Rubbernecker here: this thread has been a giant boon to me the last few days. I've been reading through it and the sheer positivity and amount of cute bird stories and pictures has just been healing. Thank you.

(also, yes, can confirm: I don't normally do nicknames or babytalk but... Apollo, my dog, is constantly floofpoof/buster/doggo/dingdong/you're a good boy you know that? -- I cannot stop myself, and I don't want to.)

Captain Log posted:Today was cage and bird cleaning day. I got a video of Blue saying hi to Serra. My favorite thing about this video is how you let Serra on top of the cage and then five seconds later you're going around the corner to pick her up from the floor. I was kind of expecting her to stay on the cage or near you, but noooo

From reading this thread - I'm back in page 60-70 and use it to make my day way more cheerful - do not let you bird outside, there's an absolutely devastating page where two different goons lose their birds outside, and then a page later LAB's bird dies and I can't take that kind of heartbreak again I clutched my dog's leash pretty tight today because if he gets loose he doesn't like to come back and I can't imagine being without him.

If Hitman 2016 is anything to go by, your bird is a highly trained assassin and should not be allowed near rubber ducks.

Nthing loving migraines, so glad you had one instead of a stroke though. I get painless migraines that come with ocular auras and the first time I got one I was convinced I was going blind. Lots of fun!

After spending a lot of today reading this thread and watching bird videos, then realizing that all of my friends associate me with birds after like a month of linking them birds now (I get pinged in discord whenever they find bird videos RIP), and that it got to the point where my mom said to me "after your dog passes, you are not getting a bird. not while you live here. no. we can do cats again instead." and all that... Could I ask for a bird crazies tag? I'd prefer the transparent one, if possible! e: Should note that part of why I'm bird crazy at the moment is because college came back and stomped on me so lying around with my laptop looking up birds is the most soothing. That and reading outside in the back yard while my dog patrols the bushes. StrixNebulosa fucked around with this message at 03:38 on Sep 26, 2019 |

Disco Salmon posted:wait what? If it helps, the reason my mom is so anti-bird is because of the noise. Which is uh, not something I can get around while I live here. She keeps a bird feeder + bath though, and I was raised to love the outside birds. I even once got a chickadee to land on my hand!

Everyone posted:I'm still weirdly obsessed with ducklings despite the fact that I am completely aware that nothing in my inclinations, temperament, skill set or life schedule is at all congruent with getting a duckling which will then rapidly grow into a duck over a two month time period and then stay in my life for the next 15-20 years. This is me, but with all birds. I would give so much for a conure or cockatiel, but I also know I'd be the worst owner for one - I have enough trouble with just a dog! Which is to say this thread is the worst influence and I love it a lot

Okay, question! Why are Indian Ring Necks considered "difficult" birds? Are they neurotic like female eclectus birds?

Captain Log posted:The excellent parrot shop down the road from me says the majority of IRNs are super nervous and require a very specific type of owner to develop well. My next bird, likely years away, will either be a Quaker or an IRN. They tell me IRNs just tend to be nervous, which then makes them bite prone. Thaaat explains it, thank you for the informative post! God I love birds. They have so much personality.
