Cube World is currently in ALPHA testing Cube World is a Multiplayer-RPG set in a voxel-based world set to release an alpha build within the next 2 months according to the single designer who has built the entire game himself, it is an extremely well polished looking rpg/dungeon fighter game in which you control a character class with a skill tree and other innate abilities, its gameplay is a combination of Minecraft, World of Warcraft, and Kingdom Hearts. It is the perfect blend of rpg elements and new world-generating algorithms to foster a huge fanbase in which to release constant content updates to. http://wollay.blogspot.com/ https://picroma.com/ Join us in IRC: #sa-minecraft on SynIRC Wollay posted:
How do I? Getting Started: Choosing a Class posted:Warrior: Great weapons, dual-wielded one-handed weapons, shield + one-handed weapons Entering a World After you've chosen your character, it will come time for you to choose a Seed number for your world, and a world name. If you're looking for some seed suggestions, try this Seed spreadsheet: Seed Spreadsheet (the seed I used for my world was 666 ) Once you've entered the world of your choosing, the game will begin to load, Depending on how fast your computer loads the game, you may or may not find yourself being attacked while still loading: RUN Pressing F1 will load the quick-referrence chart for the controls. There are a number of important buttons to remember, but most of them are set up around the A-S-W-D character controls. The first level Your first level is the only time you can change your Class's Specialiaztion for free, so press "X" to bring up your skills, select the Specialization of your choice, and press "Learn" to activate it. Once our specilaztion is selected, we are going to want to plot out our schedule for the day, press "M" to bring up the minimap. On the minimap we will be able to see a number of diffrent symbols: This is where the town is located, we will be headed there shortly. This symbol indicates a quest, which in turn can be a dungeon, a solo boss, or a boss specific area, such as a forest, a giant rock, or a lake. Talking to townspeople with green chat boxes above their heads will add more of these symbols to your map. As you level up, low level quests and boss areas will disappear from your map, so be sure to check out the boss as soon as you can. Your first opponent Selecting an opponent that you will be able to defeat at level 1 is difficult, so take a look at the color of the mob's name before attacking. Mobs with white names should be an easy battle for you. Mobs with light blue names are even with your power level, and able to put up a good fight. Mobs with orange names will be above your power level, and will be a difficult encounter. Mobs with red names are well above your power level, you will more than likely be defeated. The boss mob will have a purple unique name over its power level colored mob name. It will also be larger than normal mobs, and glowing red. Elite mobs are signified by a number with a + symbol next to their names. The higher the number, the more rare the drops will be. Roaming world bosses will be appear as the sword symbol on your minimap. Beware enemy groups, they have player character abilities and can appear in groups of 4. Friendly groups will be wandering about the world, killing mobs as they come across them, they are easily identified because of their unique names. Wizards/Witches can come in packs of up to 4, and they will vaporize you instantaneously with a laser death beam, APPROACH AT YOUR OWN PERIL! Your first Goal Immediately upon starting the game you will be supplied with 10 life potions, which wont last you very long, so we're going to find some potion materials. Heart flowers are one-half of the life potion recipe, and can be found anywhere the ground is green. To create a water flask, you will have to head to the potion vendor in town. Zoom your mini-map in when you arrive in town to get the building icons to pop up, and head towards the potion vendor. Glass Flasks will be avalable for purchase for 2 copper each, you can sell items here with right-click, and you can buy them back from the vendor on the buyback tab on the right. Once you've purchased enough Glass flasks to equal your collected heart flowers, head to the nearest river or body of water and open the crafting screen with "C" Under the Formulas tab, find the Water flask recipe and press the sword icon to fill your empty flasks with water. Under the potions tab, you will find the Life Potion +1 recipe, select it and make as many potions as you like. Leveling up After you level up, you will be awarded two skill points to spend. Open your skill screen with "X" and put at least one point into the Pet skill. To tame a pet you will need to feed the pet it's specific food item, which drop from specific mobs scattered throughout the world. Put the food item in the "Pet" slot below your equipment, in your inventory. http://cubeworld.gamepedia.com/Pet#Name_Your_Pet once you have 5 levels in the Pet skill, you will be able to learn pet riding, which will be the most important skill for the early game. Crafting To craft weapons and armor we will need to collect metal from caves, wood from bushes, plant material from scrub, or cotton from cotton plants. To craft the raw material into usable material, head to the crafting district in the town, there you will find a number of diffrent crafting areas once converted into usable material, you will need to find the item-specific crafting bench needed to complete the recipe. Power Level Your power level is dependent upon your level, and can be found on your character sheet in your inventory, press "I" to see it. If an item is below or above your power level, you can take it to the Adapter in the center of town, If the item has to be increased in power, you will have to pay a sum of Platinum Coins, which can only be ascertained by defeating certain bosses. Downgrading an item in power will decrease it's stats. Once an item has been Adapted it will gain the (Adapted) tag, and you will be unable to Adapt it again. Identifying items If you have any Leftovers You can take them to the town's identifier to have them converted into items. Matoi Ryuko fucked around with this message at 10:01 on Aug 6, 2013 |

