CE Loot table info in 2nd post

Guns. Lots of guns. This, however, is not the Matrix, it's the sequel to Gearbox Software's 2009 FPS RPG 'Diablo with guns' co-op hilarity fest.

:siren:Bordergoons Steam group info!
If you want an invite to the Bordergoons Steam group, join the chat and ask for an invite. Don't post endless invite requests.

One of the recent trailers should tell you everything you need to know:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nicvyhrmTDs

There. You can buy the game from various online retailers (Steam, GMG, Gamersgate, Etc.) As well as pretty much every other games retailer out there. Go. Now!
The game is Steamworks, retail copies will need to be registered on Steam. This also means Steam matchmaking, no more Gamespy!

DLC

Season Pass DLC is available on Steam
Season Pass Includes 4 Campaign DLCs (New areas and story missions) and the Ultimate Upgrade Pack (level cap increase to 61).

These 4 DLCs were confirmed to all be campaign/story DLCs. But there's also this: (thanks Redjakk)

Redjakk posted:

They said at the PAX Gearbox panel that Knoxx was their benchmark for all the future DLC but that they didn't have anything set in stone as of yet. Mike Neumann put out a suggestion to the crowd of "Scooter's Scooter Racing - With Scooter!" that got an overwhelmingly positive response and an embarrassed Randy Pitchford hung his head and said that he guessed he'd have to go with 4 DLCs + Scooter Racing.

As of April 2013, Three of the four season pass campaigns have been released. They are:

Captain Scarlett's Pirate Booty - A piratey tale of treasure and, er, pirates. And a mythical Leviathan which probably needs slaughtering. Avast! As well as a story campaign and many sidequests, adds a new vehicle (only available in DLC1 areas), a couple of new Raid bosses, a new currency (Seraph Crystals) to buy powerful (ish) gear from special vendors, and a whole bunch of silly gunning and looting fun.

Mr Torgue's Campaign of Carnage :torgue: - Do you like EXPLOSIONS? Then this is the DLC for you! Join Mr Torgue's tournament to find the Ultimate Badass to open a newfound vault on Pandora. As well as a story campaign and many sidequests, adds another Raid boss, another new currency (Torgue Tokens), used in Torgue vending machines to buy Torgue weapons. Explosions! :torgue: Torgue Vendors always sell one (expensive) legendary item levelled to your level. IMO Some of the best humour in BL2 is in this DLC.

:torgue::torgue::torgue: DID I MENTION EXPLOSIONS?! :torgue::torgue::torgue:

Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt - Join Sir Hammerlock on a manly hunting trip to a new continent! Find new and interesting creatures, and kill them! All while some guy tries to spoil your fun. As well as a story campaign and many sidequests, adds another new vehicle (again only available in DLC3 areas), a couple of raid bosses and some positively ribald humour from Sir Hammerlock himself. There are things that need to be shot, and By Jove you're the one to do it!

"Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep" - Join Dungeonmaster Tiny Tina as she leads three of the original vault hunters through a game of Bunkers and Badasses - a homage to D&D. This DLC has several brand new fantasy themed areas, and at least 10 new types of enemies to shoot at! There's a whole ton of content in here, including some excellent new gear and plenty of humour. I hope you like Crumpets!
PAX Teaser

In Addition to this, Gearbox has thrown the Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade level cap increase DLC (£3.99/$4.99 seperately) into the Season pass for free. Which is nice.

The Second level cap increase - Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2 is not in the season pass but can be yours for £3.49/$5. Increases the level cap to 72 if you own the first increase pack.

Price for the season pass is £19.99 in the UK/$29.99 US.

HeadHunter Packs

These are holiday themed (so far) small chunks of content, all based around a specific boss fight, with a small questline building toward that goal. Each has it's own unique thing going on and they're pretty worth it for the money they cost. ($2/£3) So far they are -

Bloody Harvest - Halloween
Wattle Gobbler - Thanksgiving
Mercenary Day - Christmas

Wattle Gobbler gets an extra mention for introducing Grandma Torgue. It's Story time!

DLC Player Classes

:siren: DLC CLASSES ARE NOT PART OF THE SEASON PASS :siren:
Currently :10bux: each.

