The game provides an experience of war seen from an entirely new angle. The pace of This War of Mine is imposed by the day and night cycle. During the day snipers outside stop you from leaving your refuge, so you need to focus on maintaining your hideout: crafting, trading and taking care of your survivors. At night, take one of your civilians on a mission to scavenge through a set of unique locations for items that will help you stay alive. Make life-and-death decisions driven by your conscience. Try to protect everybody from your shelter or sacrifice some of them for longer-term survival. During war, there are no good or bad decisions; there is only survival. The sooner you realize that, the better.

gently caress, that post would've worked way better if I still had my Obelix avatar

What I'm really confused by is that as far as I know there has been nothing in particular going on with the series for a while now so this seems completely out of nowhere. Why port a PS2 game (it still pretty much looks like a ps2 game...)? Is there a hidden audience they're tapping into?

Fake edit: ok I looked into it and turns out this is coming because they're actually developing a third game in the illustrious Asterix & Obelix XXL series, and 2 originally never left europe. More power to them I guess!

One Nation, Under God.
Some company bought the rights to the old PS2 Asterix series and put out a remaster as a hype-builder for a brand-new sequel.

That one's a weird Conker-style pop culture parody game, I remember the last boss fighting being a Matrix Reloaded send-up where you fight a zillion Julius Caesars.

I know there are a couple of eshop price comparison sites, where you can see in which region a game is currently cheapest, but are there any sites that show you a game’s price history? Like, the lowest price a game has been etc?

If you're in Australia Compare Games will show the cheapest prices since release as a line graph, as well as a table showing the current price at various retail stores.

German authorities are taking Nintendo to court over their refusal to allow refunds or pre-order cancellations. The pre-order stuff seems to be the crux of it with Nintendo arguing that they don't have to offer refunds or pre-order cancellations because of preloading.

That’s exactly the sort of thing was looking for, thank you. The only slight issue is I’m not in Australia, I probably should have mentioned I’m in the U.K./Europe region. My bad.

I use psprices.com for digital console buys, and I'm in Canada and it's never been wrong with the $CDN listing or price history. The site as a whole is almost as good as steamprices with just a little more clutter in the interface. I presume it does the Pound and Euro as well.

This. The price graph on it is really good too.

Looks like we’re also getting Arcade Archives: Donkey Kong Jr. on the 21st, if this Japanese page is any indication.

It's from Hamster. It would be odd if it didn't.

Look on the bright side.

Cool. I never played the arcade version of it.

These should be the US icons; any downloads from the Japanese eShop that have multi-language support just default to the image corresponding to the region of the primary account on the console, even if that game is not officially out yet.

I think so. At least if you're buying it online which I'm pretty sure you have to.

I thought about buying a code card for the Smash Season Pass instead of buying it on the eshop, and was wondering for that case.

I pulled the old Wii out of the closet, hooked it up, and used my last 1000 Wii points to buy contra rebirth. It's a pretty fun game! Hard like a contra game should be, too.

Between that game and castlevania rebirth, I have a reason to keep the Wii hooked up; something I did not expect.

I traded in my GC after I got my Wii since it's fully compatible with that library and had the component cables readily available at retail.

Too bad that the eject disc sensor/latch is borked as of last year so I have to find a local repair place (even Nintendo said to do this when I called in) but I'm worried they'll erase the storage so I gotta back everything up first. I spent my last point balance on Excitebike World Rally, that Pinball Crush remake, and re-bought Tormena Sanner since the iOS version, like so many of THAT library, will not work anymore nor is available for re-download and probably won't ever again. (And to think I used to believe that powerful tablets/phones with all-digital libraries, bluetooth controllers, and HDMI output cables would make mobile gaming both more premium-AAA and viable as a core gaming platform. Wrong-o, but the Switch ironically enough is fulfilling that very well!)

Eh, I haven't bothered checking out what the price would be to have it fixed. Plus I'm in Canada so chances are when you add in shipping and the exchange rate etc. it could wind up being more than having it repaired. Plus, with used optical drive systems you never know what else it's been through. (Side anecdote: who else remembers the Wii general thread back in the day devolving into a multi-page tangent about smoking when it was revealed that the system's internals were susceptible to malfunctioning via cig smoke?)
