Surprisingly I wasn't a nerd until I got out of high school. D&D, reading comics, playing video games all came after I went through being cool. For a while I would say "I'm not a geek, I just like geeky things", but eventually just had to embrace my geekiness. Turns out being geeky is much more fun. I did once go on a date with this guy who took me out to eat with his friends and they talked non stop about souped up cars  and then back to his place where we watched some anime movie. I went over a couple days later and he made me watch some anime show with no English subtitles while he cracked up laughing (he spoke no Japanese, just thought the faces were hilarious). To this day I can't stand 99% of anime.