One new player class is available at the moment -

Gaige The Mechromancer - summon a huge robot to smack dudes in the face for you! Also includes a skill tree designed for newer players, and one for "more advanced" players. Combine these two to become an unstoppable overpowered bullet spraying machine. Your milage may vary.

Here's a runthrough of her skill tree -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xA1WNt8SoCU

A second DLC class came out 14th May -

Krieg The Psycho - Literally one of the Psychos you meet in the game. Armed with a buzz axe and a love for being set on fire, this guy has a strong melee focus, while also being strong with explosives. There was a short gameplay video showing some of his skills, and a better showcase has shown up now -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khmi49sfecg
He looks awesome.

There are also a bunch of skins and heads which are entirely cosmetic and you probably shouldn't spend money on those.

:psyduck: So Much DLC, when should I play it all? (in relation to the main game)

Captain Scarlett and Torgues Campaign are recommended for between levels 15 and 30 in the first playthrough. Hammerlock and Dragon Keep are recommended for 30-35 in playthrough 1.

:siren: The Hammerlock and Dragon Keep DLCs contain spoilers about the plot of the main game. Play them after you beat the main game. :siren:

When you play them in TVHM or UVHM matters less, as they all (supposedly) scale to your level in TVHM and UVHM. Scaling seems a lil broken, YMMV.

Sounds Great, but what about PC features? Is it going to be a :argh:BAD PORT:argh: again?

Hell no. They've done a ton of work adding PC specific options and features to both jazz up the game and make it easier to play for more people.
Gamespy posted a few screens show the various options available on the PC version -

Lots of goodness in there that people were clamouring for.

Also, There are fancy PhysX effects available if you have the right hardware and such -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWFkDrKvBRU

I was going to write a chunk about the classes and the guns and the game in general but then they released this new "Introduction" trailer which is everything you could ever need.
Includes token British gent with Monocle.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUu-FzRFYZA

Pretty much everything about the original Borderlands has been expanded, improved and fixed, so far as I can tell. I had the pleasure to play a demo build for a while at Rezzed, and it felt incredibly solid.

There's also an Hour-long mostly-gameplay video of the final build which surfaced recently (Maya and Axton). Also shows off the DLC class, "Mechromancer", which is coming shortly after release, in a very unfinished state. A second similar video comes from IGN, showcasing the same content, but played with Salvadore and Zero. There's plenty other gameplay videos out there if you wanna search for them, I'm not linking 85 bazillion videos. :v:

Badass Rank details

When you complete challenges in game (stuff like "Kill 50 Skags" or "Cause 10000 points of fire damage"), you get Badass Rank points which you can redeem for stat bonuses which is profile-wide, and so affects all of your characters.

These stat bonuses include -
  • Maximum Health
  • Shield Capacity
  • Shield Recharge Rate
  • Melee Damage
  • Grenade Damage
  • Gun Accuracy
  • Gun Damage
  • Fire Rate
  • Recoil Reduction
  • Reload Speed
  • Elemental Effect Chance
  • Elemental Effect Damage
  • Critical Hit Damage

When you spend badass points, the game picks 5 random stats and you can choose which to upgrade from those 5. There's also an option to disable the buffs completely if you want to play with a vanilla character. The amount of Badass Rank points you can accumulate is unlimited, so you can keep piling on the bonuses for as long as you play the game.

:siren:Here is the information on how to adjust the loot tables for a better chance of loot

Note: This only works on Windows at the current time. No CE scripts for Mac, sorry.

Note: Cheat Engine table modification will work in Multiplayer, provided the HOST has it running. The Host's values will override any client values.

:siren:NOTE: The Loot Table Modification DOES NOT TAKE EFFECT until after Captain Flynt, when you arrive in Three Horns!:siren:

Basically the odds of hitting a legendary weapon from any given loot source is 200:0.01 in the base game. After much thought, argument and discussion this was decided to be pretty retarded. Happily there is a way around this!

I don't know who made the original post but Kaethela kindly keeps quoting it, and I'm gonna copy his post here.

BORDERLANDS 2 LOOT TABLE FUCKERY
Okay here we go. This is a bit of a faff to do and it does need you to do some stuff each time you play but it's better than spending hours trying to grind out anything better than a blue.

