While this video is from 2006, USAF just awarded Boeing a contract last month to explore usage of this platform in the next 5-10 years. I think it's pretty cool and reminds me of something from Command & Conquer.

The CIWS is probably my favorite weapon platform out there. How do you not love a gatling gun that fires over 3,000 rounds a minute

This is part 1 of a 10 part doc about joining the French Foreign Legion. Pretty interesting. All 10 parts are on YT.

It's mostly subtitled, with the exception being one American kid going out for it.

Pretty good doc done in coordination with Vice about the challenges in trying to prepare the ANA for 2014 handover. It paints a pretty grim picture.

This was my dad's ship, the USS America. He served most of his career on there, including Desert Storm/Shield. It's now sunken somewhere off the coast of Virginia, as they decommissioned it and used it for testing.

This is what happened when a Navy S-3 decided it wanted to get intimate with a thunderstorm. Pics via somebody on Facebook.

Not sure of the date these were taken but a crew took off out of NAS Fort Worth, and the crew on apparently their own volition, decided they would fly right through a thunderstorm. They encountered 3 inch hail, severe turbulence, and the tail section was struck by lightning.

Notice one of the sidepods is missing as well, and the plane had to be helped back by ATC because I think the windshield was also cracked significantly.

Hail to the king, baby.

You all need to visit Kennedy Space Center if you haven't yet. They have an original Saturn V on display, and they just opened up an exhibit for the shuttle Atlantis, which is absolutely stunning.

edit: And I know it's not a plane per sé but holy gently caress :flashfap:

This was always another favorite, the X-15, the aircraft that was pretty much the precursor to Project Mercury:

Since it was essentially a rocket with wings, it couldn't take off normally. It was taken up under the wing of a B-52 to an altitude of around 45,000', then released.

Had a top speed of Mach 6.72 (fastest manned aircraft in history), and it flew so high that the aircraft was technically in space and some pilots even saying they experienced weightlessness, and all pilots earned astronaut wings.

I'm pretty sure C-17s are mainly used to haul goods down to Christchurch, New Zealand, and either from there or one central part of Antarctica they use LC-130s to move everything around the continent.
