Hello car audio people. I have a backup camera surround in my car that I had purchased from Ebay/Amazon whatever in 2009. I had someone else install it. It died a year or so ago (just black screen). I'm wondering if there's a recommended backup camera in license plate surround option. Note that I did buy one a few months ago and I did a great job of breaking it when I thought I was being clever. It was one with IR sesnors on it so it has a built in 'blob' on the cable near the camera which converts from 12v to 5v. My requirement is that the size of hole required to run the cable has to be SMALL. Almost everyone I'm finding now has an RCA jack for video and a round barrel that are hard wired to the camera. I do not want this, I want the cable to have some sort of connector that it small. For reference, this is the one I have now, note how the 3rd picture shows a nice clip to run through a small hole: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_18449_BOYO-Vision-VTL300C-Black.html This is an example of one that requires too large of a hole to be cut: http://www.amazon.com/WickedHD-WRC-221-Quality-Viewing-Waterproof/dp/B00YNRK3XA/ http://www.amazon.com/EC170-09-Waterproof-Sensitive-Aluminum-Universal/dp/B00GMC8QXI/ http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-PLCM16BP-License-Waterproof-Distance/dp/B00WR6ZRG2/ (3 links but they all appear to be the same thing). Right now I'm leaning towarsd just re-buying what I originally had, even though the video quality isn't that great and it's an outdated model. Oh to be clear, I don't need a screen or anything, I'm using video input of an AVIC-D3 and it's already wired to go to that input when shifted to reverse, etc.

IOwnCalculus posted:Buy a different camera and lop the connector off? It's only two conductors, not really difficult to reconnect it after you pass the wire through. Well it's more than two, there's at minimum +12v, Gnd, Composite. The ones with IR also have more wires for the other voltage. Kinda tough to cut a 12" wire to 6" or whatever, then strip enough back to re-solder 5 wires. And I just envision poo poo falling apart and shorting out doing it that way. dunno.

I'm looking to put an aftermarket deck in an s2000 this spring. Integrating the steering wheel controls are mandatory, crutchfield is spitting out "PAC SWI-RC" to do the job. Anyone with experience with this and if its decent/provides full functionality? The other option seems to be this, which is a lot more expensive: http://www.modifry.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=18_46 Is there some reason to spring for the more expensive Modrify one? It's not clear to me why they'd make this specialized thing for just one vehicle.

Preferring digital media only receiver but I'd like it to have HD Radio as well as a screen that can properly say words of songs on it when playing via bluetooth. Also have a strong preference for the type of screen that is made up of dots/pixels for better display of text vs the types that are more fixed square letters. No intent to add any additional amps or anything, just its built in amp to power door speakers.

I had primarily been searching on Crutchfield, I don't think any of those showed up there. While I clearly did not list price anywhere in my criteria, the Alpine and Pioneer seem to be about $ double than expected. I thought I may be saving money by getting one that's media only but that doesn't seem to be the case, at least not in those models.

MikeyTsi posted:Your specifications give you pretty limited options. If you step down to a more basic LED display your options open considerably. Seems that way. Perhaps I'll focus more on characters/lines of display instead of blocks vs pixels and accept that it may have CD. So far this seems to be at top of the list I guess: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/CD-Receivers/DEH-X8800BHS Car in storage for a few more months, will wait a bit to see if anything else changes or comes out during that time (edit: this in particular is not yet available: http://www.kenwood.com/usa/car/receiver/kmm-bt518hd/) Most of these advertise 50watts but it looks like that's peak, reality is it's more like 15 in some or 22 in others. Anyone think there's noticable difference on the higher RMS if just using stock speakers? falz fucked around with this message at 18:58 on Feb 19, 2017 |

I've never had one before, almost always Pioneer and Eclipse. Is it just poorly thought out controls or bugs?

Literally every rental has had someone gently caress with the bass/treble/fade/etc. It's also fun to look at the names of paired phones, I only think to rename my phone to something hilarious after I paired, by then I'm too lazy.

Is it an upgraded stock stereo branded as Bose or something? Those do weird poo poo, have low impedences and perhaps even have power running to speakers with mini amps.

Unsure if acceptable here, but I have an old school Rockford Fosgate Punch 200dsm amp from 1993 or so (no xover). I had it recapped about 10 years ago but haven't had it hooked up since then. I'll probably toss it in ebay but if anyone in here is in to this type of thing let me know and I'll toss up a SA mart link.

I'm hoping this is an 80s style suitcase that has no wheels and you have to lug around.

Wait is divx making a comeback or is that name repurposed for the 3rd time?

Ok, that's better than the Circuit City DRM version at least. But still, I thought no one cared about divx the codec for like 10yrs.

Sorry, this is off topic. Is there a similar thread for Home Audio? Actually what I'm looking for is something related to a A/V furniture recommendations (floating / wall hanging, like ikea BESTA). Related to recent discussion- I head a 2000s Maxima with upgraded stereo (Bose?) and it was the hugest pain in the butt to rip out and put in stock stuff. Iirc there was power and an amp at each speaker locally. Seemed dumb.

Research on crutchfield, buy from an eBay seller. There are several with good reps and good prices.

Ground it to the chassis? That's what I did when I dealt with amps in the 90s. Also double check specs on the amp vs your speakers, I'd guess the amp wants a 4ohm load and your speakers are 8ohm. Probably fine for the speakers but I suspect it will barely generate any load on the amp.
