Isn't it typical for Ubisoft to wait until a week before release before admitting the PC version is going to be delayed, though?

Yeah, Ubisoft is notorious for last-minute one month delays of the PC version of every game they have released in the past couple years. Expect the PC version out next year.

I loved Far Cry 2, it had a great set of systems that created unique combat situations for every encounter. No other game has given me quite the same feeling as getting a headshot on the last guard in an outpost just as my rifle disintegrates in my hands, or running behind a rock with a jammed gun to pull a bullet out of my leg. If Far Cry 3 just improved on what FC2 did, it would be an instant buy. However the multiplayer trailer they released a while back to show off their new "torture and execute your helpless multiplayer foes" feature really soured me on this game. It is completely gratuitous and distasteful and a little inexplicable given FC2's nuance.

I can't quite tell if this game is wanting to be pulpy and satirical, or shock-value exploitation murderporn that comes off as lowbrow pandering without a shred of good judgment, masquerading as "adult" but in reality just wallowing in trashiness.

I hope it's the former. This game looks like it could be extremely memorable and with a ton of personality, that hopefully doesn't get undermined by adolescent garbage.

Watch the multiplayer preview where they demonstrate post-match torturing and executing the best player on the losing team. Gave me a pretty good idea of what FC3 is all about.

Seriously? That's like judging Assassin's Creed 3 on the basis of its multiplayer component, or Quake 2 on its campaign.

The guy I quoted was asking about the tone and political content of the game, and based on the preview I mentioned it looks like this game will be pretty abhorrent in that area. The fact that that sort of thing shows up in multiplayer, which could just as easily be a competent FPS without the bothersome humiliation aspect, actually makes me more worried about the single player content.
