I found these in an old magazine. These things were everywhere (until downloadable ringtones arrived), advertised on TV even. You had to sign up to an expensive subscription service and then get one per week or whatever.

I spoilered them for mild NSFW, since apparently Snoopy rape was one of the hottest trends of the time.

definitely preferred the keys on the 51xx though, the ones on the 61xx series had this weird rubbery coating that just didnt sit right with me. gotta say though they had a satisfying clicky press to them

Oh, man. I remember those logos, but using them seemed opaque to me. Plus so few of them were available for free (at least without sniffing around for cracked versions). It was all I could do to translate MIDIs into Nokia's weird encoding scheme for ringtones. I remember having FFVII's Gold Saucer theme and the Bubble Bobble theme. :3:

In my experience, because PS/2 devices aren't hot pluggable, they suck if your KVM is unreliable (if the KVM is restarted, every machine needs to be) or your cables are prone to falling out. Are they just better because KVMs that support USB tend to be more complex and therefore buggy?

cheap KVM mostly suck from my experience but enterprise stuff is really good these days, and have a lot of weird use cases like 4 usb ports to power 4 computers with like 16 monitors and scroll from one computer to the other with one mouse and keyboard

How was the ESP on them? The last portable CD player I owned was an iRiver that played Mp3's off the cd, it had pretty good buffering but still couldn't keep up if I tried to jog with it.

Dankpods is awesome. Even his phony voice.

I watched the full 73 minute version of the Techmoan MiniDisc unboxing extravaganza. My favourite part of YouTube is being able to live vicariously through people like him, because spending over £300 importing a box of MiniDisc players from Japan is exactly the sort of thing I have an impulse to do, and it's so much easier just to watch someone else slowly realise they just wasted a lot of money on a lot of useless crap. For the same reason I love those videos where people buy pallets of Amazon returns. Watching them dejectedly removing an unbranded, damaged box universal remote and tossing it into the pile with the others is [that chefs kiss emoticon]

One of my friends is involved in the returns/clearance business from the seller side, and I don't understand how buyers are dumb enough to keep falling for it. They think if they buy just one more pallet of literal garbage then they'll break their losing stream and get that mythical pallet full of mint condition ipads.

PS/2 is interrupt-based whereas USB is based on polling, so PS/2 could potentially have better latency.
PS/2 supports full N-key rollover, but with USB this can only be emulated, sometimes by having the keyboard appear as multiple devices, which can cause issues.
USB on the other hand supports hot-plugging, which PS/2 can't, and USB connectors are more robust than PS/2.
Professional gamers think that the PS/2 advantages aren't worth the hassle.

I think they're the facts he covered. If you want the facts plus sound effects and an absurd amount of enthusiasm, watch the video.

ive been trying to get simcity 4 to work but i cant type ingame, although parts of the keyboard do work, like the arrow keys. i think it might actually be because my keyboard is emulated as a series of devices instead of just one and some old games apparently have trouble with that, so i guess thats a reason you might want to use ps/2 still

I used a Model M via PS/2-to-USB adapter on a Windows 7 and later this Windows 10 box, but whenever I used more than one key at a time the sound would "snap" which made playing computer video games kind of poo poo. I switched to a real USB keyboard and haven't had any problems since. Frankly that makes no sense to me but :iiam:

Asked for a 10GB third gen ipod for my birthday in 2003, received this

It was... okay? I got a hand me down discman for a birthday in 2000 and this thing was technically a step up from that in that it supported mp3 CDs, but around the same time my home life fell apart and the family computer with the CD burner + my mp3 collection got sold off so by the time I finally got to gently caress around with burned discs a year and a half later it was embarrassingly obsolete.

At least it had good skip protection so I could walk around town clutching it in one hand listening to Dream Theater without it cutting out every ten seconds, unlike the piece of poo poo it replaced.
