Oddball/Grifball looks like it will be really fun with the ball-throwing. Also, I like how the flag carrier can shoot now. I dunno about the continuation and expansion of armor abilities, I never really liked them much in Reach.

I looked it up, and all you got was a Marshall Faulk card and some downloadable team. My friend agreed that sucked, but bought it anyway. I went back and played some Reach after playing Halo 4 for a couple days, and it was so much more fun (Reach isn't my favorite Halo either). I'm not sure if it's the lack of good maps or the gameplay tweaks, but Halo 4 multiplayer feels like it's missing something.

I bought some Mtn Dew Game Fuel, it tastes like a bad Code Red prototype. I usually only drink diet soda, but Master Chief is on all the cans and his pretty face takes me away to a better place. Complex is such a poo poo map, next time it gets voted for I'm just gonna idle and jerk off to gay porn, a medium that I have no interest in whatsoever.

I think Promethean Vision is optimal almost all the time in modes with armor abilities. Maybe a jetpack on a level with a lot of high places or some weird socialist strategy where a team camps a base and coordinates their loadouts with regen fields, but outside of that, Promethean is definitely the most useful. I have also cum to notice that the Promethean Vision icon totally looks like a fleshlight.

I said come in! posted:I've been thinking of buying ODST, it's the only Halo in the series now that I still haven't played. I wonder if it gets more players too. Halo 3's multiplayer count has actually risen slightly since Halo 4 came out. It's still under like 6000 players though. By ODST multiplayer disc, I meant I just cheaped out and bought disc 2 that comes with ODST. Disc 2 is Halo 3 multiplayer with all the map packs. The only multiplayer on the actual ODST game (disc 1) is a Firefight mode that doesn't even have matchmaking, friends list and local only. If anyone else wants to give Halo 3 a spin, some guy on eBay is selling a bunch of mint, disc only multiplayer discs with all the maps for $6.50 with free shipping. They probably fell off the back of a truck, but that's his business. I've already been playing some Halo 3, I've seen it hit over 10k players at times. I never played it on my current account previously, so the bulk of people I play have low ranks and totally suck. I'm undefeated thus far, in fact. Man, The Pit is such a glorious map. edit: Is that 'Forza 4 gamertag' in your profile your current xbox live GT? If so, I'll add it. jarjarbinksfan621 fucked around with this message at 18:11 on Nov 29, 2012 |

There's a video on youtube that measures the killing time potential of the rifles. The carbine, dmr, and br all can kill in 1.6 seconds. The light rifle is 1.8 seconds, though it can kill in 1.3 seconds zoomed in. Really, there's no need for the br, carbine, or light rifle in Infinity. The DMR is always the optimal choice.

I used the BR like that at first, but now, I just think the laser accuracy of the DMR at any range is way too good to pass up (on any map). Once you get used to it, the DMR is really not much more difficult to use close-range. I do actually think the BR is more fun to use, though. I like how Slayer Pro has forced BR starts.

raditts posted:Slayer Pro lets you choose between BR or DMR, I think. Yeah, you're right. I knew it was like that at the start, but the last time I played I didn't seem to have a choice. TheGreatGildersneeze posted:I've already got the Master commendation for the DMR; I'm pretty used to it. I still find the BR more effective for close range. Different strokes and all that. I might be wrong on this, but I don't think it's technically more effective. If a DMR and BR both shoot each other at the same time from close range and nail all their shots, I think they both die. I'm not a DMR god or anything, I would certainly do better with a BR at point blank, but it's a slight disadvantage that can be overcame vs. any decent range where you're at the mercy of the BR's spread.

I have a ton of forge maps, mostly remakes, but I wouldn't call any of them particularly enticing for regular play. I have my doubts about the potential of 4's forge, the hodge podge of colors make for some fugly maps. A lot of people didn't like Reach's uniform gray forge, but it was a lot easier on the eyes. These are 2 race maps made on Impact that are pretty cool. There's no official race gametype yet, but it's still fun to screw around on these. As for constructive criticism, the hallway to the left of the entrance to the shotgun/overshield/camo overhang is waaaaaaay too narrow.

Just not my thing. Though, the map being downsized in proportion to the character doesn't help. http://i49.tinypic.com/jhzcso.jpg That's the hallway I was talking about. I just ran Halo CE really quick on PC against your map, that hallway is nearly 3x bigger in relation to the player. There's other things that could probably use a slight upsize, but that hallway is especially glaring.

Not sure if you did it, but the gamertag search is space sensitive (not cap), so it won't come up unless you use a space.

I like the way Garrotte is laid out, it's like a mini-The Pit. CTF is pretty good on it. I don't think I'll ever get excited about playing any forge map in this game, though. The textures are ugly as sin. Give me straight gray Reach textures over these any day.

I think they may have paywalled TS, but they always released the DLC as free a few months later. Meaning, nobody in the playlists was more than one pack behind. That DLC model was way better for the players, you got to eventually use your DLC against the entire playerbase.

BrokenKnees posted:Did they ever make the rest of the maps free/cheap for Halo 3? I sold ODST a while ago and the second Mythic pack is the only one I didn't buy outside of ODST's 2nd disc. You can get a odst multiplayer disc for less than $5 shipped on ebay. Doesn't really matter though if you play matchmaking, the non free maps almost never come up. This free release would be a perfect time for them to finally make those maps free. They can't possibly be getting many (any?) sales now, especially since they're worthless outside of customs for the aforementioned reason. Glad there's a free game I can actually stand to play coming. Already have the odst multiplayer disc, but I'd like to play H3's campaign again. I used to have a checkpoint on the warthog getaway at the end and play that poo poo over and over.

Why everyone thought it was fun to play those Halo Custom Edition "Co-op" maps is beyond me when the netcode can't even support it. Netcode on Halo PC can hardly support vanilla slayer. It's too bad, that game would probably have a thriving community if it didn't pretty much suck to play. I know people still play, but the community seems to be largely comprised of people from underdeveloped nations playing rockets, zombies, or blood gulch snipers.

The problem with bloom is it doesn't really make the guns more difficult to wield in the context of Halo's gameplay. Having to pace your shots doesn't make aiming harder. All it does is prolong gunfights and increases variance. I suppose you could argue it makes teamwork more important. Halo 2's BR was laser-like and it made skill prevail a bit more than 3 or Reach.

I don't recall very many of my friends talking about the HCE bloom even though it was there, it's literally just something for people to squabble over. Halo 2's rifle has no bloom and Halo 3's rifle has an adaptable spread. It's not as inconsequential as you imply. Play Super Slayer (reduced bloom) and Regular Slayer on Reach and you'll likely notice how big of a difference it can make.