1) Download and install CheatEngine from http://www.cheatengine.org/ (Mirror for version 6.2 HERE)
2) Download this file and keep it somewhere you can find it easily: Borderlands2RarityDrops.cetrainer
2a) Making a shortcut directly to this file on your desktop is the most convenient way to do this.
3) Start up Borderlands and skip through all the logos etc until you get to the main menu (with the camera spinning round your character), then alt-tab out
4) Open up CheatEngine
5) Click on the little computer icon in the top left, you should see a list of running processes. Select the Borderlands 2 one and click Open.
6) Click on the open folder icon next to the computer one. Navigate to where you saved the file from step 2 and open that.

4-6) Open the cetrainer file directly, which will effectively complete the previous steps 4-7 and is quicker and easier.
7) The screen should change to a couple of checkboxes, this is where the magic happens. Check the bottom of the two boxes which should read "Item Rarity/Chances - Enable". You might get a second's hangup as it finds the presets, this is normal.
8) You should now see the default values in the righthand column, here's where you can see how bullshit the game's drops really are. Weight 0-6 is what determines what drops.
9) Click on each checkbox in turn and hit enter to manually adjust the value.
10) Enjoy lootsplosions!

:siren::siren::siren:NOTE: LOOT VALUES UNDER 1 NO LONGER WORK PROPERLY, MAKE SURE ALL LOOT DROP VALUES ARE 1 OR ABOVE:siren::siren::siren:
This does not affect the "Sensible" preset in the file but will make the "X only" presets do wonky things or not work at all.

You will have to do steps 3 onwards every time you play, but once you know what you're doing it only takes a minute. The presets box has a bunch of stuff to change it back to normal, have only legendaries drop, stuff like that.

I think the settings at the bottom are about how likely an enemy / boss / pile of garbage is to actually drop equipment for different numbers of players. I haven't touched them so I'm not really sure.

Also just so you know the loot tiers* are:

0 VeryCommon = Health
1 Common = White
2 Uncommon = Green
3 Uncommoner = Eridium (this seems to affect both the overall drop rate of Eridium and the chance that a purple weapon is an E-tech one? I'm not really sure)
4 Rare = Blue
5 VeryRare = Purple
6 Legendary = Orange

Have fun, I've enjoyed a couple of hours of low level play using this waaaay more than I did the dozen or so I sank in with Salvador at endgame trying to farm legendaries.

There are a number of theories as to the best values, feel free to experiment. Personally I have settled on 150/100/20/4/6/4/2 as a healthy rate which drops Legendaries rarely but noticably, and blues/purples are reasonably common.

Once you have settled on values you like, you can edit one of the Presets in the file using a text editor. Here's how -

1) Open the file (notepad is fine, or whatever text editor you like - the file is XML)
2) Scroll down until you find the section which describes the presets, you'll see a section of numbers seperated by commas enclosed in curly brackets, looking something like this -

:siren::siren::siren:NOTE: LOOT VALUES UNDER 1 NO LONGER WORK PROPERLY, MAKE SURE ALL LOOT DROP VALUES ARE 1 OR ABOVE:siren::siren::siren:
This does not affect the "Sensible" preset in the file but will make the "X only" presets do wonky things or not work at all.

code:
Presets =
 {
  ["Revert All - Original"] = {200, 100, 10, 5, 1, 0.1, 0.01},

  ["Preset 1 (Legendary Only)"] = {0.001, 0.001, 0.001, 0.001, 0.001, 100, 10000},
  ["Preset 2 (Purple Only)"] = {0.001, 0.001, 0.001, 0.001, 0.001, 1000, 0.001},
  ["Preset 3 (Blue Only)"] = {0.001, 0.001, 0.001, 0.001, 1000, 0.001, 0.001},
  ["Preset 4 (Eridium Only)"] = {0.001, 0.001, 0.001, 1000, 0.001, 0.001, 0.001},
  ["Preset 5 (Green Only)"] = {0.001, 0.001, 1000, 0.001, 0.001, 0.001, 0.001},
  ["Sensible"]	                  	      = {150, 100, 20, 4, 6, 4, 2},
  ["Preset 7 (Health Only)"] = {1000, 0.001, 0.001, 0.001, 0.001, 0.001, 0.001},

  ["Preset 8 (Legendaries 5x more likely)"] = {200, 100, 10, 5, 1, 0.1, 0.05},
  ["Preset 9 (Legendaries 10x more likely)"]  = {200, 100,  10,    5,    1,  0.2,   0.1}
 }
3) Pick a preset to modify (In the example above I have already written over the "White Only" Preset), and edit the numbers. The numbers are in order of the Loot Tiers as described above, Health White Green Eridium Blue Purple Orange.

