Surprise T Rex posted:So I'm working on a thing in After Effects, and I'm using Particle Playground. I've turned every particle type except the Grid off, and if I set the grid dimensions to be 1x1 particle, it manages to somehow generate 193 of them. This is once I've already told it to only generate that 1x1 grid for one frame. As far as I can tell that should be just the one particle. If you're planning on getting serious with particle stuff, look at some third-party solutions - Trapcode Particular is kind of the standard here, and I find it's also very useful to have particleIllusion around for its awesome emitter library when you just need to bang some stuff out quickly and still have it look amazing.

rear end cobra posted:There's some really nice work in there! I enjoy sports graphics (especially from the US) for their extremely polished and over the top quality, do you have any experience with live broadcast graphics (stats etc)? I've always wondered how those are put together. For broadcast graphics, you're looking at a Chyron system of some description. My first real job ever was operating a Lyric system through an ancient Ross switcher for a morning talk show at my community college. Not the most exciting stuff, but with all the buttons and doo-dads on the switcher you can pretend you're at the helm of a starship when you pull that nice heavy t-bar for the dissolves. ![]() Well, that's what I did at least...

magnificent7 posted:Has anybody messed around with BlackMagic's Fusion? They've released a Beta, available for Mac so hells yes. Audio playback in Fusion was added in the currently available Beta 2 - look for the speaker icon next to the playback controls and right click to select a file. It's still pretty limited at this point but I imagine this is something Blackmagic has an eye on improving since they seem to want to start making some inroads in the motion graphics community with Fusion. As for Fusion in general, I've been playing around with the beta for a couple months and have definitely been digging it. Coming from a Nuke background it's really easy to get into once you know all the equivalent nodes and I'll definitely be using it for personal projects and freelance work in the future.

Is it an option to use Cinema 4D Lite and do it in real 3D? The geometry and texturing are simple enough that it should be easy to match the movement and lighting in C4D.
