How is that easier than just copying the link?

Because image-based sharing apps have exploded and the easiest way to attach images to those apps is to just upload them like they were another photo taken with the phone/device.

Also people are generally just saving images to their devices and don't have the original links anymore, so they distribute it from their device, someone else receives the image directly sans link, saves it to their device, and the cycle continues.

No no, you see apple is doing it for aesthetic reasons only (so that the card looks good), not for security or other modernization efforts

In the 1950s, people worried a lot. (I wonder why?) One of the things they worried about was that watching TV in a dark room would cause eyestrain. The solution? The TV lamp. It sat on the top of the TV and cast a dim glow on the wall behind it; this supposedly protected your eyes by lowering the contrast between the bright TV and the room, without making it harder to see the TV.

There were many options, in pottery, plaster, and fiberglass.

Mount Rushmore

Sailboat

Owl (note light-up eyes!)

Water mill with planter

A couple of other anti-eyestrain solutions I remember: a publisher all of whose books were on pale-green paper, again to diminish contrast, and special reading floor lamps that featured one upright lamp to light the whole room and one to be angled so that the light came over your left shoulder. I remember having the illumination come over your left shoulder -- not the right, who knows why -- being a big deal.

Wow, that might explain a couple weird old lamps I found at my grandparents’ house when we were cleaning it out. They had one very similar to that owl one and it seemed completely useless

Horrible flashbacks for me. 8.0 is definitely a touch-OS and putting it on a non-touch laptop was similar to getting Doom running on a printer: technically possible, but you shouldn't do it except for bragging rights.

Amongst many, many other things, some of the native apps simply require a touch screen to work. A common occurrance was getting something fullscreen and not being able to exit out of it. And not weird stuff: the default Photos and pdf reader apps did that. Try swiping down with a mouse - it's surprising difficult.

And for Reasons, we were stuck with 8.0 for FIVE YEARS. Which meant we went all the way through the free 10 upgrade period and still used that piece of hot garbage.

Wasn't there a free update to 8.1 at least?

But the dual shock is just an SNES controller with two sticks badly bolted on, if anyone is copying anyone it's not Nintendo. Which kinda brings it back around to everyone copying those "phone keypads with a joystick" controllers. No one has done anything but copy Nintendo controller wise since the NES came out. The Genesis/Mega Drive is basically just an NES controller with a third button awkwardly added on the end. And the the SNES "perfected" the design with the diamond face buttons and triggers. Everything since then has just been a debate over the shape of the handles. Xbox controllers? SNES design. Steam controller? SNES design but oh look the Dpad is a lovely touch pad now! The Switch? An SNES controller you can attach to either side of an iPad. Ironically Nintendo is the only group that ever tried to do something besides the SNES controller. The N64 is an awkward attempt to be multiple controller at once, and the Wiimote is self apparent, but even those were abandoned pretty fast.

Didn’t Sony do the analog stick and rumble features well before Nintendo attempted them with the N64? Those features were a pretty big deal.

“Bolting on analog sticks” seems obvious now, but at the time it was pretty unique/

Back in the day, I had an alarm clock radio.

You had a choice of a really obnoxious buzzer, or live radio. Naturally, I chose the radio.

Except after only a few weeks of use, I realised that morning radio was so facile that i couldn't stand hearing another jingle or a single word from the mouth of the presenter, so I retuned it and started waking up to the sound of static.

This is literally exactly what I did, everything you said here. Nothing like a shot of terrifying static to get you up and ready for the day. Mostly I just wake up at the time I need to now on my own and I rarely hear the terrifying cacophony. must be getting old or just extremely averse to hearing it.
