And it’s not like memory really helps because I haven’t seen these episodes in 10 years. On my 3rd rewatch and up to the gently caress, motherfucker, gently caress me, fucker episode.

Just finished my re-re-rewatch marathon. Bump's last line of the series always kills me. Where he is mumbling/grumbling "letters...numbers..." I think Bump was the most consistently awesome character throughout the show. Hasselblad fucked around with this message at 02:14 on Feb 18, 2018 |

About halfway through S1 of Bosch. It is really weird to see Daniels, even though he is almost the same character (I am waiting for a "the gently caress did I do?" scene) and even more jarring to see Marlow as a good guy. Where's the Bosch thread, dammit?

Basebf555 posted:That may be, but he(and others like him)still helps prop up an incredibly flawed police department, and he's more self aware than a lot of the others. So yea he's just a cog in a machine but it's a pretty horrific machine and he doesn't seem to have much of a problem with that. He's happy to sit there every day reading his porno mags as long as the stats are what the department wants them to be, and the damage to the community that philosophy causes isn't lost on Landsman. He's just stopped caring. Landsman is murder po lice. What philosophy are you speaking of that causes community damage? He doesn’t want the stats at a specific level, he wants them solved as often as possible. Sometimes that means passing over virtually unsolvable cases in order to close reasonable ones, or the red balls. It is triage. In the book I suspect he is the character who allows his detectives to do their jobs in a more hands off approach, as the people in homicide earned their way into the job and are very good at it.

Basebf555 posted:I think your description of his thought process when it comes to the cases is very generous. I wouldn't call it "triage", I'd call it "covering your rear end". His primary concern is that his unit's clearance rate stays above a certain number, and he's willing to look the other way on potential cases if it means one less open case at the end of the year on the stat sheet. Not sure how that is not triage though? Solving what can be solved while putting those with virtually no chance of being solved on the backburner (the evidence and corpses are not going anywhere) is not simply "covering rear end".

That's the thing, the story was simply not at all told. It was a bunch of action scenes cobbled together with neat special effects. It was as flat and shallow as Siccario II.

Jerusalem posted:It's thrown out there a lot, but I do think a story like The Dark Tower really needs to be told in the form of a tv series. Unfortunately that is something only SyFi would do and they would add their gooniness to it. However, Amazon would likely do it justice.

His choice of sidearm (1911) redeems his grooming. That said it is pretty consistently good. Was not crazy about the undercover junky season, but it has enough peripheral stuff going on to help keep it interesting. I would watch a show just following J Edgar, or Crate & Barrel.

There is definitely the element of how little you get for the hard work and bullshit compared to drug dealing, but there is also the humiliation and powerlessness of the job, the lack of money affecting social status, and the chance of being judged by a loving McDonalds manager and being found not good enough. Or consider the McDonalds manager being judged by a random internet poster. I suspect both employees would rather be in a better position. Hey, someone has to supply the mcribs, you know.
