The Revenant has always been a decent gun if you have accuracy bonuses. Before the Destroyer, that was Turian Soldiers and Geth in Hunter Mode, neither of which are really designed to be bullet hoses. Turians soldiers should have worked that way, but with no dodge, medium shields, and stagger powers that get in the way of using your accuracy bonus, they weren't very good at it.

With the Destroyer, people can finally use the Revenant in a competent way, letting the damage shine through. Plus it's fun to spray literally thousands of bullets into things.

I had a weird issue with my Demolisher on Reactor last night.

The game started and none of my powers, nor the consumables, had the pictures on that tell you what they are - instead it was just a picture that looked a little bit like a wifi antenna signal (?). My powers still worked, but the left and right bumpers were swapped. I couldn't see how many grenades I had, but I was counting as I threw and I seemed to be able to toss up to 10 before I ran out (I'm specced for 6 and I wasn't standing on the pylon or an ammo box).

Later I was grabbed by a phantom just as I was firing a grenade at her, and it went off and killed her. But the insta-kill animation didn't stop; I died but was instantly ressurected up in the rafters as a now invincible grenade throwing maniac. I was able to set up my pylon, though I couldn't see it, so I never ran out of ammo or grenades. Lots of things died. After my squad wiped, though, all the enemies pooled directly underneath me where I couldn't hit them The leader had to quit and restart the wave (which made everything work again).

So after some minor tweaks and experimentation, zxqv8 and I have come up with a pretty good setting for Huskocalypse matches. Payouts are, of course, zero... But xp is still full value.

The settings are:
- 120 maximum enemies active at any given time
- Up to 30 enemies can spawn at once per spawn point
- Husk spawn value reduced from 10pts to 7 pts (more Husks per wave)
- Waves 1,2,4,5,7,8,9,11: all Husks
- Objective waves: add Brutes to Husks in same proportion to normal wave values

This was tuned for 2 players on Silver. With the increased per-wave budgets on Gold, it should still hold up well but may require a bit of tweaking. We did a couple matches; the last one with these settings was on Dagger and it was pretty nuts. With a Paladin and a Slayer, it took us 28 minutes to clear, and there was not really any downtime except between waves. A few spots got choppy when lots of Husks met a red-mist demise.

Just treat it like a pistol version of the Valiant/Black Widow. Since you have it at such a high level, you can pretty much use it on any class that needs their cooldowns at 150%+. I like putting a magazine mod on it though, since 3 shots per mag is a few shots too little I find.

Played a few games this morning with the new and improved Krogan Battlemaster, didn't seem to notice much of a difference in terms of overall power. It's always nice to have more melee damage, though. I might respec to 3/3 melee evolutions in Rage and compensate for the lost shields with Juggernaut Shield over Berserker Package or something. I estimate that most of my damage is coming from melee now, anyway.

Take care

I'm not sure if it's the update or if I'm just getting more comfortable with the class, but Krogan Battlemasters seem stupidly powerful now.

I'm not the most experienced player, and I usually struggle through silver difficulty, usually with my Turian sentinel. This morning I decided to give the Krogan Vanguard a try, as I recendly unlocked him and hadn't used him much. I've been breezing through silver matches since.

I don't even have to take cover or think things out. All you have to do is keep biotic charging every enemy you see, and as long as you use a heavy pistol w/piercing mod on guardians, and make sure brutes don't auto-kill you, you never die. I went through two full games recklessly bio charging everything I saw, and only fell unconscious once. It's ridiculous.

Battlemasters have always been awesome. It's not too much of a step up in difficulty to take your Kroguard into Gold. If it helps, you can start out with a more defensive spec and then transition into melee as you get more comfortable. The only things that can really kill you are OHK bosses, which are avoidable by learning their attack patterns, and the Vanguard bug, which is avoidable by hosting. Geth is pretty much a guaranteed win.

Kroguards have always been a class of choice for learning a new difficulty. Eventually you'll get comfortable and want a class with more raw damage-dealing but he's very, very safe to play.

If you want to try a class that's totally changed by the Vanguard buffs, try the Slayer. Play him like a reverse Novaguard where the formula is blast then charge. Phase Disruptor is an even more reliable stagger than Nova, and your Slash/Sword fringe benefits are way more useful than the Novaguard's Shockwave/Melee.

