It must be immensely satisfying for a lawyer to complete tear apart a real POS on the record, especially when the POS in question is already found guilty, so there’s no fear of a chudge letting him go.

“ “Big Joe” Ellicott, a former Florida shock jock with potentially key information about the sex trafficking ring involving Rep. Matt Gaetz, has pleaded guilty in federal court, The Daily Beast has learned.

Ellicott is the long-time best friend of corrupt Florida tax official Joel Greenberg, who was Gaetz’s wingman in the underage sex operation, according to several sources with direct knowledge of their relationship. Last year, The Daily Beast revealed that Ellicott knew intimate details about the teenage girl who was paid for sex by the group—and actually texted what essentially amounted to a confession that they were scrambling to try and coverup details about their sex with a 17-year-old from the feds.

Joe Zwick, an attorney for Ellicott, told The Daily Beast that his client has been cooperating in the sex trafficking case against Gaetz. “

I wish Hunter Thompson had stuck around at least long enough to witness the Rise of Trump.

Hunter was pretty broken for a good while and his stuff was hit and miss an awful lot as he got older and sunk deeper into his alcoholism but he was still capable of delivering that 9/11 commentary, the Nixon obituary and some sharp take downs of GWB. Trump would have led Thompson to suicide anyway had Hunter managed to delay it that long but I bet we would have gotten a few good pieces of sharp writing leading up to 09/2016 at least.

He might have delivered a final "gently caress this I'm out good luck fuckers" that was worth reading.

So a couple of days ago Neil Young wrote a letter to Spotify saying that it was irresponsible of them to perpetuate misinformation about Covid through Joe Rogan's podcast, and ended by saying "If you're going to keep him, I want my music off your service, you can have Joe Rogan or me, not both."

Spotify has now started removing Neil Young's music.

Fox has always had a massive audience, with the huge caveat that their audience is also the most geriatric, which advertisers don't like. If their audience shrinks yet skews younger, it might actually benefit them financially.

Butt first, let's

There's also been studies that basically show that Fox News' dominance is owed largely to the fact that their audience watches nothing but Fox News. CNN viewers tend to watch a little MSNBC, a little PBS, a little whatever. Fox News viewers just leave Fox News all day. Its why Fox does weird things like air Christmas specials. They gotta fill those hours.

They're also the default "waiting room" network in the US. Like I hadn't seen actual fox for years until having a doctor's appointment last week.

There was a segment of some talking head going "Biden says votes will be valid if his voting rights bill passes and invalid if it doesn't pass" and then a list of countries most hostile to christians. India had shot up the list and mysteriously they never mentioned the other abrahamic religion practiced by vastly more indians than christianity that Modi's hate is directed towards.

My FIL skips around all the news channels so he can, “get a cross section of all the views”. Last summer we were visiting and I sat down in the same room to read. He clicks over to some fox panel show and the host during his lead in drops a holocaust comment and follows it with, “if you believe it happened”.

My FIL is Jewish (also MD & PhD so usually quite rational) and I ask him, “do you think you are getting any kind good faith discussion here if the lead in is casual holocaust denial?”

He turned it off and didn’t have it on again while I was around but I expect that was just to shut me up. I can’t tell if he’s hate watching it or actually thinks there is some value to their point of view.

I've only got anecdotes to go on but I think this may not be a thing going forward, pretty much every FNC devotee I know is now mixing in some Newsmax and OANN because FNC has done something to piss them off (vaxx mandate for studios, etc) or they just think it's too liberal now. It's basically the default thing to have on in most public spaces like waiting rooms and under Trump at least was mandated to be tuned to in government facilities, but I wonder how that is counted in the ratings

edit - that said it's not like anybody actually stopped watching it so I'm dubious if this ever has any effect on their overall viewership

Wasn't an XO or anything but there were some leaked messages from early on in the admin along the lines of telling department heads (FDA in the case of the leak) to change all monitors/TVs under their control to play FNC. Not sure how widespread it was but it's extremely believable and hopefully I'm not remembering wrong, as all I can find is an article from the UK press. The response appeared to have been "sorry I can't change those" which given the person on the other end was probably Rudy-tier was probably devastatingly effective. Quite possible other departments relented but also maybe they wanted just the FDA for some reason, god only knows with that admin
