Was it in Deliverance Lost where they have Alpharius hanging out with a Cabal alien that he puts out an airlock because he decides he doesn't like the Help Horus Kill Everyone plan and prefers to make his Alpha marines stronger using the secret genetic stuff taken from the Emperor's lab? Didn't really feel like the same Alpharius from Legion to me. I guess hanging around Horus a whole bunch probably had some detrimental effects. In said novel, it's mentioned his specific gene sequence and advanced processes were used in creating a Grey Knight, I believe. They are also brought to the Emperor himself and attuned to his psychic frequency. Read that is was also something that astropaths go through that usually blinds them among other side effects including agonizing death.

What always stuck with me is that scene in LEGION with John Grammaticus. He doesn't say what he physically saw but that the Emperor and him having a little 'immortal psychics' bro moment makes me think he has a better view of what is behind the psychic mask the Emperor puts up. "Bloodthirsty" was the impression he came away with, wasn't it?

William Bear posted:My favorite "Alpha Legion is so mysterious!" moment is in Legion, when an Alpha Legion marine introduces himself as Alpharius, and a character asks if he's really Alpharius or if he's just saying that. My favorite is from Deliverance Lost or all places, it had one shining moment. An Alpha legionnaire infiltrated into the Raven Guard gets the signal to bug out and rally but has two loyalists nearby to deal with. He kicks one in the back of the knee and slices his throat. He primes a grenade, tells the other below him, "Here, take this." and chucks it down where the other marine catches it and has just a moment to realize what just happened. Need more of that in any book with Alpha Legion in it.

Maybe by giving the Primarchs large parts of himself he left himself his bloodthirstiness. Either by need or design in order to do what it took to take over a galaxy.

After watching a theory video on a 'what if' the Horus heresy traitor legions swapped around with loyalist legion counterparts I'd love it if somehow the Space wolves went traitor and the World eaters were loyalist. Would mean Angron dies or ends up in some kind of stasis like Ghouliman though.

Rereading through Age of Darkness again and the only things of value is ADB's story 'Savage Weapons' and Dan Abnett's 'Little Horus'. Really memorable moments and emotional impacts. The first story 'Rules of Engagement' is just sooooo many words for "Ghoulyman isn't perfect but everyone refuses to believe him and his codex are flawed in anyway lol. All I really want is Gav Thorpe to have a new book with primaris stuff just to callback to a scene from Deliverance Lost and have an Alpha infiltrator yell to a Primaris to "hold on to this" and toss him a primed grenade but instead of falling for the hot potato like a normie astartes idiot, have the primaris immediately punt it back at him. Like poetry, it rhymes.
