I got into driving later in my life than most (I was 29) and my first car was a 95 Corolla in 2009. I got the car for $1800 (180k miles) and it was so junky but I loved it anyway. The horn was messed up so it was an extremely loud buzzer rather than a regular honk sound, and as I drove it sounded like there was a bowling ball rolling around in the trunk, even though it was empty. When I had mine it was already pretty rare to see one on the road but now I only see one from that generation about once a year. GutBomb fucked around with this message at 16:33 on Feb 21, 2021 |

I love having a heater core that I can never turn off. I actually know what it's like because I have an NA miata whose heater core is part of the cooling system from the factory.

I don't know a ton of details, but near home a couple weeks ago, there was a big rear end barn fire. From what I've seen and heard, there were bunch of boats, old cars and race cars being stored, worked on or otherwise being housed there. Bummer. https://www.niagaranow.com/news.phtml/5118-blaze-tears-through-notl-facility-on-townline-road Time to pour out a quart of 40w for the fallen.

Good reason to prohibit people working on their cars in the storage barns. I just put my bike in temporary storage at [undisclosed location] since my close/close dates on the house I'm selling & house I'm buying are misaligned by a few weeks out of my favor. I'd imagine this place has a functioning fire suppression system, at least. But drat.

So my 1st gen Mazdaspeed 3 coolant tank has sprung a leak and it turns out this is a fairly common failure. I've ordered a replacement aluminum coolant tank and went ahead and impulse bought the aluminum power steering reservoir to go along with it. Quickly looking up videos to see if there are any "gotchas" on replacing the coolant reservoir, I found this incredibly smooth-brained fellow from my home state of Texas. He literally drains his coolant onto his driveway, down into the gutter-- and I hate everything. Timestamp of 2:35 because I had to go back and rewatch it to see if it was a mistake or accident. And no, it wasn't. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pH9nnCnmSY0&t=155s

Granted it was mostly water since it was leaking anyway and i kept topping it up with water but still.....And even while doing it i realized that it was a terrible idea. No idea why i did it. Just a brainfart i guess. At least i didn't make a Youtube Video about it!

https://twitter.com/ConStrawmen/status/1365879565072097280?s=20 I'm concerned about what American churches teach about Jesus or is this simply a too stupid to understand what's being taught at church deal?

I have memories of sitting in a church a few years ago for a first communion and the priest is explaining the importance and symbolism of communion and REALLY thickly laying on how it's about our duty to share our wealth with others and it's a requirement, not an option and hey you I'm talking to you pay attention to me up here! And everyone is just glass eyed and not paying attention. Christians in America literally think the requirement is "show up and sing" without actually doing *gestures wildly at everything else* At least that church tries. Evangelical churches openly praise Supply Side Jesus. KillHour fucked around with this message at 15:12 on Mar 1, 2021 |

The way Christianity was taught at my protestant church was that everyone who wasn't that specific brand of Christian was hosed and going to hell forever. Young me quickly decided that a nuclear war killing everyone on earth would be the best option to prevent more people from being born and being doomed to hell. I've been to other churches for various reasons and they don't all suck like that though. Catholic funerals were pretty rad even if I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing. For content, I'll promise to take a picture of a local jeep abomination that someone just put lights up all over it for no discernible reason if I see it again

Olympic Mathlete posted:https://twitter.com/ConStrawmen/status/1365879565072097280?s=20 That is definitely a lack of understanding what Jesus allegedly taught, which was, you know, Socialism, among other things. Which is probably not what *their* church teaches. For all it's faults, at least the Catholic church actually practices what it preaches, some individuals aside. Most of their tithing goes toward community services (disclosure: am a "Submarine" Catholic I surface and go to church at Christmas and Easter.) Couple of custom imports I spotted recently: This one is actually nicely done, if dated, and frankly, I'd rock it. This one, however, is a time capsule of all the bad import trends from the '90s: (sorry for the bad pic, was trying to be discreet.) To enumerate: Stick on scoop Fuckoff aluminum wing on trunk Product stickers down along front edge of door Cheap wheels with bad fitment, especially in the rear, *especially* after adding unnecessary wheel arch extensions. Sunroof spoiler shade thing Side window spoiler shade things Not the worst body kit, at least. No lowering (despite an Eibach sticker...) It also had terrible seat covers and a slip on steering wheel cover. Then there's that Kia next to it... wait, that's my wife's car. (I really like that little Spectra5, but it's a spare, now, and I need to sell it.)

I just saw some twitter thread about how lots of foods in England are changing packaging post-Brexit to remove references to Europe and to push how they're British products. Seems like the prime time to resurrect Rover or some other lovely British automotive brands and sell some garbage to nationalists.