4) If you want to change the name of the Preset you've modifed, Change the text within the quotation marks to the left of your modified numbers. The preset name is stored once elsewhere in the file as well, you MUST change both values so they match. The other value is near the top of the file, in sections that look like this -
code:
              <CheatEntry>
              <ID>15</ID>
              <Description>"Sensible"</Description>
              <Color>80000008</Color>
              <VariableType>Auto Assembler Script</VariableType>
              <AssemblerScript>[ENABLE]
[DISABLE]
</AssemblerScript>
            </CheatEntry>
5) Save the file. If you've done everything right it'll load up. If CE crashes when you open it, you probably messed up the names, double check them.
6) Open the file as normal when BL2 is running, and Hit Enable -> Presets -> Your Preset. You'll no longer have to modify each value by hand.

7) :torgue: LOOTSPLOSIONS?!? :torgue:

SECONDARY NOTE: The original file requires CE 6.2 but it's only a version check which can be removed in the script, like so -

PoopinClumpin posted:

Just a little thing I found that might reduce the headache of using the Cheat Engine .cetrainer file advertised in the OP.

Since you're probably going to open the file up in a text editor to set up the "Sensible" drop rates anyway you may as well also just delete the part shown below for the check on Cheat Engine version 6.2.

Find and delete THIS SECTION only

line 290 of .cetrainer file posted:

code:
if (getCEVersion==nil) or (getCEVersion()~=6.2) then
messageDialog('Please install Cheat Engine 6.2', mtError, mbOK)
  closeCE()

This file works perfectly well with the newest version as of this post (6.4) and the check was probably only put in to make sure people weren't running an older version than 6.2. Unfortunately, also forcing them to not run a newer version after 6.2. Once that check is removed, this .cetrainer works fine in 6.4.

Note: Cheat Engine table modification will work in Multiplayer, provided the HOST has it running. The Host's values will override any client values.

Other Stuff -

Class Builds

Struggling on how to spend your skill points? Here are some build for various characters to give you some ideas.

Maya

AirRaid's lvl61 build
Basically Ruin is the most important thing. Converge pulls stuff towards the phase, and then Ruin slags them ALL. I use a Legendary Siren mod to boost the top skills by 5, giving some great damage boosts.

Zer0

Solumin posted:

First attempt at making a Zer0 build.

Melee Zer0
Zer0's Bl00dshed tree focuses on buffing melee damage to astronomical heights. His action skill, Decepti0n, provides a bonus of up to 650% damage to melee attacks, which can be raised further with other skills, Strength relics, and Roid shields.

Basic Build - Level 31
Bl00dshed: 26 points
The point of this build is to chain together melee kills using Many Must Fall. Most of the skills focus on buffing melee damage one way or another, but there are some variations possible with this tree.
- Be Like Water: Considering that you're focusing on chaining melee kills, Be Like Water can be pretty lackluster. However, it can work well if you pair it with, say, a Jakobs shotgun and make sure you alternate between melee and gun attacks. This is a viable strategy when you're working towards Many Must Fall. Alternatively, just put the points into Killing Bl0w. Don't put them in Grim, since that skill makes Roid shields less useful.
- Resurgence vs. Like The Wind: Resurgence is a somewhat useful skill. Until you have the Law & Order combo, you have no real way to heal yourself. A fully spec'd Resurgence with a class mod is a great source of healing, which frees you to use other weapons such as the Rapier. I suggest speccing into it, since you may not always be able to depend on the Order shield. Once you do, the bonus provided by Like The Wind will be more useful. It's triggered by Execute attacks, too!

From here you can branch into either the Sniping tree or the Cunning tree.

Cunning Bloodshed - Level 57
Bloodshed: 26 points; Cunning: 26 points
The Cunning tree adds a few more sources for melee damage and some utility skills. The important thing is Death Bl0ss0m, which can potentially slag enemies and applies Death Mark. The last few skill points can be used to flesh out the Bl00dshed tree a little bit more.

