And the mercy seat is awaiting,
And I think my head is burning,
And in a way I'm yearning,
To be done with all this measuring of proof.
An eye for an eye
And a tooth for a tooth,
And anyway I told the truth,
And I'm not afraid to die.

I just started watching Tokyo Vice on HBO. Or Max or whatever. The man on the right is an investigator, on the left is his boss.

That episode also begins with a completely unrelated sleepwalking rapist and includes the NYPDs undoubtedly multi-million dollar anagram generator.

Man, I finally finished the Deuce and that last season is so freaking depressing. At first I was bummed we didn’t get any Larry and his acting career in s3 but considering how it all shakes out maybe that was a silver lining for that character.

If I remember right they had already started with a cheap "just slap it on a 16:9 timeline" no-effort thing for The Wire when David Simon was informed and insisted they go back through and actually put the effort in to try and match up as best to the (deceased?) DOP's vision?

Or maybe that was just a marketing thing to convince people to buy the Blu-Ray? Worked on me if that's the case!

HBO announced the widescreen remaster and David Simon said no, because he felt that having it in 4:3 was part of the show and then when HBO said " well, we're going to do it anyway" David Simon joined up to make sure it was done properly.
The big thing about the wire is that they framed it for 16:9 from the start, even though they were filming in 4:3 because they wanted to be prepared for an eventual switch in later seasons. So that made it a lot easier to do the widescreen remaster.

Finally watched We Own This City. It's excellent.

No lists or recaps this time (basically my only criticism was the Office of Civil Rights scenes, which were largely terrible); I just mainlined it all over the past 48 hours. What an unbelievably demoralizing story.

:hmmyes: I've mentioned it before I think, but the fictional parts have an artiface that really stands out in a show that's otherwise excellent when it sticks to the real story of the GTTF, even when parts of that story are totally goofy (that whole "off the chain" dialogue lmao). The book is absolutely worth picking up if you're interested.

That's the issue with season 5. It has by far the most characters who are paragons of virtue incorruptible and their opponents are universally reprehensible scum of the earth with no redeeming features. It's so black and white in a nuanced world where there are black and white in every faction but boy is there no grey in journalism.

I’m in Baltimore visiting my daughter.

Just had my first conversation with a real born and raised Baltimorean. I only know the accent from this, and We Own this City.

I think I got about half of what he said. And a part of that was on delay, like I had to hear it and then my mind took a moment to translate it.

His accent was just like Bernthal’s in We Own, but he talked quite a bit faster, LOL.
