, which is... well, it's something very near and dear to the hearts of people on this forum. We got the video game rights to Breakfast Duck. It's going to be full of p-p-p-PEP!

So that's exciting.

I'm glad people are enjoying the expansion pack, though. Most of the programming work is not due to me; instead, it was done by the talented Chris Whitman, formerly of Tiny Speck (but who also makes Art Games), and Ryan C. Gordon, better known as icculus, the guy who ports everything to Linux and OS X for people. (I think we're the only place he does original development, which is totally odd.) I just pitched in for the last week or so getting stuff cleaned up and running in the usual panic to get things done. It's really weird seeing a Dredmor release out that I'm not intimately involved with, but I've been busy on Odin.

We'll try to have the last few glitches and unpleasantnesses sorted out by next week or so, and I think there will be One Last Grand Patch after this to try and deal with a few things we want to do like Total Conversion Support and translation support (and fixing some of the nonsense that's been broken for ages, like the lucky pick stuff being just awful) But who knows? I wasn't expecting us to end up in the Steam Top 10 today, so there's clearly a lot of reasons for us to keep Dredmor as happy and healthy as we can. It's nice not having to gnaw off your own legs; that way, we can save them for the lean winter ahead...
