Somehow accidentally learned today that there is a Mandy Moore cover of "Willin'", and I'm just saying I do not believe her when she sings that she has driven every kind of rig that has ever been made. Linda Ronstadt however remains undefeated.

That is my favorite track off of Heart Like a Wheel. My favorite track off of an album that is full of tracks that would be my favorite tracks on any other album.

GOOD MORNING
As I understand it, he had not been in the best of health for a while. I love his music and was playing a lot of it today: Church Street Blues, some of the Grisman stuff, the New South stuff. What a giant. I wonder who's getting the guitar. :)

What a giant. The Pizza Tapes album with him and Jerry on it is loose and fun.

Just discovered Michael Hurley, just scratchin the surface so far but this song is an early standout for me. not sure how i'd never dug into him before, i've loved Yo La Tengo's cover of Griselda for years, but for some reason had never looked into the original

Goodness no, now that wouldn't do at all!
Can anybody recommend me stuff like Redd Volkaert plays here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OGhSLxAdoU

I love the sparse, three-piece arrangement, the standup bass, the almost-constant guitar noodling.

That's a bit of a tricky niche since afaik Redd's the only guy out of the Don Kelley stable that tries to sing at all. Don't quite know what you're looking for so don't know what to recommend. Might want to give the Time Jumpers a shot?
Guthrie Trapp is also out of that school but doesn't sing. Hell of a guitar player tho.

A lot of Doc Watson’s stuff follows that formula pretty close.

Seconding Doc Watson, it's tight like that and there's great breadth of traditional stuff in his work as well

That's great news cause I'm gonna need something to dislodge these from my head. I am the exact age to have heard all of these hundreds of times as a kid and then to have not thought about them for 25 years and it hits really hard.

I was supposed to see him in a few weeks in Toronto but that's cancelled thanks to 3rd wave lockdown.

Not sure if his Vancouver show is still a go in July (Lucinda Williams is opening!!) but I won't be able to attend that either. I have (had?) front row balcony, center seats.

Edit: Vancouver show is now March 1, 2022.