Bloodshed Sniping
There's nothing really to say about this build, and I'm not going to link it. Pick whatever skills you want in the Sniping tree and pick up B0re. It'll let you see critical points. Thing is, this tree doesn't work well with the melee-focused build we have going here. You're much better off going into Cunning and grabbing Death Bl0ss0m.

Gear
Ninja Class Mod: Up to 52% Melee Damage bonus. Skill bonuses are Backstab, Killing Bl0w, and Resurgence. If you don't plan on using Resurgence, a blue +6 Killing Bl0w/+5 Backstab Ninja class mod is the way to go. Otherwise, a purple +5 KB/+5 Back/+5 Resurge is better.
Legendary Hunter Class Mod: The Legendary Hunter is a great class mod. The skill bonuses (+5 to all Tier 1 skills except 0ptics) are worth putting 1 point into those skills. The red text gives you a 10% health back each time you use Decepti0n. With the cooldown rate the mod provides, you're going to be in and out of Decepti0n constantly.
Strength Relic: Sheer +Melee damage. While Execute is technically a melee override skill, it doesn't have any cooldown and doesn't benefit from the relic's second bonus.
Law & Order: +100% Melee damage revolver + High-bonus Roid shield? Health restored on each melee attack? Hell yes! Bonus: The Law is 100% accurate when scoped.
Rapier: Highest melee damage bonus gun at +200%. This is going to be your main weapon once you get your hands on it.
Love Thumper: Incredibly high roid damage with a really long recharge delay. However, the explosive novas can hurt allies.

I'll post more as I get them.

I got a Pink Gun, What the hell is this?

Loot Rainbow!

Left to right: White, Green, Blue, Purple, E-Tech, Orange (Legendary), Pearlescent, Seraph.

Missing: Cash and Health. If you don't know what cash and health look like or are for, then you are beyond help.

White/Green/Blue/Purple/(E-Tech)/Orange is the standard Loot rainbow. Pearl gets added if you have the UVH Upgrade Pack, and Seraph items are only available in the DLC areas, either from Raid boss drops or Vendors who only take Seraph crystals (dropped from Raid bosses).

What do the pretty colours do?

White through to Purple is purely a factor of rarity, and is a rough guide to the "quality" of the weapon. As a rule, Purples will be better than Greens. Actual stats are also dependent on the level of the item.

E-Tech guns are normal guns hopped up on Eridium, and have new and interesting projectile effects. Try them out!

Legendary, Pearlescent and Seraph items are the ones that do the craziest, weirdest, and sometimes, most useless stuff. They will have red 'Flavour text' on their item card, like so:

The Red text is usually a reference that mostly doesn't mean much in the context of the gun, but you can look up what your fancy new Soul Stabber does at the BL Wiki page for Unique Weapon Effects. Some Blue guns will also have red text, these are "Uniques", and have similar extra effects.

Gun Parts info

Neo Helbeast in the console thread posted these awesome images of what the different gun parts look like, and the effects they have. It's a neat visual check to see what the various fiddly bits are doing on your new sweet loot.

There is also a Thread on the Gearbox forums detailing all the effects of the parts and their effects on the weapon name.

SAVE FILES AT THE START OF TVHM

I've grouped together (Okay, cloned with the save editor) some saves at the end of PT1. They are all level 32, with some half decent gear, and TVHM completely untouched.

Here are the save files. And a list of which is which -

Save0011 - Axton
Save0012 - Zer0
Save0013 - Maya
Save0014 - Salvador
Save0015 - Gaige
Save0016 - Krieg

These have all sorts of skins unlocked, but nowhere near all. You might find you have extra skins unlocked if you loads one of these up.

Use at your own risk, etc. There will be some weirdness with the character model on the menu screen not changing sometimes, but so far as I can tell it doesn't affect gameplay at all.

Also, CJacobs made some Level 5 starter saves if you really don't want to go through the Intro section again. Find those here - http://www.mediafire.com/download/g8jzv41ctbltoxm/CJacobs%27_Borderlands_Starter_Saves.rar

Shyfted One provided a link to some BL1 save files for those guys that lost/don't have them any more and want sweet sweet hats heads.
These saves go into Users\<user>\My Documents\My games\Borderlands\Savedata.
If you're using WinXP still, it's just My Documents\My Games\Borderlands\Savedata.

