edit: About Wayne taking drugs, the weird thing is that (as far as I know) he's said that he took acid when he was young but that for the 80s-90s era of "weird" Lips albums, all he did was drink. I think that's even something he said in Fearless Freaks? Something about drinking Jack Daniels and smoking and not eating.

Yeah it's weird to think that he's been generally sober for most of their career and it's only now that he's older he's experimenting. I remember him saying on twitter that his wife got him ecstasy for his 50th birthday and Steven was like "Oh, you're finally trying it?" You'd think a guy as weird and love obsessed as him would have tried it before then.

I can confirm this, as I was there. It was my first Lips show and god it was an incredible experience. The best part was at the beginning when Wayne yelled "gently caress the rain!" and then on cue it started pouring down. He must be a wizard or something.

I saw them do one of their shows with Weezer during what was nearly a monsoon and it would have been a loving amazing experience if only Weezer hadn't been there. The rain and lightning just got heavier and heavier as one of their songs just got more and more intense, it was like they were wizards calling the storm!

And then Weezer came back on and my buzz was killed. Though Weezer fans were the true worst part of the show. Bunch of Long Island bros who just wanted to hear Hash Pipe and The Sweater song a million times and then go home, they had no respect for the Lips.

I have no idea why on earth you thing there must be something more. You could always just ask him. That's kind of how twitter works. It's really just him making GBS threads on Foo Fighters though cause they're not good. Ask him about Pink Floyd's The Wall if you wanna hear some of his other vitriolic opinions on music.

I'm not telling the band what to play or what not to play, I'm just saying I don't like their recent setlists.

Most bands I see don't play their "biggest hits" though, they tend to just play stuff off their last album or two. Like, Mogwai isn't still playing "Like Herod" and I am totally fine with that.

At least the Lips stopped playing "She Don't Use Jelly", I guess (and I say that as someone who loves that song).

Personally I'm pretty glad the Lips play as far back into their catalog as they do. Soft Bulletin to now is 13 years worth of music. It'd be cool if they dug deeper but it's better than if they only played the last album or two.

Surfingelectrode, does any sort of physical release or download exist for the Atlas Eets Christmas stuff? I recall hearing Drozd say in a recent interview that they were aware of the setlist gripes, and that they were planning to do smaller shows focused on older/rare material. I hope they follow up on that idea.

I don't know if it's a recent trend but a lot of the bands I really like who've been around a while have been doing album anniversary tours and shows lately and it'd be so sick if the Lips did something like that for Clouds or Transmissions.

I saw part of the Reflections tour the Cure did where they played the first 3 albums in their entirety last year and that was an amazing experience. I also went to the Dinosaur Jr You're Living All Over Me 25th Anniversary show at the beginning of the month, they played through the whole album and then played a bunch of their concert staples and had tons of guest performers from Sonic Youth and the Pixies and a bunch of other bands. As someone who was born in '89 and only started really going to shows 4 years ago these type of shows end up being the best way for me to see these older songs getting performed.

Which one I listen to depends on how surprised I want to be as I listen. Sometimes I just get bored when I know what the next song is going to be.

I don't get people who just buy single songs, but then I don't buy digital downloads at all, I'm one of those people who still buys CDs. It hurts my OCD when a song like Sun Blows Up comes out that's only available as a single song download.
