Didn't we have a thread for staking new players a while back? Or did that turn out really bad? Sorry if this idea was retarded, just wanted to bring some new blood in here.

Dr. Eat posted:elaborate? pretty serious accusation... A lot of casual people prefer to just have the one account to handle everything. When they aren't super serious about winning money - more just wanting to bet and play some poker for fun. Sportsbook.com screwed over all their affiliates, by simply up and closing their affiliate program and not paying any more income on any players they had referred. Long history of trying to do anything they can to not pay the customer out, such as retroactively adding terms and conditions. Plus long history of super delayed cashouts. I believe they're still owned by Jazette, who have a long, long history of stealing from players.

Has there been any recent updates with FTP after PS announced that they were going to buy them out? Any ETA on money for US players?

The only update that I know if is that they have started hiring employees as of a few days ago - or at least are advertising for employees.

AFAIK there is no ETA from US players. The next announcement they should expect is when the DOJ gives the contract for the payouts to a claim administrator (applications for companies to do this ended Aug 31st I think). No one knows how long the process for US players will take but I would be slightly surprised if US players had their money by Christmas. Edit: Just to make this totally clear: Ever since the Pokerstars/DOJ/FTP deal was ratified niether Pokerstars or FTP are involved AT ALL in the repayment of US player balances. The DOJ and the claims administrators are 100% in control of this process. Lord of the Llamas fucked around with this message at 17:10 on Sep 13, 2012 |

This is getting a little repetitive but it does bear repeating: If you have the option to play on pokerstars.com or pokerstars.it or any other pokerstars.* you absolutely, 100% should play there. There have been far too many sites that have gone bankrupt, had cheaters, unsegregated player funds, non existent encryption, etc and pokerstars is the only one that has consistently shown itself to be above board in the face of every challenge that has come their way. I don't know if someone can find the top10 sites by traffic from, say, 3 years ago but I bet that stars is the only one that hasn't outright failed or lost the majority of their traffic after some destabilizing incident or another. If the United States congress ever does get around to legalizing online poker, pokerstars will be the example of what online poker should be and what every other site should shoot for.

Three quick HoldEm Manager questions: I like watching the high stakes games on PokerStars, however I don't play on the site. HEM doesn't record the stats on PokerStars correctly and doesn't save them between sessions. Is there any way to change this? Second, I play on Cake and HEM does not record stats if I am not actually sitting at the table. Seems like a good idea to "datamine" and just spectate lots of games at my stakes in order to get stats on players. Possible? Third, HEM resets my (hero) stats on the HUD between every session. Is this changeable so it records my stats like any other player and maybe be resetable?

^ Thanks for the response. I'm curious about the short stacking in the nose bleed PLO games. It looks like its less common at medium stakes. Both in heads up and 6max, players are usually keeping ~50bb stacks. This naturally results in lots of all-ins, especially when one player is on a draw. Is this a metagame thing that has slowly developed? What's the reasoning for this, especially with PLO? Nifty fucked around with this message at 19:09 on Sep 16, 2012 |

The reason is different for different players. Short stacking makes for easier decisions in general. Multi tabling is a lot easier when short stacking for this reason. Also there are probably people there who are under rolled for those stakes so they buy in short. Then there is short stacking because you don't want to get put in spots were you think you will get out played by your competition and just want to do some high stakes gambling and not get destroyed.

Even after being locked in a dark closet and neglected for years, my account refuses to die. Sup goons. Decided to learn poker, remembered PITR, came looking.... drat. Anyway, I know the 'new player guide' is in progress, but I'd specifically like a guide on getting started with tracking/calculating software (ie pokerstove). I know everyone and their inbred daughter is supposed to buy holdem manager, but how do I get started/use it 'correctly'? Should I try getting it through one of the affiliate buy-in promotions? Do I open pokerstove, put in ranges I know I'm beating already so it can simultaneously validate me shoving on every hand and give me a scapegoat when I lose my last $2 of my hooker fund? I have so many questions!