The vanguards won't die because ABC and the other two can survive on their own until they can communicate to their vanguards to return.

Insta kills are the bane of the vanguards, but with enough BEs and some luck, the banshees will target the Adepts leaving the vanguards to commence the staggering.

Phase Disruptor has seemed kinda weak to me when I tried it (granted, that was on gold), and he's super fragile--how do I play this guy? Should I still be maxing Biotic Slash post-nerf? should I bother speccing for melee and relying on teleport sword slashes?

I play it without biotic slash. I find it slow and clunky and my Slayer playstyle is very fast paced. This is my build. I typically carry a Talon. You may also want to go weapon weight in the last of the Slayer passive. PD is basically a ranged nova and specced for shield damage will tear through most enemies. Phase disruptor does splash damage and should be fired at floors and walls and can get enemies behind cover when aimed right. It's not a boss killer, it will do good damage but your job should be taking down infantry. PD first, charge to refill it and stagger enemies, shoot your gun when you can't do either. Once you get a feel for it there's a rhythm but it's situational.

I'm sure other people will come by with a biotic slash build but I really hate it so I'll leave it to them.

I could see them doing another enemy type after the DLC drops, which will probably feature that new enemy. Right now there isn't much they can do without loving the story since nothing besides Reapers, Geth and Cerberus have been encountered in singleplayer.

I guess they could do variations on the existing enemies. Atlases with swords?

Max out Charge and PD, blast dudes 2-3 times, charge to refill your barrier, repeat. You can use the rest of your points to buff up either Slash or Fitness depending on which you'll use more. I prefer Slash since I don't stay in close quarters as much (after I charge I'll usually backflip away and continue blasting). Plus the Slayer has really fiddly melee tracking.

The nice thing about Phase Disruptor is that it's a pure hitscan power with infinite range and no Phantom blocking. London is usually bad news for Vanguards but when I played the Slayer I could just snipe from the top with everyone else, lock down both ramps with Slashes, and still beast with Charge when enemies finally made it up top or an objective forced us down.

This is true.
I haven't played this game in forever, and so I played mostly Bronze and Silver games to get the hang of it back, and when I first ventured in Gold, I did so with my Kroguard.
On Glacier.
Against Reapers.
Thank god that I was teamed up with very good players: I would Charge into the middle of a group of mooks or into enemies trying to flank (Ravagers in primis) and allowed them to focus fire on Brutes and Banshees, something that they did extremely well, and the insane survivability of the Kroguard allowed me to take a lot of punishment. It did help that my cooldown was low, so I could Charge, melee twice and Charge again and always keep my shields up thanks to heavy melee and Barrier DR.

I'm a huge Talon fan but I actually run my slayer with the Tempest. The Talon would be fine as well but I wouldn't bother scoping it. You have phase disruptor for sniping. You only use your gun for finishing off nearly dead trash post charge and for Guardians. Any close range weapon that keeps your cooldown high will work though. If you have a Hurricane you could go with that and a Talon with ultralight and piercing on both.

LogicNinja posted:

Take efficient shot and shot twice before charging to refill. Efficient shot will leave you with some shields left so you'll have the shield gate to protect you while you line up the shot. I also run with 3 fitness but I use the Stronghold gear to compensate.

I'm just going to quote myself again because I already did a big post about the Slayer.

I actually find it's super-distracting to carry multiple guns on a power-heavy class like the Slayer. I tried running the N7 Fury using the ULM trick with a Paladin and Hurricane, but having three powers + two weapons just sort of opened up too many possibilities for my feeble brain to keep track of and still play fast enough for Gold.

The only time I carry a secondary gun is (1) sniper characters (2) pure passive/grenade characters

Yeah that's fair, but running two guns gives you a chance to figure out which one works best for you. I do generally agree with you which is a large part of why I can't get behind the acolyte. That gun pretty much requires you to bring along a second weapon.

The only class I use the Acolyte for is the N7 Shadow since you don't really need a proper gun and the charge+strike trick decimates Cerberus and Geth. The Acolyte is actually not that efficient for stripping shields because you have to count the time you spend switching guns, charging the shot, and switching back. Unless your main weapon is incredibly lovely you're almost always better off just shooting more regular bullets.