Except that you can't really compare the two because they have very different styles of gameplay. Minecraft did not invent Voxels.

This game is absolutely nothing like Minecraft except in general aesthetic. Calling it an evolution of Minecraft is pretty disingenuous, it's in a completely different genre.

It *looks* awesome, but I don't know if that kind of whack whack combat is going to be remotely compelling to me. I'm not on the MC bandwagon either though, so I'm not sure I'm the target demographic here.

I kind of like the look of the combat so far. It looks like combos and the like are in. Hopefully it's fairly fluid and responsive - that can make or break a game.

Is there a building aspect to the game? It's not really the same type of game at all without that. I guess what I really mean is, it's not like Minecraft unless I can put blocky dicks on everything.

Let me see. - You walk around in a voxel world, which seems procedurally generated - You can destroy blocks at will (in the video they use bombs, but there's no reason why there couldn't be mining picks) - There are caves, and monsters - There are ore deposits, which presumably means you can craft stuff Granted, it does seem more oriented to MMO-like gameplay, more combat-oriented, but it's still rather similar. That's not intrinsecally bad, by the way. I like how that dinosaur enemy at the end destroys floor blocks when he rolls around.

Developer blog --> http://wollay.blogspot.com/ Youtube channel with gameplay videos --> http://www.youtube.com/user/WollayFX FAQ: Q: When will Cube World be released? A: I'm currently tuning and fixing everything but I don't know how long it will take and can't estimate a release date. Q: How many people are working on this game? A: I started this as a small hobby project in June 2011. Since May 2012 we are a team of two developers. Q: Can I help with programming, graphics, sound, music etc? A: Thanks, but I want to do everything by myself. Q: Which platforms are supported? A: Currently just Windows PC. Mac support is planned in the future. Q: Which games inspired you? A: - Minecraft: Endless random world made up of blocks - Zelda, Secret of Mana, Landstalker, Monster Hunter and more: Style, gameplay, overall feel - Diablo, World of Warcraft: RPG elements - And many more Q: Which features do you still want to add? A: - Player customization: I'm planning to add player customization whith different faces, hair styles etc. - Classes: I'm planning to add a mage class next and more classes in the future - Different playable races - Quests: A variety of different quests - Items: Different weapons, armor and other items - Building: Different blueprints and materials - Weapon/Armor upgrading system - Different pets Q: Is there multiplayer support? A: Yes, you can do everything in the game cooperatively with friends. I can't say anything about maximum players per server because it still needs to be optimized and tested. Q: Will you add mining/building/crafting? A: - I'm not planning to add mining or digging. - House building is supported. - I will probably add a crafting system that allows you to craft weapons and armor from loot dropped by monsters. Q: How do you create this game? A: I've programmed everything with C++ and DirectX (OpenGL for the first version). For the voxel sprites, I created my own voxel editor. Q: Will the final game still be called "Cube World"? A: Probably not. It's currently just the project name. I'll have to come up with a new name soon. Q: Will it be free? A: No.

I really wish developers wouldn't jam important HUD bits like HP meters into the corners of the screen. Make it big, and put it where I can keep an eye on it! That gripe aside, it looks interesting. I never got into Minecraft because it seemed like it lacked gameplay direction, this looks at least a little better in that regard. EDIT: Okay, in some videos the HUD is much nicer and noticeable. Hopefully it ends up that way. microwave casserole fucked around with this message at 14:38 on Sep 20, 2012 |

I just don't like the MMO-style of combat it looks to be. Like I saw one fifteen minute long video of him killing one monster. It looked horrifically repetitive. He smacks it some with his charge ability, dodges its attacks, then smacks it some more, then dodges its attacks.
