The Tallest Man On Earth was billed above George Clinton and Jon Spencer in the Golden Plains festival press release I just got. I don't really approve, but I'll check him out. He reminds me of guys like Passenger, who just seem inoffensive.

He IS pretty popular, but he certainly wasn't billed above Parliament/Funkadelic, and I think he's much more suited to the Golden Plains crowd compared to Jon Spencer.

Anyways, to the other guy going to see him, I saw tallest man on earth in Melbourne earlier in the year, and it was mostly good, but he has an odd stage persona, and will range from no eye contact and standing still, to basically staring down any person who cheers too loudly, I swear sometimes while he was up there he just looked really pissed off to be playing his songs to people. This was probably exacerbated more by him telling us these really long explanations to songs where he basically says he regrets writing it because it's so hateful to someone he loves, only to start playing and have a whole bunch of people start cheering.

Also, be prepared for a duo with his wife where they basically make out with each other while he plays the guitar. Everyone loved it for some reason but it was just really awkward.

This makes it sound pretty bad, but his performances were perfect and most of the time he was normal, I guess it just depends on the crowd

If you even remotely like classic country, listen to this album:

This review says it better than I could: http://www.savingcountrymusic.com/zephaniah-ohoras-this-highway-is-classic-country-mastery/

My knowledge of country basically extends to Johnny Cash, early Elvis, Townes Van Zandt, the Marty Robbins album with the bright pink cover and Wagon Wheel by OCMS, which I realise is a list of babbys first country music. But I can't stop listening to this album, it's grabbed me in a way few albums have recently.

I'm looking for laid-back moody, atmospheric acoustic fold in the vein of Panopticon's Tamarack's Gold Returns (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxCLgSJmhgw ). They're a black metal band so the rest of the album really isn't like that. Everything I find either has vocals which I don't really care about, or is a bit too intense. Thanks for any recommendations!

Maybe Calexico/Friends of Dean Martinez?

related to that maybe parts of the Red Dead soundtrack?

This is great, and he's playing at one of my favourite venues in July, good timing!

Also, this can just be added to that mashup of samey country songs no worries. That poor kid.

Anyone heard this kid? 22 years old, must have been smoking and drinking since he was 5 (although that facial hair is definitely age appropriate)

Also this guy is great, but I've been listening to earlier albums and he most certainly doesn't have that lisp that he's affecting on the new album

Every so often I come across this video on youtube and it makes me laugh every time.

I'm sure all of you have seen it already, but it is probably the most accurate representation of modern country music.

I've been listening to a ton of DBT/Jason Isbell recently and only just came across this yesterday and couldn't stop laughing at it.

Yeah, I’m not much of a Twitter person, but Isbell’s tweets are often hilarious and generally on-the-money.

Considering the quality of a lot of country music people's comments, him dunking on them constantly is great

It’s a song called I Hate Chicago. It’s tounge in cheek, it’s about how her ex wife lives there:

“I couldn't give a poo poo about the (Smashing) Pumpkins, Slint or Wilco
Learn to make a pizza you loving jack-offs
Say hello back when someone says hello, you rear end in a top hat
I hate O'Hare, I hate Midway, I can't stand Chicago”

The the video is a recreation of Wayne’s World.

Can anyone recommend Melbourne alt country? I know Devil Goat Family String Band.

Don't think they're still together but The Death Rattles

I was wondering if this would get posted here, he definitely has a weird fixation on Isbell but also seems bizarrely defensive of Morgan Wallen too, this was only a few days ago https://www.savingcountrymusic.com/grand-ole-opry-unfairly-attacked-after-morgan-wallen-appearance/

I mean look at that opening line! "When Morgan Wallen was caught using the N-word in a playful moment with a friend on a Ring doorbell camera on January 31st, 2021,"
