I will be gone, but not forever.
If anyone's interested, I made a Spotify playlist of No Depression's 2016 top 50 reader's poll. There's 3-4 albums missing, most notably the Lucinda Williams album (#3), but it's mostly there.

The new hurray for the riff raff album is going to be... not fantastic. The new tracks have been pretty bad live, and the singer has fired most everybody who worked with her over the years past few years. Alynda always had a bit of an ego, but she's told some really talented people to gently caress off lately.

That's too bad, I really dig the single she released off the album. Hopefully they find a way to make it work.

Isbell sounds so good on stage with them.

I'm pumped to see DBT tonight in St. Louis, although now I can't help but wish that I saw them last night in Nashville instead!

I'm looking forward to hearing a new record from Leroy/Leon Virgil Bowers (whatever he's calling himself this week). I've loved pretty much everything he's ever done.

Isbell seems to be hinting at a slightly heavier record.

That riff sounds awesome. It sounds like the bad guy in Bond is about be introduced and the reveal as to who plays him will SHOCK THE WORLD. Plot twist: It is Judy Dench.

The teaser and subsequent hints on twitter are that the new Isbell album will be an electric guitar heavy rocker. This is a great thing. Don't get me wrong, his acoustic and more folksy/country songs are great but my favorite stuff of his involves an electric guitar.

I guess Brandi Carlile is organizing a charity album with covers of her songs. The Rolling Stone article about it has Dolly Parton's cover of The Story if any interested

Jackson C. Frank is good for a sad, lazy, hopeless Thursday:

Also, Handsome Family got sorta popular with the True Detective opening, they are really good and sad too:

The new Jason Isbell record drops June 16th. He needs someone to help him with album cover art in the worst way though. Or a new person to help him at least. Here We Rest is okay. The rest are garbage.

I'd agree with the album cover thing normally, but I do like how this one looks.

Also, Amanda lookin' smokin' hot and very much like she's starring in Grease.

Speaking of album covers, I do not like that DBT went with an actual picture on their new album versus the standard Wes Freed art. It looks like it doesn't belong in my collection. This is made worse by the fact if you catch them on this tour, they have lots of stuff with the Darkened Flags style art done-up by Freed and it looks awesome!

The songs in common: Waylon's versions on Honky Tonk Heroes or Billy Joe's on Old Five and Dimers Like Me? I'm not sure I can answer this in light of anything but which version I was more familiar with first but I would have to go with Billy Joe's on most of them.

I was in Muscle Shoals a few days ago. FAME studios has the handwritten lyrics to "Outfit" and "Decoration Day" on the walls.

Muscle Shoals Sound Studios was closed for a session, so I wasn't able to do their tour - but they gave me free passes to the Alabama Music Hall of Fame and a bunch of merch for the inconvenience. So also enjoy this dope Bocephus statue exploding out of a wall

This rules but I can't help but feel like the melancholy tone of his voice doesn't fit with the more upbeat music.

I saw him about ten years ago and he was awesome. I was only a recent fan at best when I saw him. It'll be worth it if you enjoy his stuff.

This was at the Birchmere in Alexandria VA, where he happens to be playing again next month. Is that where you're seeing him?

Nah, in Pensacola, FL. I generally save up my show going for metal shows, but I've been on a roots rock kick lately, and my wife digs that kind of ting more than metal.

Not sure if anyone will know, but what the hell -

The Supersuckers are coming to DC (and playing a local BBQ joint of all places). Does anyone know if they typically focus on their country material or the rock stuff when they play live?
