I do miss my R32 GTR a bit despite it being rough at the edges compared to my R34 GTT. It is a shame that finding a clean one is so hard now as most of them have been messed with or are just in bad shape.

Just make sure he has the engine checked out (what sounds like tappets maybe the bottom end) and if it does need a refresh then get a crank from a 1993 or later RB26 since it is stronger than the earlier ones. I am tempted to call a few people back in the UK to find a nice R32 and get it over to the US now I can.

Real answer, the US has not been able to get them for years due to import restrictions and now people are going mad for them. I am interested to see how it jacks up R34 prices in a few years since those are still about $45k right now. I expect the prices to go down again in time since there are tons of R32s about ,they made about 43k of them, however R33 and R34 production numbers were a decent chunk lower. Also the R33 GTR is viewed to be a bit :mediocre: while the R34 is :perfect: so it is all a crapshoot.

If you seriously want a R32 GTR I would give it a few years and get a 93 model year car as it will have the improved crank that has a bit more meat on it unless you are going to get the block rebuilt then just make sure a 93 prec crank goes in.

Smaller capacity engines with turbos are crap on fuel if you rag them everywhere. If you are just trundling along and not spooling the turbo up then they are great. Same thing with turbo diesels which always amuse me when people drive them like they stole them and wonder why their fuel costs are higher than their old petrol car.

VVV That is good to know about modern turbo engines. It makes more sense than just throwing a snail on it so you can quote higher power figures at the top end.

Correct. In MA the tax is $1000 which is the same as paying for the 8 speed upgrade so it works out that no matter if you choose a manual or an auto the price is the same.

With the wording of #5 it sound more like ejected passengers being squashed by the car they were thrown from, how does thicker pillars help there?

Unless it means the mass of the overturned vehicle crushes the occupants against the ground(via the roof)?

The latter, car pillars used to not be able to support the weight of the car when rolled over so they would flatten and crush the occupants. Now they need to be able to support the weight and be strong enough to not distort in a crash so the passenger cabin remains the same size. Minaly to stop things like the 106/Saxo where if you had a front end crash the engine would be pushed past the firewall into the lap of those in the front.

When I used to do Track Days back home and the RS Owners club were going to be there I used to make sure my track time was before them so I could get my fun in before I had to dodge all the pools of oils at the apex they would inevitably leak. I mean they are cool in a 80's kind of way but I wouldn't go through the hassle of importing something you might as well get something that will have seen less hedges.

As for switching the side of the road you drive on, I have done it so often now that it is not an issue. When I passed my drivers test at 17 (first time, look at me fighting the statistics) I almost immediately started going on road trips in continental Europe so got used to swapping. Now if you have never done it and you have been driving the same side for decades then yeah it will be a bit of an adjustment like my old man when he rented a car in Ibiza and went around knocking off car mirrors for 2 hours before dropping it back to the rental place before he killed himself.

i've often wondered how much of an r32 GT-R drivetrain would fit into an AMC eagle.

It should fit but it depends if you want the 4WD system or not. The RB25 out of a R33 GTST or R34 GTT (not an R32 GTST as that is an RB20 and a bit gutless) with the standard box should slot into anything that is RWD.

Edit: While there are places in the US who will sell you a JDM engine including an RB25/RB26 I am not sure if the thing is road legal as I can't find anything about that engine being sold in the US so it doesn't have type approval. You might be able to drop it into something that is old enough to not have to worry about smog in some states. Why does this have to be so hard?
