Oh wow, that banner image is awesome and super impressive. I hope those characters are actually representative of the games we will be seeing here, because there are some gems there.

I'm looking forward to The Guardian Legend, that game is stupid hard and I remember getting stuck at some 'plot point' as a kid and never getting past it. I'll be doing Startropics, should have the first chapter up around tuesday. It's not nearly as hard as some of the games in this thread early on but it pulls a lot of cheap deaths on the player throughout the game.

You start wall-crawling or clinging on the ceiling whenever you push the jump button. It's not intuitive at first, but as you play the game more and more and play the harder stages of the game, you will get to understand why the designers decided to do this. It ultimately gives you more flexibility in how you approach certain sections.

As for character movement, it's all handled really well. Your character doesn't slip around, you can alter the direction of your jump whenever you want and the game's responsive. The only tricky thing with the controls comes from stuff like doing the diagonal kick and being able to only punch once when you're in the air.

I remember maybe three things about this game: the weird attacking controls, the bullshit final level, and the music. The music was pretty good :)

The spaces between dimensions kinda freaked me out, they were just weird formless tie-dye worlds where bloated mutant frogs fell from the sky until you harvested enough of their corpses to teleport somewhere less theoretical.

When I saw this I got all excited because we got this game when we were young and we never beat the first dungeon. I never went back to it, and so I just remember being super hard. After watching that video, I can't help but feel like 5 year old me may have been retarded.

I know exactly what you mean. As a semi-literate three year old I got stuck at chapter 4 for what felt like forever. Most of you will know why. (I had the instruction booklet)

clearly that was just the game teaching you that you lose items on death, as well as that whole greed thing...

... which is what I would say if I hadn't already been told this game if full of bullshit like that.

I wouldn't say it's full of insta death rooms you can't avoid, more like a lot of things will kill you the first time because you didn't have prior knowledge of what was in the next room. There is one more room like the one in ch1 and its just as unfair.

Also that's a cool trick with the c serpent, I had no idea you could do that. I don't think it would work on any other boss since they all have locked doors.

Spaced is probably the best example of games on TV I can recall, largely because Simon Pegg and the rest of the cast pretty much were just playing PS1 on set. The problems with sound probably boil down to 2 thing: The foley crew (or rest of the staff on the show) not having played these new fangled vid-ee-oh games so just using the stock sounds they're used to for them, and copyright, you'd probably have to pay Activision for that actual soundtrack from Black Ops to be on your show, and it's easier and cheaper to not bother.

Couple that with actors who've never used a controller before, and you get what we normally see.

If you say to Baboo that you don't understand the clue, he tells you to look at the instruction manual--of course this also eluded me as a kid for a while, maybe I didn't understand those two words yet. It was so weird realizing what the message meant, I'll never forget the day I woke up and just 'got it.'

Already recorded the next episode, need to do commentary but it should be up soon. It's a really fun level with a lot of almost dick moves, one of my favorites in the game.

I know, if I had only shown my parents that phrase that tells you to wet the letter on the instruction booklet I would've gotten past ch4 way earlier. I also used game genie quite a bit when I would get too stuck, so I probably beat the game when I was 4-5 and then went back and did it legitimately. I did that with a lot of games as a kid, especially the megamans :v:

\/ Seriously feels like you should be finding gold at the end of this dungeon. What the hell Capt Bell.

The Adventures of Tintin is a very popular belgian comic book created by famous comic writer and artist Hergé. As with everything popular, capitalism has deviated it into every possible media imaginable, cartoons, toys movies and, more importantly, a couple of videos games which I had the pleasure of playing when I was a kid.

These video games, made by the now pretty dead studio Infogrames, are difficult for all the wrong reasons. The level design is confusing and full of arbitrary household objects that pop out of nowhere to kill you, Tintin doesn't handle very well and his hitbox is weirdly shaped, and also loving TIME LIMITS.

Yet, despite all these flaws, I still have fond nostalgic memories of this game... Probably some kind of Stockholm Syndrome born from having nothing else to play back then.

Anyway, join me and Psychedelic Eyeball as we go through Hergé's Magnum Opus in bullshit video game form.

I'm actually really glad I died where I did in retrospect, just to show off how the game treats people who can't beat each level in one life. The final level isn't as bad as 7-1 in my opinion, but holy poo poo does it have some incredible dick moves.

Forgot to ask--since I plan on doing Startropics 2 regardless, would you guys/Dectilon want to see it in this thread? Or should I make a seperate one? The action is considerably harder due to some new freedom of movement that breaks the game, and it definitely gets hard from chapter 4 onward.

No unfortunately... Mike gets a strange variety of new weapons in the sequel but no Yo-yos. We start off with infinite throwing axes and go from there. :black101:

The game is also silly as hell and I will very likely bring in a co-commentator or two to make fun of said silliness. The game has a pretty good difficulty curve, it's a lot more steady than ST1 that's for sure, but it starts kinda tricky and stays that way throughout. It's hard but in a less dick kind of way.

thevoiceofdog

As a kid that room confused the poo poo out of me. I figured I was just screwing up the timing for jumping over the death disks rather than realizing the game changed the basic rules of the game for this one room. Also you always want to stand on the top hatch because the bottom one opens first--this way you get a warning when the top one is about to open. The whole thing itself isn't too hard if you know what you're doing, but there's no one to tell you about the changes the first time you walk in, so....
