Seems to me you can vote on collections and, at the same time, the individual games inside them, so I don't know if they work as a straight thing where upvoting the collection upvotes every game in it.

It's not a new bug - it's been happening since within an hour of launch. Last I heard it eventually resolved itself for the guys who got it first, so.

Greenlight is doing fine. What do you think Valve's inbox was like before this rolled out?

Any opinions on Gear-up? The video makes it look cool enough, but has anyone tried and have opinions on the alpha?

I played theplay Wyv demo some time ago and just didn't find it particularly 'new' or interesting. For me at least, a puzzle platformer better be drat amazing to care about it what with just how many there are.
For Siege, I just personally think the games should get support when they're actually in a state that could go on the Steam store, not something still in Alpha. It looks neat, but it'll look way neater in 6mo-1yr.

I know this was brought up a couple pages back but I just wanted to touch on the issue of why a developer would have to go through Greenlight.

I don't know if this applies to everyone, but Rockin' Android at least, among a few others I have heard from, that already had games on Steam (and in Rockin' Android's case with no other publisher as a middle man), we were told specifically that we had to go through Greenlight from now on.

I can't shed any light on the exact reason for this, and if I had any knowledge of that I probably wouldn't be able to share it anyway, although at first I almost wondered if it was an experiment to see how Greenlight would work for titles from existing developers. Probably not, though I could see how it would work to kick-start the system if they threw some developers on it intentionally. But no; I think most indies that aren't in tight with Valve already will probably have to go through this now.

I don't feel comfortable about this at ALL. I liked greenlight as an outreach for new devs, not a place for every single indie game.

It looks like the SeduceMe guys got real whiny about not being allowed on Steam:

quote:

"I understand it more on iOS, because Apple has this air of, 'we're here to protect you, everything just works and it's a nice, safe place to be'," she says. "That's Apple's whole ethos: I don't like it, but I understand it. I don't understand Valve's, because it's supposed to be part of the PC, Linux ethos. I'd always seen them as being on the side of the underdog, on the side of free speech."

On the other hand, Steam has 54 million users. If even a fraction of those are taking a look at Greenlight, it's probably more exposure than you'd get by adding your game to another service.

Even if they do give you a lovely deal and don't want to negotiate, I've never heard of them doing any kind of exclusivity contracts or anything, you're still free to sell the game on your own site and take 100% of the profit.

The chance to have your game exposed to Steam's userbase kind of makes it worth it.

In terms of active users, you're off by about an order of magnitude.
