Speaking of other David Simon stuff, anyone in here watch The Plot Against America? I watched it a couple weeks ago and enjoyed it for what it was

Watched it about a month or so ago. Basically catching up on David Simon shows I hadn't seen when Michael K Williams died. Liked it but..

Didn't care for the ending but I enjoyed the rest of it.

Yeah. Wife was convinced I was lying about the last episode being the finale.

Tangentially related to this thread but some of you in this thread recommended Show Me a Hero and I finished it last week, a great miniseries that I can recommend to any Wire fans. :)

Ditto on this. Watched it as a part of catching up on things and enjoyed it quite a bit. Currently have a single episode of Generation Kill left. It's been a weird month of David Simon TV. Mixed in with Rhoda of all things.

Is there any non-torrent means of watching "The Corner" in any sort of decent video quality?

Edit - suppose I mean streaming. Not really looking to buy DVDs in 2021.

Forgive the dumb question, but there were just the two timelines going on in the first episode, right? 20015 and 2017?

Edit - trying to go over actors from the episode (or in upcoming episodes per imdb) that were also in The Wire and my wife has admitted that her memory of The Wire doesn't go that much past "Stringer Bell and Omar"

On the upside, guess who just found a perfect excuse to do another run through The Wire?

Fake edit : she's remembering more now, but when I just sent her a picture of Robert Chew she said "I've never seen that man in my life."

Didn't he also kill Bodie? I haven't watched Season 4 in a while

Yes. He has a few scenes. Suggested a west coast drive by to Snoop as well.

And I'm garbage at recognizing the minor characters but I think he's the "But that's what you said to me" guy.

Someone in the We Own This City thread pointed out that the rapper with the lyrics about Hersl was not only a real song but the rapper played himself in that episode.

Seeing that made me wonder something. (Who Young Leek be, I guess.)

I have no idea why I was surprised that he's real as well.

Don't think this was mentioned, but The Wire came up in a recent Simpsons episode.

Hard to find a proper clip online, but there's this.

You can see the girl's next line in the subtitles right before it ends. Skinner responds "That season was slow, and also: This. Is. War."

Beepers were a throw back thing even then, but remember payphones? When was the last time you even saw one of those?

Maybe 6-7 years ago there was a dive bar near me that still had a non operational payphone in the corner.

You ever want to feel old as hell - stand around watching as 3 guys that look to be 30 or so bust out laughing when one of them picks up the receiver and in the mockingest voice you've ever heard says "Hello, operator? Yes, I'd like to make a **collect** call..."

So this is weird

Isiah Whitlock Jr., who plays Clay Davis, plays a DEA in Spike Lee's 25th Hour and does a full on "sheeeee-iiiiit" when he busts Ed Norton

My wife and I have been watching season two of Your Honor, and drat it - Whitlock is in it and he has so many opportunities to drop an amazing SHIIIIIIIIIIIITTTT into the scenes but just won't do it.

Forgive the tangential at best post please...

Wife and I just got new cats last night. Including this little guy that my wife started to jokingly suggest "We could call him Omar...." Whoops. She should have known I would latch onto that instantly and there was no defense to my "Well you can 'name'' him whatever you want, but I'm calling him Omar now" He's even the runt of his litter. I never thought "But Omar's last name is "Little!"" would come up in naming a cat, but it was another nail in the he's Omar now coffin.

His "scar" is backwards, but I won't hold it against him.

The first time my wife and I tried to watch The Wire we got through the first episode and just weren't up for it. I had read way too much about the show to give up on it, but we were just so drat confused about what was going on and who was who.

Ended up stopping and since she hadn't seen it at the time - we binged through the first four seasons of Dexter instead. (I still think the Lithgow season is great, drat it.)

Restarted The Wire after that and accepted that we might not know WTF for a few episodes. Knowing that going in made a world of difference. Enjoyed the Hell out of it, of course.

i dont think anyone disagrees the Lithgow season was great, I think most people take the view the Lithgow season is the exact point Dexter ended, also Buffy after season 5

(too much overthinking here, and i dont post in Dexter threads but putting it out there now - the only problem with the Lithgow season was there was nowhere to go from there in raising the stakes, and so they instead had to make the next villains completely repellent in every way which made it feel more like torture porn)

Dexter and Lost are two shows that I think were really great for exactly half their runs. And then the drop off is so severe it makes me reflexively have to defend watching the first good half.

Dexter absolutely could/should have ended after the Lithgow season, and Lost should have ended with "We have to go back!"

The owner of the place I work was in today. He's Irish. He's really into being Irish. He's in a band that plays Irish music. I saw him in the kitchen and offered my condolences, assuming he was a bit bummed.

And that's how I had a really poo poo awkward conversation with my boss as he had somehow been there all day but not online and hadn't seen the news.