Yeah Gunzerker is the only dual-wielder. (unless you count Axton dual weilding turrets :v:) It's not as overpowered as you might think, but it can turn you into a bandit murdering shredder with the right equipment.

Pre-ordered with Greenman gaming when they had that sweet 40% off thing going on. I loved the first one, even on the PC. (Or despite it I should say.) I'm eagerly waiting to play this bad boy 4-players with my friends. I hope they work something out that was better than the last when dealing with level gaps. If I was something like 5 or so levels ahead of my friends they didn't seem able to hurt poo poo.

I loved the first Borderlands - had that on the 360 and played the hell out of it. This time around I'm in a Steam 4-Pack, and I've avoided most of the hype so far. But I've watched a few videos now, and I'm hankering to play badly. I'm gravitating towards Axton (I mostly played Roland the first time around), but of course Salvador looks awesome too...

I like how the Gunzerker has a skill that increases your damage while dual wield is on cooldown.

Is there a character that makes shotguns as awesome as Roland made them in Borderlands? I love shotguns, and hope they either don't make any with the fixed spreads like some of those in the last game, or they allow them to be affected by accuracy bonuses. Getting an awesome shotgun only to find that you miss with half the pellets because they're fixed into an arbitrary shape was a dick.

I love shotguns, and hope they either don't make any with the fixed spreads like some of those in the last game, or they allow them to be affected by accuracy bonuses. Getting an awesome shotgun only to find that you miss with half the pellets because they're fixed into an arbitrary shape was a dick.

I assume Salvadore can make pretty much anything awesome, and I wouldn't be surprised if Axton is the guy with the skill to make shotguns super-awesome.

The Siren was just way too much fun in the original. I couldn't play any other class after trying out the Siren for the first time.

Also, the Soldier turret was kind of average in the original, because of this I rarely deployed the thing after the first playthrough. Judging from the trailer, it looks like they've beefed the thing up.

Same here, i plan rolling a dual shotgunning salvadore first thing, and i'd hate it if they pull the same poo poo with shotguns in this game as they did with BL1.

Salvadore's damage capabilities seem to be related mostly to fire rate. You'll probably do better with high fire rate assault rifles in dual weild, specially with the recoil reduction buffs he also has access to.

Having said that, there's nothing stopping you from busting out 2 shotguns. You could be a veritable murdersaw with a couple oh high firerate shotguns at once. :black101:

double reply but,

:siren:SEASON PASS DLC IS AVAILABLE ON STEAM:siren:
Buy it as a gift and store it in your inventory to redeem when the actual game goes live.

IT IS MUCH MUCH CHEAPER IN THE UK, FIND A UK GIFTER IF YOURE IN THE US
£7.99/E9.99/$29.99
(I'll help people out with paypal payments if I'm around)

This might be a pricing error, might want to jump on it.

Edit: Oops, typo'd the UK price. £7.99.

Actually, I think it might be cheapest in the EU, 9 quid is still more than 10 Euro. And this is probably the first time the Europeans aren't shafted on Steam.

£7.99 has to be a mistake, I'm sure in one of the interviews they said the DLC was going to be $10 a piece, making the season pass a $10 saving.

Someone really messed that up, and I thank them for it :)

If one of you UK goons could gift the Season Pass to me I would be eternally grateful. Just send me a message and we can figure out payment either by gifting another steam game or using Paypal. :haw:

Shotguns were actually good in Borderlands 1? I might have to make a shotgun Roland run sometime before BL 2 comes out.

You should be able to get it for 37$ on GreenManGaming with their 25% off coupon. Not sure if it's still valid.

You need to buy the DLC as a gift, and store it in your inventory for later. You will then be able to redeem it once the game is out.

The problem lies in the fact that Steam preorders are seperate App IDs, which will be swapped out on release (or preload) for the actual AppID which the DLC is associated with. Until the game launches and you have that proper AppID associated with your account, it won't register that you can buy DLC. So just store it for later.

Really happy that this is using Steam though! The original was so painful to play with others.
