Links 386 was always this weird aspirational game for me. The only machines I had at the time were a green-screen 8086 (a Televideo all-in-one, monitor built into the case, faaancy) and my C64, and I remember seeing ads for Links 386 and thinking gently caress that looks cool

Even thinking about it now makes me all nostalgic

Look at those fuckin' graphics :aaa:

I believe Microsoft Golf 1 and 2 are basically windows ports of Links 386, so I can only agree.

MS Golf 1 was mostly developed by Access using the work they’d done on Links

I designed the product icon as one of my first projects at Microsoft in 1992

So not quite a port, but also still closely related. I'll take that. :)

And huh, small world. I'm afraid I can't honestly say I remember what the icon looked like - it has been a little while.

For me, the only golf game was a shareware copy of Jack Nicklaus' Unlimited Golf and Course Design...I must have wasted so many hours playing the same 3 holes over and over again. The grid showing how the green breaks...so futuristic! :vince:

No, that would be me trying to get a 1997 Mac game working on a Windows PC in 2005, I think. I can't read the date on this old screenshot I pulled off my old Photobucket account.

What was the golf game with the player said, "Be the ball." though can't recall if it was for driving or putting.
Think I played it on a 286 or 386 PC last century.

Good point with Vista. I also see some Fallout icons on the desktop, I first got into the series with Fallout 3 which came out in 2008.

My family had Intellisvision and Coleco back in the day. When the NES came out my dad was unimpressed, saying they were still just "Coleco graphics." We have used that phrase to describe every game up through GTAV :laffo:

Where are you looking? There are lots of competent laptops like this...

My partner has an Acer Swift 5 14" laptop which is honestly so light it feels like they've forgotten to put the PC in the laptop case. It's like 960g and has a touchscreen and 2 M2 slots in it :eyepop:

(Admittedly 14" instead of 13" in this case, but it's insane)

Yeah I think you only see eMMC storage on the veeerrry garbage tier laptops paired with like those godawful Celeratoms. Even my $250 brand new 2014 rear end Acer Chromebook C720P has a proper M.2 SSD.
